Stern, 2022Has anyone tried swapping out the default USB 2.4GHz dongle with the Stern Insider Connected kit for an 802.11ac dongle? I would love to take advantage of the faster speeds with 5GHz especially for updates.
I'm guessing the underlying OS running the system is some hacked Linux distribution so obviously I want to make sure I get a dongle that has the drivers/kernel modules already present. Any thoughts?
From having wifi, most dongle sold today support both. I’m guessing stern has 5ghz disabled. 2.4 is longer range and “more compatible”. At least it isn’t like some manufactures that limit to 802.11b ufff

I suspect stuartkirk is right that there will be a limitation of what drivers Stern has included, thus limiting USB to WiFi adapters. Possibly even to a single chipset.
Edit: D'oh, I see stuartkirk was the OP of that thread too. Oh well, leaving for reference in case someone stumbles on this thread first.
