    Hi,

    I have a USB programmer GQ 4x4

My goal is to record Blackout sound eprom to 2532. Therefore I have ordered SGS M2532, TMS2532, ST M2532. I plugged a 12v supply.

First of all, I cannot fins any device in the list which corresponds to my eproms.

Then whatever the device I select on the GQ 4x4 software, which has a link to 2532, none reads the new Eproms with FF (blanked). The standard 2532 reads other characters, the other device software give "read error" messages.

Is there a problem with my handling, or is this progammer unable to read these 2532 ?

    thanks

    Yes ST are chinese chips.
Sgs used from Poland but UV eraser does not manage to blank them

TMS are blanked, but in write mode, with 2532 generic device, the programmer blocks immediately and returns an error message. TMS2532A read only does not work, even with a 12vdc supply and a speed of 5 (-2 in the checkbox)

    Quoted from Quench:

Have you tried programming these as 2732?

The pinout and the size of the eproms are not the same. I have not tried as the hardware are different, do you think the files can be copied with a software that records on a larger eprom ?

You are right. I am busy with another type of chips.

The guy refunded me fully. But he says it is blanked on his side. I can try to read it eith 2732

No more luck with the 2732, nor ST M2732

    Quoted from wiredoug:

hit the B icon and blank check it. then get the programming voltage right before you start.

ignore this its wrong. you need a UV eraser.

Blank check is failing. I ll check if I can see the voltage displayed

    Quoted from Quench:

You can see the silicon die for different 2732 here, 2532 I presume just has some different wire between the wafer and the external pins.
    http://cpucollection.ca/2732.htm
ST brand came from the merger of SGS and Thomson semiconductors.
When you read the chip that fails blank check, if you read it a few times do you always get the same data read or does the data change between reads?

    Hi,

    Thanks for the information.

It reads different at each "Read" ?!@? Any reason ?

    Good to read you all.

I am not a specialist in this pinball domain. I know that I have no issue with 2732 for system 11, but did not pay too much attention to the 2532. I though it would be piece of cake.

The original speech was in French and I wanted it in English, without bridging and cutting tracks on the original board.

I will try to get HN462532 as recommended. My Ti TMS is blanked but I you write BArakandl, the guy might have erased the Tms2532 (I read it all FF) but unable to write on them.

    Quoted from barakandl:

I remember just looking with a DMM and it did not seem like the programming voltage goes all the way to 25vdc on my GQ4X and could explain some issues with 25v burning chips . Not sure if they are pulsing it though and that is an average voltage reading.
Occasionally I will get a write error the first time trying an eprom and erasing it a second or even a third try it finally programs all the way through. Once they are programmed and verify OK almost never have problems later. Worth giving it a longer erase bake cycle and try again. Use an external PS with the GQ-4X if you have it. A powered USB hub seems to work too. It has to boost up the usb 5v to 25v and seems like some usb port cannot deliver enough power at times on the high programming voltage chip.

    I ll try a longer erasing time. I plugged a 12v PS

    Quoted from Quench:

Remarks don't mean they're bad - I actually use them all the time and luckily rarely had any issues.

I guess you have another programmer

    #29 3 years ago

It is just a basic 220vac to 12Vdc transformer.

yes I could put the 2 jumpers and cut a track, but I wanted to make it clean if possible It is a Williams sys 6 speech board. My computer is 2 years old, the USB controller version is 3.0

    Hi,

Just to follow up on this, I managed to erase and successfully program 2 TMS2532JL I found in the bunch of parts I have at home. They had been initially programmed for a Zaccaria Time machine. I am happy, but not fully, I still miss 1 eprom

At least I am now confident this device can record files on 2532, but not the chinese ones not the TMS2532A

Conclusion: I ordered Hitachi Eproms. It works fine. I get my speeches

    Thanks
