I have a 1963 swing along game. It works fine except for the second player ones were not rolling to the tens and there were random credits. The first player didnt have any issues.
I had a tech in and he ran a wire between the second player ones and the tens coil and that fixed the second player roll to tens issue. But now both players will issue random credits.
This is even with all the high score pins out and the matching pins unplugged. I put a toggle switch in the wire the tech ran so I can play one player games and they work fine. But whenever i play two players the game awards credits randomly.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Rob

Does it try to add credits even if the replay counter is maxed out at 26?
Pics of the back box and wire/switch mod would help. And post or pm me the schematic if you can.

#3 1 year ago

When you hit 26 credits it stops issuing credits. I will send pics of back when i get a chance.

#4 1 year ago

I had to take in several pics. Hope you can work with it.
Thanks

I see at least one score reel that needs to be worked on maybe more. Goat shed EM pinball repair just did a video on these. Can you compile a list of what scores are showing when it happens? Do the players 1000 point lights need to be lit for the problem to happen?

#6 1 year ago

Ill try to see if i can determine what scores award credits. Also its provides credits in the lower ranges so the 1000 points light has not come on yet. And it seams like once it hits the first credit almost everything it his provides another for about 5 credits.

The O and P relays need to be checked for proper operation. Clean and inspect switches and gaps. Inspect wire connections. Check resistance of coils and resistors for comparison. Clean and inspect the ball count unit rivet disc. Do not reapply any conductive lubricants. Watch operation of O and P relays while playing the machine, and maybe a spark will be visible in the back box when the problem happens .

O and P look ok.
Not sure how to check resistance.
Cleaned the ball count unit with 600 grit sand paper then alcohol.
No change.
Watched O and P while credits were awarded. Didn’t see anything.
Credits are awarded at random. Can’t predict. I have had 0,1,5,7 and 9 just now. When credits start being awarded an additional credit is awarded if the score increases by 10 as long as the ones don’t change. This goes until 26 credits where it stops.

Unsolder the orange & green wire from the 0-9 unit disc. High score replays are only awarded when the 100 point relay pulls in. If replays are awarded when the other scoring relays pull in, should point to the match feature. Unsoldering the wire should completely disconnect the match feature from awarding credits, even if the match plugs are pulled or turned off.

Dave, THANK YOU!!!
That solved the issue. Now everything works on my machine except the match and i can live with that.
I took a picture of the unsoldered wire showing the position should anyone else have the same issue. The colors can be hard to determine.
Thanks again
Rob

The 4 ac voltage tests will be done in the backbox with match feature plugs unplugged and the orange & green wire still unsoldered. Connect the black probe to a jumper and connect other end of jumper to the black wire ( usually found on coils) . This jumper will stay in this place.
Attach the red probe to a jumper and the other end will connect to these test points in order of importance.
#1 match feature female jones plug with brown & red wire. Watch and record meter for voltage while being played for all 4 tests.
#2 1st player 1’s score reel disc. Slate-green wire that might show a C for common next to the lug.
#3 is same exact spot on 2nd player ones unit disc. Play a 2 player game on this test.
#4 is the lug that the orange & green wire was unsoldered from. The only time this will show voltage is when a replay would have been awarded.
Post results.

Thank you for the helpful info.
The next test will be on test point 4 ( the unsoldered lug).
With the machine at game over, plug in the match feature and observe match lite on back glass. Advance 0-9 unit until 0 shows on back glass. Unplug the match feature. Reset machine.
Set the machine for 2 players. Watch meter for voltage up to this point.
Lift and support playfield.
Momentarily push closed score motor switch 1D, check reading. Repeat this for 3B switch next and then both together. Allow switch closures to be long enough for meter to settle in for correct reading.
Post results.
