Hi, I could use some help on a Gottlieb Strange World. The "500 or 5000 when lit" scores 4500 and 5000 when lit across the board. Otherwise everything works perfect. I just ordered schematics from PBR. Any ideas?

Quoted from Yoski:

Hi, I could use some help on a Gottlieb Strange World. The "500 or 5000 when lit" scores 4500 and 5000 when lit across the board.

When it scores 4500, do the 100s and 1000s digits roll together?

It could be that there's a make/break (MB) switch out of adjustment in one of the relays. A MB switch has three leaves. When it's working correctly the middle leaf moves back and forth between the outer leaves making contact with one or the other, but not both. In your game the middle leaf could be receiving 5 pulses from the score motor (likely position 1A) and sending them to either the 100s or the 1000s relay which would be in circuit with the outer leaves. The MB switch could be on the "5000 when lit" relay.

If the MB switch doesn't reliably disconnect from the leaf connected to the 1000 point relay circuit that might explain your problem. I can't think of why you'd always get 4500 and not 5500, but that would be one place to look. You can identify the "5000 when lit relay" by lifting the playfield, doing whatever needs to be done to light the "5000 when lit" bulb and seeing which relay trips. Then have a close look at the MB switch(es) on it.

Also, eliminate the carry-over from 100s to 1000s as a candidate. Activate the L and M relays manually and watch the scores, making sure you get single 1000s or 100s and clean carry-overs only when 900 is showing and you activate M.

I agree with MarkG that 5500 is a lot easier to produce by malfunction than 4500. Check your math!

Yes, the 100s and 1000s move together. The only MB switch I found so far was on the start relay. The 5000 and 1000 relay don't have a MB switch.
The score is definitely 4500, no mistake there.
When I start a new game and manually hit any of the "500 or 5000" switches the game puts up a score of 4500. I'll have a look at L and M.

The reset bank with its 12 relays is full of MB switches. Green 1,2,3,4, Yellow 1,2,3,4 White 1,2,3,4 so 3x4 = 12 relays. For the 5000 to light up you are supposed to get all three 1s to light the 5000 scores for 1s and similarly for the other numbers. There is a mess of wires connecting all these relays. I carefully checked to make sure non are touching each other. Still no success.
Another problem I discovered, the pop bumper scores 1100 most of the time instead of 100. It goes like this:
1100
2200
...
9900
10000 (now only 100)
10100 (again only 100)
11200 (now 1100 again)
...
18900
19000 (now only 100)
19100 (again only 100)
20200 (back to 1100)
...

Manually activating the 100 relay in the back usually triggers the 1000 when it shouldn't.

Problem solved, the 100s score reel had a bad contact that messed up the carry to the 1000. Thanks for your help!
