I always like these threads. It might be nice if the first post could be an index of posts with stl's or if people could use a specific tag when posting stl files, something like :stlfiles:, so that you can easily search the thread to find things. Some of the other threads have become long and tough to search.

Here's a few :stlfiles:

How does CFTBL mount? I just did these over the weekend for my NGG. Haven't installed them yet but the sizing looks good.

Weld-on #4 or #16 will bond it like it's one piece. #4 is water thin so you will need some sort of applicator but it wicks into cracks. #16 is probably about the consistency of Testors cement.

Those slots look pretty thin and with the directional nature of led lights you will almost need one behind each slot to get light through. If you point your light directly behind one letter does it look good? Maybe a panel of 12v or 5v led strips would work. Or glue fiber optic cables into the slots and run them back to your light sources.

What I thought would be neat to do (and I don't have the skill set), is to make the speaker grill look like he's busting out of it (i.e. the pentagon shapes are damaged and facing outward - like breaking thru a fence).

I think you can do it with some practice. If you make the base grill stl you can use one of the sculpting programs to make the damaged hole, https://register.strata.com/sculpt3d/index.html is a free online one. I'm not very good at using the sculpting tool but it's fun to play with.

Excellent! This is exactly what I was looking for (and faster computer)!
Is this some sort of an automatic function? Or tedious?

It's not automatic but it wasn't too tedious. Strata acts like your model is made of clay and lets you manipulate it in an organic way. The only two tools that I used to curl the pie slices were move and twist. It's kind of fun to just play with since it's so different from modeling with parameter based cad programs.

How do you extract the .stl files out of the .thing file?

Change the extension to .zip and use any unzipping program.

If you scale it by 2540% ( 25.4 mm in an inch ) it will convert it. The model comes out to be 70.612mm tall by 19.558mm wide which seems like a plausible size.

Supports! Thank you - that’s what I need to study up on.
I’m using Cura as my slicer.
I tried printing the first one as pictured but ended up with quite a bit of filament in the void area under the prongs.
[quoted image]

This is what mine is usually set to if you need some starting values. Make sure your Support Placement value is set to "Everywhere" and not "Touching build plate" or it won't generate supports inside the model.

I upgraded my computer months ago and forgot to save my slicer settings. It's been so long since I set it up I have no idea what I did. I have an Ender 3 with a bunch of mods including a new mobo and BL Touch. The printer has been sitting idle for months because I don't want to go through all the hassle of tuning the slicer again. Is there a way to extract my settings if I had the sliced file?

Under Preferences | Profiles you can import an old gcode file and it will extract the slicer settings to a new custom profile.

3D printing ... getting more intriguing.
Can anyone print the trigger button for the Demolition Man handles?
Marco is out of stock but the description says that it exists.
Thanks

It's available here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4213398
I printed one to see how it comes out. Send me a pm and I can get you a set.

I just tried to log into thingiverse and got a message that my account is locked for moderation. Has anyone else ever gotten this? Who did you have to contact? I've never received any emails from them and all of my designs are still up so I'm not sure what they are moderating.

I just tried to log in and got the same error. I haven't posted anything in months, so hopefully this is just a bug on their side...

That's kind of what I'm thinking, thanks for the reply.

#885 2 years ago

I'm all good as well. I've seen plenty of errors with that site but usually they are the garden variety 404/timeout, not the kiss your account goodbye type.

Sorry for everyone who saw the new post count so here's something pinball and 3d printing related:
Soulrider911 did a great mini model of a pin cabinet and I modified the base to hold my keys with the playfield as a keychain.

Suddenly having some weird lifting issues on my Prusa. Any suggestions? I do not print using an enclosure (that may need to change)

Did your heater just start running for the season causing a draft? I had that happen and an enclosure fixed it. Check that your build surface hasn't worn smooth, I'm not sure if prusa's have that issue but my buildtak surface eventually wore out and needed a new one.

Anyone have a file for a clear nut for stern flipper buttons? I see one on thingiverse for a gottlieb, but not sure it will work. The metal one blocks too much light for lighted flipper buttons.

I have one here that I've used with stern buttons from pinball life: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3715237/files. All the flipper buttons use the same nut.

That looks good. Does it have to glue at all, can't it just move up and down with the star insert?

I just might use OctoPrint as an excuse to get a new Pi 4. I repurposed my old Pi 2 to track aircraft on FightRadar 24 since it was getting long in the tooth.

You can run Octoprint on an old android phone. I put it on my old Samsung s6 and it works fine for basic functionality. I could start prints and use the camera to keep an eye things but I haven't tried any of the plugins.

