Quoted from 76brian:2N3904 is a very common NPN why change?
2n3904 is better at low current. 2n4401 can handle more current. usually doesn't matter. 2n4401 is my jellybean NPN
Quoted from Tomass:I have done this too since I saw that it is compatible, but why does Williams use both on the same system 11 board? Just seems odd to me.
Maybe 2n3904 cost them 0.01 each and 2n4401 cost 0.012 each and when you buy 100k of them at once it adds up.
