Quoted from TimeBandit:

3 ball because it feels natural. It has a very balanced "beginning, middle and end" feel to it.
First ball, hey here we go, right, good start good start, come on.
Second ball, ok still got two balls here, build on the good start or start digging out of the rough. Maybe settle in for some woodchopping.
Ball three, crikey this is it. Last chance. Make a good go of it here. Running behind then turn up the risk reward. On a good game then pile on.
5 ball and I find the game loses a bit of its dramatic structure and becomes just one damn thing after another.

Well put, that's how I see it- especially on TAF. Bally SS, five ball all the way.
