4 Square Help - 1000 reel not moving...

Sold my 4 Square to a couple who do not know much about pinball. They live about 6 hours away and when they got home, the 1000th reel is not rolling when it needs to.

Nothing is blocking it, so I'm guessing something is not registering to tell it to move. Any ideas you guys have that I can pass along would be fantastic.

I've already had them check to see if any wires came loose and had them check the leaf switch connection, but not being there it is hard to tell them what to look for.

Does it not move when scoring, or does it also not move during reset? (Would need for it to be on something other than 0 to confirm that.)

If it doesn't move for either reset or scoring, then the coil on the reel would be suspect (more likely a wire on the coil).

If reset works, but scoring doesn't, then the coil is OK.

But I'm guessing that on 4 Square, there's no 1000pt relay, which means that it only moves when the 100's rolls over, via the 9th position switch on the 100s reel (and a switch on the 100pt relay). So the other thing to check would be the 9th position switch on the 100's relay, to make sure the wire didn't come off, and to make sure the switch is closing when the reel is on 9.

I'll pass this along to them. They said when it gets to 0990 it goes back to 0000 instead of 1000. It was working just fine when they played it at my place before they drove off with it and it worked just fine the 6 years I had the game. Thank you!!!

Also reels can get stuck halfway through the advance, so if they manually advance the reel, it may let it catch properly

Then I'd check the 9th pos. switch on the 100s reel.

OK...the coil is fine. Had them move the 1000 reel to 2 and start a new game. It reset just fine. I'll have them check the 9th position switch but it is hard explaining what that is to them. This is their first pinball machine. Thank you guys with your input so far!

It would be worth confirming whether 4 Square has a 1000pt relay or not though. If it did, it would likely be the K relay (typically), and a contact there would be a suspect as well.
