article is kind of weird ... half of their supposed "most innovative" games are just crappy white elephant novelty pins. Hercules? Orbitor 1? really?
Even some of the games on that list that i like such as Apollo 13, Safecracker, NBA Fastbreak, Pinball Circus, and Joust are really dead ends from an innovation standpoint. i mean i like them, but none of their "innovations" ever led anywhere. you don't see any other games with 13 ball multiballs, linked multiplayer, etc.
to me, an innovation is something that changes an industry -- Space Shuttle added toys to the playfield. Firepower kickstarted the solid-state multiball era. WOZ was the first game with an LCD screen, which has now become the standard. that kind of thing.
A novelty that never gets repeated doesn't really seem like innovation to me. am i off base?