I'll be stepping into new 3D printing territory with my new photon mono x 6K resin printer! [quoted image][quoted image]

The wash and cure is amazing but get ready to stock up on IPA. I only washed prints from my Saturn by hand for a week before mine showed up and I think I would have quit resin if I had to continue that. The new 6k and 8k printers look very interesting, I'd like to see how much finer the detail can go over the Saturn's 4k screen. Good luck with it.

These flipper buttons were my latest resin project, I printed the center and then added the colors by hand.

Nice! How's the feel of the resin buttons versus typical plastic?

They feel pretty much the same. I printed a jig so I could sand in the standard concave profile. They get wet sanded from 360-2000 grit and then polished with novus 2 & 1. By the end its smooth and you can't feel the color transitions or any layer lines.

Question for the experienced: what is the process to have something show up in the thingiverse searches and viewable by all? I have added a new bracket for MM/Hobbit beasts but my links aren’t working for others. Same issue in tinkercad where I designed it. Thanks in advance!

On the page where you edit the description there is a "Publish Thing" button at the top next to Save. It should be available after that but it can take a few hours/days for their search to index and find new items. You should be able to send people the direct url link right away.

Quoted from Sleal16:

I combined both the elevated front of mattosborn with the mounting of joetechbob in fusion 360. My ender 3's hotend is busted so resin printed to test it out. I need to make some adjustments to the layer cure time as it created a weird misalignment and will also slightly shrink the perimeter of the raised area as its too tight to install it flush, less so after painting it.
Overall came out fantastic! Will probably make the final version for my game in resin. thanks guys for providing those files. If its cool with them and if anyone wants the updated combined model with the extra adjustments, I can provide provide that model
[quoted image][quoted image]

That looks good. What orientation did you print that in? Was it 45° with the bottom edge down? Large flat surfaces always cause me trouble in resin.

Quoted from NightTrain:

That looks amazing. What does a decent resin 3d printer cost?

$250-350 for the smaller build volume ones. $550-1500 for the larger build volume ones. And I personally would budget $150-250 for a wash and cure setup depending on which size you buy. The post processing is the worst part otherwise. Most of these printers are running on the same chitubox hardware.

Quoted from Ashram56:

Has anyone experimented with resin printing and is knowledgeable about various resin types ?
I have an Elegoo Mars printer, and wanted to print some models (courtesy of Pinworld, many thanks to them for posting their model on Thingiverse) that would benefit of being translucent. I can print it using a regular FDM printer, white PLA, and I know it will work, however I'm not a big fan of the layer effect induced by FDM printing for models that will be on the playfield.
I therefore kind of wonder if I can replicate the same behaviour as white PLA with regards to translucency using white resin, and if so which one ? I have grey ABS like resin, which is not suited, but before going out a buying a bottle of resin, I would welcome some feedbacks
Cheers

Light will pass through assuming the wall thickness isn't too much, I don't know that a solid white model would work. Here's a post I had on hand with a wall thickness of 2.5mm. It's printed in iForm 182 ABS-Like resin.

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Ok, clearly I under-ordered. I'll look into ethanol - isopropyl in large quantities is pretty expensive.

32oz bottles of 91% are currently $2.58 each at walmart, that's about $10 a gallon.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-91-Isopropyl-Alcohol-Antiseptic-32-fl-oz/276040459

This is what I was buying for a while because I could never get more than 2 32oz bottles in store and visiting 10 stores is a pain.

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Aah, thanks - I was looking at 99% which is way more. Still taking in all the data here...

I haven't seen a noticeable difference in cleaning between 91% and 99%. The 70% took longer to remove the extra resin and things always still felt tacky.

My friend printed this from Thingiverse. Can this be modified to make it a little taller? That’s not the original switch or wire lugs so it’s really too tight the way it is. It pinches the wires.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Yes. The program that your friend used to slice the file will have a scale option. You can scale the X direction to be taller. There may be a checkbox for "Uniform Scaling" that you will have to turn off so that you can change just the X size.

I got tired of the flipper fade on my LOTR. Tried the high strength coils but didn't like them so I put back in the stock coils and made a fan mount that cools the coil with a 12V fan.

Did you need longer mounting screws for this or did you use the stock ones?

Quoted from Desmodromic:

Hexes printed on their site actually print reasonably well in my experience. I made a bunch of different trays for our kitchen drawers with hexes on all sides and they look great. The top angles are easy and then there's only a short bridge at the top of each hex, which a good printer prints no problem.

I thought about printing the hex one but my cr10 is kind of s**t at bridges. It's lived a good 5 years but it's getting to be time for a new printer. I was thinking about a prusa xl but all these bambu pics have me heavily leaning that way. I have until my birthday in september to watch how everyone likes them long term.
