Pin turns on MPU driver board flashes 8 times like it should.
All fuses have been checked.
display shows high school and then all zeroes.
register 32 set to 65 for free play.
Start button engaged nothing happens.
New MPU battery measures 4.1V

This is my first 6803.
Any other ideas of what else to look for?

There should be 9 flashes on a 6803. Check the manual for what the 9th flash is supposed to be. Mine says something about a phase A signal to the control board, but I have no idea what that means.

The number of flashes is different for different games. If you're seeing displays, it has booted. Try testing the start button via the switch tests.

Finished doing switch test, had 3 stuck switches cut capacitor cleared switch error.
Found this on line:
4.9 Coins Register But Don't Credit Up

This is commonly seen on VPinMAME emulation, but applies to real life as well.
Coins drop OK, switch is good, game makes noise, but it remains on "Credits 0" and doesn't credit up.
Symptom is corrupted/blank NVRAM.
To fix, open coin door (make sure coin door switch is working, otherwise the keypad won't work), then do these steps:
Hit "Test", to enter operator mode.
Hit "A" until "Feature Options" is displayed.
Hit Enter.
It will say "Reset Factory Is".
Hit 6, then 5, then Enter.
Hit "Game" to return to attract mode. You'll know it worked because it will take longer than usual to reach attract mode, and the display will flicker slightly as the computer clears the memory (this is normal).
Intuitive and easy to remember, right? And Bally had the nerve to advertise "manual-free testing"....

Not able to get A on keypad to work. Will take it apart tomorrow see if I can get it to engage.

Update, performed all lamp, display, coil, switch test everything looks good.
Have a new keypad for programming registers.
Game coins up hearing sound when engaging coin door switches. Don't see them registering on credit display. Tried setting on free play by programming register 32 to 65 based on manual.

What am I missing with programming this for free play?
The previous steps I had don't work, due to letter A doesn't do anything.

I am at a loss,ideas?

Started thinking, I put in a new 6803, installed old prom, but didn't ck jumpers.went back ck jumpers and made sure 2,4,6,9,10 where in..
Same issue must be programming thing.
