I want to share a mod a have been working on for quite some time now, its finally at a point where I’m happy with the result.

3D slingshots hands for Terminator 2

The mod consists of 2 resin printed hands placed on acrylic to replace the standard 2D acrylic version. The hands are painted with super high gloss chrome paint. Included are also alu standoffs to replace the normal black plastic standoffs.

Price would be 185€ (euro) (about 200$) including shipping globally with tracking.

I would like to know if there would be any T2 owners who would be interested in these 3D hands for their machine? It would take 2-3 weeks to create some additional sets.

What about getting balls trapped on top of the hand. Have you played many games with these installed?
What about damage from ball hits?
I’m still interested.

#11 5 months ago

I'd be down! Would also be curious to hear your answer to the above question regarding testing and potential ball traps too.

I have had my first version installed for like 5 months and played around 150-200 games. Haven’t had any issues with ball traps or the hand getting hit with airballs. I don’t get any airballs which hit in these areas. But I have to say if it would happen it would be possible to act as a ball trap since the can stay up there. A possible upgrade could be to make acrylic cutout a little smaller so the ball won’t be able to rest there. See pictures of possible ball trap locations, but as said never been happening for me.

Regarding direct impact with the ball could damage the model. It is thin in some places, but it will be printed with though resin to make it as impact resistant as possible. I had not experienced any direct ball hits.

I have updated the layout of the acrylic plastic cutout to ensure that if you would have airballs in the slingshot area there shouldn’t be any place on the acrylic cutout where the ball is able to rest. On the hand itself it shouldn’t be possible either as they are too close to the glass for the ball to be able to lay there. The new design is the paper cutout.

The original design of the acrylic was to mirror the original version as close as possible with only one enhancement to make room to be able to unscrew both sling shots bolt easier. The top one is always a pain on the original version because it’s hidden under the plastic itself.

I must point out even with the old version I never had any issues with ball traps, but the new design should improve it if it was to happen. Don’t mind the rough cut on the acrylic in the pictures. These are from the first version which was hand cut and not the version where it is CNC'ed. Also the color is not the same as in the final version.

Due to Easter holidays getting materials is taking a bit longer, so I would estimate the first sets can be ready in 3 weeks from now.

Just installed @sehested’s 3D hands and I gotta say I’m loving the look these give to this area of the game! I’ve always loved the design of the artwork in this area and appreciate the added dimension these give to the space. Install was straight forward and the build quality seems well done too, extremely intricate design work. Shipping was fast as well considering the overseas factor! Just wanted to give some kudos to another hobbyist working to make these awesome machines even cooler!

Dayum! Mods like these will push a pinhead to purchase a T2 pin just for the mod itself.

Good job sir!

BTW, you don't work for Skyline by any chance do you?

#20 4 months ago

They look absolutely amazing; curious have you tried applying duraluminium or Alclad w/ 2K clear?

Thank you no I quite my job at skynet to ensure the world wouldn’t be taken over by terminators. So now I only make them in mini size, then they won’t be a thread to us humans!

I have not tried those 2 brands, but tried a couple of others. I have not seen those brands in Denmark but if I find them anywhere I would buy them and try. My absolute favorite so far is the AK Interactive Super Crome https://ak-interactive.com/product/superchrome/
It is quite shiny and reflective but it is really hard to take good pictures of have it looks in real life.
