Rick (PPS) made an appearance in the white water foil topper thread this week. Came to some sort of an agreement with maker.
My thoughts on this if wondering the 3D translite was pushed out the door because of Mirco and CPR. Many playfields being made and tons of new Mirrored back glasses being made.
Just wondering if you guys were pushed out by a higher bidder?

That actually makes a lot of sense. Anyone buying a 3D translite is effectively a lost sale for a translite to backglass conversion. I actually wouldn’t mind having options, though. Especially the option to purchase them all.

#753 4 years ago

If so, that further solidifies rick as d substituted for the r.

I’m sure as long as he gets paid he doesn’t care if you buy a 3D translite or a mirrored backglass.

Agreed!!
This project needs to see the light of day again.
I have 4 3D translights, and 4 CPR Mirrored back glasses.
Why cant both companys make both titles?

Because Rick is involved?

just ask Mario why there will no more 3D translites

he did all the work and design

he will tell you the rick story

At this point you can share the story.

Was monster bash ever made or considered?

No licensed titles have been done. A long time ago I was told that since a translite can be used not just in a pinball but as a poster the licensing cost would be that of a poster and would be way too much to amortize on a relatively small number of 3D translites. So I don't expect any licensed titles to be done.

All ... additional 3D titles will be coming ... not sure exactly when ... after a break for awhile we are back into getting a few more done ... there's not really any backstory on these ... PPS have all 8 titles in stock and available.

Also, as for 3rd party licenses, the issue is not what was just stated, it's just the costs and overhead of dealing with a major licensor (studio) that makes them less interesting ... they don't really care where a translite goes ... licensors don't just license one item, they have a upfront fee which is usually in the $5K-$25K range and so long as they would be pinball (vs coffee cups or t-shirts) items in fact I'm sure they would prefer that more are sold which generate more royalties for them.

Stay Tuned ...

Hi Guys,

Just got a bit of an issue trying to install my MM 3D translite and hoping for some advise....

I just tried to install my MM 3d translite and the trim just doesn't fit. It was tight enough before but with the slightly extra thickness of the 3d translite it just doesn't fit. Is there a different plastic trim for WPC95 games with the translite box to the normal translite set up on earlier games? If so, maybe that's my problem?

Thanks for any feedback.

#764 3 years ago

Check if the 3D translite is the same size as your original. If the 3D one is bigger it might not be sitting in the recess of the lamp panel correctly.

Great to hear that there might be a future for more of these, the one that I would most like to see would be Creature for obvious reasons, I realize it is licensed, but maybe it would be worth it, I would think it would be an automatic best seller!!

It is slightly larger and does overlap the recess of the lamp panel slightly. I'm reluctant to trim though. Curious to see how others have managed this.

It’s been a while, but I think on my AFM remake I ended up leaving off the bottom trim strip and it barely got in there. Took forever. I’v only had to get in backbox once since which is good. They are much thicker than regular translite

Thanks for your feedback. Just to clarify, you trimmed the bottom of the translite?

No, just leaving off the black trim piece on bottom edge got it in there

Shouldn't need to trim anything i don't think but perhaps i have a different lift channel plastic on my Fish Tales. It was a tight'ish fit but it went on without any damage nor too much hassles.

When I purchased a 3D translite for ToM from PPS I also purchased the optional set of mounting plastics just in case my 20 year old originals were now brittle and split when I tried to insert the thicker 3D translite. It was a squeeze, but I had no problems with the install. So I now have a spare set (which is fine because I like having spare parts).

Ah okay now I know what you mean. I might have to just do this as well.

For the FT and TOM 3D translites; they go on fine as those games don't have the light box set up of the WPC95 games. I have the 3D translites on my FT and WH2O and they were okay to install but not on my MM.

The thing fits so tight there’s no worry of it sliding out. I suppose you should be careful if you set it down on that edge for service but otherwise you can’t tell it’s not on

I just can't get the trim on my MM light box with the 3D translite!!! It's killing me! I can't even get the sides or top on correctly. I have cracked and snapped a few trim pieces now and even melted one with a heat gun trying to soften it to get it to fit.
I'm sure lots of people have installed these on WPC95 games. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please I'm begging now

Did you order trim package with the 3D translite when you got it at PPS?
I think they are a bigger trim. Not the 1/8th inch, but 3/16th inch.

#776 3 years ago

No I didn't order the trim with it.

So there's two sizes of plastic trim! Okay I'll see who sells it then.

Thanks very much!

#777 3 years ago

If it is larger than your original translite and not sitting in the recess of the lamp panel then even with the correct trim you will probably have trouble fitting it. You might just have to trim it to the same size as your original translite.

There's actually 3 sizes of trims. Backglass that is glass can be 1/4 inch, you dont want that one.

I ordered their trim with the translite and still had issues

Any chance we can see some in-progress work on the next title(s)?

I'd be nice... but I wouldn't be surprise if @pinball-dreams and @mayuh are "done" wasting their time trying to come up with new products. Given how rick treated them.

But I'll be happy to be wrong.

given the arrangement that mayuh had with rick, it would be interesting to know what happened that left him in a lurch with a couple thousand lbs of raw materials and no holographic licensing stickers to produce a finished product and sell them

I saw a 3D translite on ToM the other day. It looked FANTASTIC! The one I'd previously seen on WH20 was pretty blurry.

PPS is there any chance of an AFM 3D back glass for Arcade1up machines? It’s the same image, just smaller.

The problem is the 3D Translites have been stagnant for awhile.
The team making these in Germany moved on and don't make these anymore.

Looking for a whitewater 3d translite. PM if anyone has one they're willing to sell/trade.
