Quoted from DugFreez:

Otherwise I will still have beef with darscot posting "that you think this is your big idea is laughable."

Darscot is right. It's not a big idea. It's a simple shape, a plastic washer. Took me about 30 minutes to create a design for WPC.
It's not an engineering masterpiece nor an art, therefore doesn't matter who came up with this first.

Quoted from DugFreez:

The first acrylic designs we made for the light kits were Spider-Man (as my friend's were taking their Spider-Man to Expo) Playboy (as I was taking my Playboy to Expo) and AC/DC because I knew my friend Trent was going to have an AC/DC at the show in the main hall. Though, the original light kits covered all of the Sega / Stern games that used the wood speaker panels with the square speaker holes. So 1998's Lost in Space - what was available then in October 2012.
I got the idea on October 1st and we had the 3 prototype light kits and acrylic designs ready to show off by the 17th when the show kicked off. We left for the show a day or two early so it was basically 2 weeks from concept to showing them off. No tease or anything....just "Here they are!" They were like nothing that had been seen or done on a PINBALL machine before. Look at the announcement thread....you won't see any "I've seen that before" "My friend Joe did that on his game" or "Anyone could have done that" to be seen. We were selling them like crazy because not only had no one seen anything like them before (IN PINBALL MACHINES!), but as I said....they covered 14 years worth of games on day 1.
It's disheartening to see it being disparaged and infuriating to have people call me a liar about being the first to do it IN A PINBALL MACHINE.

The point of the discussion was about the idea, not about who was the first one. Again: it's a general item. Like a screw.
Instead of downvote, please tell us, why do you think this thing is so special, and exclusive?

Let's better the hobby...

2 designs, I uploaded to Thingiverse:

1. Judge Dredd gearbox cover:

During my JD restoration I realized that the deadworld gearbox is open. I learned that at some point Bally changed to open version as part of cost cut.
I think open gearbox is not a good idea: no dust protection, and risk of fallen screws, washers while the playfield is lifted.
I created a perfect fit plug. Now my gearbox is closed.
(In the opened pic, originally there are 2 shafts and the screws to the motor.)

2. Indiana Jones drop target stop

This a known issue. The coil is not strong enough and/or the spring is too strong.
I've printed a mechanical stop, the actuator can't go back to full end position. This helps to the coil at the beginning, and able to move the actuator.

I'm really starting to dislike ABS
[quoted image]

What's the reason of using ABS?

Quoted from gdonovan:

Non pinball related application.

I see - but without knowing the real goal it's hard to offer alternates (if your are looking for).

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

If you make a single piece for a Bally/Williams title and try to distribute it (either sell or give away for free) and Rick from PPS finds out about it (he has minions everywhere) then you will be asked/threatened to cease and desist.

I disagree. It's far-far from the original design.

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

Right or wrong, I read his question as a general inquiry, not about the specific item he pictured.
However, you do bring up a valid delineation. If your mod is not a replica of an original part, then you should not have an issue (there are exceptions). However, if your mod is a replica or utilizes licensed imagery then I stand by my initial statement.
I’m not sure if/what issues you have had to deal with given the mods you have created (I have purchased at least one of them - excellent work), but I have firsthand experience on multiple occasions to backup my statement.

You are right, I have to read more carefully.

Great write-up!
Another option, because I'm not super smart (and also still use windows 7, haha), is Tinkercad. It is my go to program for easy manipulation of already designed stl files from thingiverse or anywhere else for that matter. Also, you can design almost anything in it as well. Literally designed a wonkavator with it. It took forever but it worked.
( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4754818 ) and ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4754263 )
I personally can't figure out any of those other design programs so I use tinkercad to design everything I've made.
Here's a screenshot of the file I linked you to from thingiverse. I imported every piece to tinkercad after unzipping the files. Once they are here we can magically turn them in to anything we want. Or we can easily resize them all to fit your application.
Ask questions, we're here to help.
Best to keep it as simple as possible. Here's a very simple solution that would also work for a quick tinkercad remix to your desired dimensions. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4909379
Best wishes,

I agree. Tinkercad is very good for beginners - you don't need any experience with complex 3D design software. However you have to be very creative in case of complex shapes.
I created this crane for Judge Dredd in Tinkercad (in Windows 7 ):
