Decided to make a rotisserie to make my life easier when I'm working on Polynesia or my long gestating whitewood design.

$19 for 24" by 48" sheet of 1/2" birch plywood, and about $15 in hardware bits. I didn't use the usual lazy susan hardware, but instead used nested nylon spacers and fender washers. It is adjustable for length from 40" to 50", and has 16 peg holes to lock in your preferred working angle.

    Quoted from wxforecaster:

Neat! What prevents the PF from sliding off the two end rests? Are you relying purely on pressure from each end? Plans and a parts list?

I will be using small c-clamps to lock the playfield to the arms.

Working on assembling a parts list, should have it in a day or two. I put the rotisserie together over 3-4 days with multiple shopping trips with redundant and/or unused parts, so I have to backtrack to see exactly what I ended up using.

Plans/cut list will take a little longer, but shouldn't be too bad. I'll have PDF or SVG files available once I'm done drafting it up.

I haven't typed up the hardware parts list yet (I'll get that up later tonight), but it comes to $12.54 before tax. Its all stuff from the standard parts that most ACE hardware stores will have, so it should be in stock or easily orderable. Cost doesn't include the box of 1" long #6 wood screws that I used in the glued and screwed dado joints.

    Quoted from Matesamo:

Sweet, hopefully we get a PDF of the plans as this would be the perfect craft gift for my father-in-law to make me for Christmas, lol.

Yes, I'll be doing PDF & SVG files for download. (Inkscape user here, but Illustrator should open the .SVG files with no issues.)

    The parts list:

    Plywood
1x 24" x 48" 1/2" thick plywood or MDF (Home Depot Birch plywood used in photos above)

2x 1" x 2" x 6' clear pine (mdf, poplar, etc can also be used)
    Nylon Spacers
    4x 1" OD x 1/2" ID, 3/8" thick nylon spacer
    2x 1/4"-20 thread, 1/2" OD, 1" length nylon spacer
    Metal Washers
    4x 1/4" x 2" fender washer
    12x 1/4" x 1" fender washer
    2x 7/16" ID, washer

    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

how do you clamp down the back of a playfield with back panel? I do like the peg locking system tho. I wanted to do that to mine.

C-clamps or trigger clamps, similar to this:

    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

yes, but how does that work on the back of the playfield, where you have a huge tall backboard on it? Like a game like shadow, where you have the backboard, and a mini playfield and all kinds of goodies against the back rail. Plus the underside is loaded with brackets and what not, on the bottom sections.

Honestly, couldn't tell you how that might work since I currently am an EM-only kind of guy so haven't been exposed to needing to deal with that issue.

Ok, I've had enough requests for kits that I'm thinking of making a few available. What would y'all consider a fair price?

    #21 6 years ago

Oh, I'll be putting the plans out as well for free, just have to draw them up.

    Quoted from BorgDog:

I like the bushing idea and may take it one step further to metal bushing to not have to worry about wear from the bolt threads, probably overkill but wth.

The center nylon bushing that has the bolt directly inside of it is already threaded (1/4" x 20), so there shouldn't be any wear in that part of the pivot mechanism.

An updated parts list from McMaster Carr. https://www.mcmaster.com

I had killed the link for a few hours. Woke up realizing I had a couple other fairly important errors than needed to be fixed...

The new file (with the big 1" holes in the swing arms and pivot plates) should now be available above.

    Quoted from Mk1Mod0:

I beg to differ... I do like this one, though. The multi-angle is awesome and it's a lot closer to portable than the other. Nicely done!
    Shawn

It breaks down into the two parts, and it's designed so they nest one inside of the other. It's fairly lightweight as well.

    Quoted from rotordave:

Most Mitre10 Mega stores have a cabinet with fixings in it. Alternatively any enginneering supply store will have these parts, or their metric equivalents.

The McMaster Carr catalog/website is a benchmark for having *everything* you need to spec a part, including technical drawings, etc. It's a great resource, and McMaster Carr parts list I posted above should give you really good info to match up the parts if you need to use a different source.

Nice! Glad you could find the hardware you needed. I might just borrow that design tweak with the removable adjustment arms...
