Depends on the game and when it was manufactured. EM's usually deserve 5 ball, early SS's generally are better with 5. It gets tricky on alpha numerics and DMD's, but most seem better with 3 balls. Late SS's can go on and on and on, 5 ball is too much unless it's on something like Iron Man where most casual players only get 2 minutes of game time.
