Nice job! You are correct, the original part used a screw through the center of the disc that threaded into the shaft of the target. See attached pic...
The cat artwork on the original vari-target is the same as the Cyclone cat on the 3 target bank. I think you can get stickers? If not you can Google Cyclone target for a pic and print & glue them to your target.
