Quoted from gdonovan:

Success.
Now to start refining settings.

ha, I recognize that part. It can be a beast with all the internal supports needed to print in that orientation. One of the reasons I split it in the original design so it can be oriented differently without all the supports. The remixed wand base by windrake is nice though and fixes some of the model issues from the original design mine was based off. Cool to see it being used by others.

Since some droids have been shared I'll share mine Both printed on a monoprice maker select so a ton of finishing work. Just upgraded to and ender 3 max and it's amazing how far these printers have come.

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

Great looking Chopper! Was this at Halloween? Udvar-Hazy is one of my favourite places in the world

Thanks, yeah it was at Air and Scare a few years back. Not a lot of choppers out there which is why I built him. The eastern droid builders group had many R2's there that year. Smithsonian didn't have it last year and it was outside this year so didn't take the droid.

The difference between qualities in cura, and every other slicer, has to do with the layer height and speed. With a .4 nozzle .1 layer height is high quality and .2 is ideal but you can print larger than that up to .32. The larger the layer height the shorter the print time but less detail in the Z axis. The .4 nozzle is a good default size but for really high quality you will want a smaller nozzle and smaller layer height but the print time will drastically increase. Likewise you can go larger nozzle (for large prints I like .8) but the detail will be lower all around. I found this awesome chart a while back and I reference it all the time especially when changing nozzle sizes.

I bought the ender 3 max which has the bed spring upgrade, metal filament arm, and several other upgrades from the standard ender 3. I've made no mechanical modifications to it and print a ton with it. In fact this was my first print. 3.5 days of constant printing with the .4 nozzle after unboxing (torture test). Subsequent prints I did switch to the .8 nozzle as I print big things on it and wanted it faster. Same helmet and settings prints in just over 1.5 days now.
