Wow that's awesome! Please tell me you ordered those wholesale because that's got to be several thousand dollars at retail.

Hi Damon!
Sadly, it's all retail. You aren't too far off!
Luckily though, I live within a few hours of the largest fireworks store in the US and they have good prices. But I do like to spread the money around locally as well, so it did cost A LOT!
But, it's great fun having a nice show for family and friends every year, so that takes a bit of the sting out of the prices.
Quoted from mjg417:They just passed a law in ohio they are legal here now.
Nice, congrats! They were illegal in Iowa from the 30's until 2017. But many jurisdictions placed their own local ban on them after the state law went into effect. Luckily, Muscatine allows them 2 days in July and then 2 days around New Years.
Quoted from transprtr4u:All those fireworks in a room of pins ,would make me worry!
Just staged for a pic on the way from unloading out front and being taken out into the shed! No worries!

I can smell that picture from here!
Have fun!
used to make a yearly trip or two to millers fireworks, just outside of toledo, ohio, but like everything else i get into, was just spending too much money every year, just to set it all on fire. although i put on amazing shows, in the end you are basically just setting money on fire. attached is a pic of the aftermath of one our final shows back in the day.
so i switched over to animated christmas lighting (e.g. The Great Christmas Light Fight) before it was a thing that everyone did. (dont do that anymore either. and sold all my controllers and decorations.)
have fun, be safe. enjoy!!

Hot dang.. it’s like you have your own stand, but instead you kept it for yourself.
Sucks being in California where airborne fireworks are illegal for citizens.

I took this picture behind the Banning Pinball Museum, January 2020. There were quite a few of these fireworks stands. I was under the impression that you could buy fireworks for a short period of time just before the 4th. Legally! Is that the case?

It’s probably in the sellers best interest to sell this time of year when they have the most customers. As long as you are licensed with the ATF and selling within the confines of state law based on product you can sell year round.
Kind of like those pop up Halloween stores. They don’t operate in February since they probably won’t see as much business as say…October.
I wish we could buy firecrackers here in Canada. Not the big ones that will easily blow your hand off like an M80, but just smaller black cats or similar that aren't too dangerous.

Don’t feel too bad we can’t here in MN either but yet we can in ND, WI, etc
Unless something gets out of hand nobody really cares if they are brought into state and lit during the holiday weekend.
Here in Missouri it's legal in most counties to buy. Not in St. Louis, but neighboring counties are close. They are also illegal to launch in St. Louis, but the police have better things to do.
I have a modest stash in the garage. Nothing like MattElder's. I buy the day after ID, when the tents put the fireworks on clearance. I would buy more, but the head of the household where we bbq at every year happily spends a bunch of money on the big stuff. I mainly get stuff that keeps the kids in fun.
Quoted from tomdrum:Just be careful, you don't want to end up with an injury like NFL player Jason Pierre Paul. [quoted image]
For sure! I think you posted that in my thread last year as well. Haha.
I use a nice remote firing system (as a good pyro should ), so I definitely take safety very seriously!

Sorry! Just a reminder that alcohol consumption and fireworks don't mix. It's hard to play pinball with fingers missing.

No worries! And I don't drink, so no issue on that front either.
But yes, be careful and have fun everyone!

You should totally get back in to either of those hobbies neighbor. I will be freeloading from the closest parking lot
I’ve got ten of these to run up the flag pole this year. Happy Independence Day!

we used to have one of largest July 4th parties all around. Cars would find us from I77 and come over and park in the old kmart parking lot to watch the show. (about 2 blocks away) we had so many cars when we were cleaning up stop by and say thanks, it was the best show they have ever seen. it was a lot of work, but also a ton of fun.
i too got to the point of using an e-firing system so i could sit behind a table and watch my own show. also, i never consumed a drop of alcohol until the show was complete. (i was actually licensed to shoot 1.3 pyro for awhile) different time in my life back then. great memories.
I haven't done my own fireworks in years, but thinking about doing some this year. As a kid I just loved this stuff, twice a year. Lately I've been super interested in Cody B's youtube channel. The guy is a real fireworks enthusiast and very knowledgeable.

Yep, he's a big name in the pyro world. He is now making a living off all those vids! Back in April while grabbing some stuff down in Missouri, I noticed that he now has a cake designed by him / named after him. I didn't buy it, but that's pretty cool!

If you live in Muscatine you are 154 miles from the largest fireworks store in America which is in Hannibal, MO.
I live in Quad cities and get most of mine from Jake's Fireworks in Davenport. The are only open for about 2 months around the 4th but they have a pretty-awesome inventory.
I miss this!! There's a lot of nostalgia involved for me with fireworks and memories as a kid. Last time I tried to pull off a party and clear it with my neighbors in advance and warn them that things will get noisy they still got uptight and asked us to stop. I always clean up as well. Unfortunately we are kind of abused when it comes to fireworks in Minnesota. They're not legal really and if they are they can't leave the ground, safe and sane i believe they call it...so dumb and disappointing but you can jump the border and buy the good stuff!

Yep, that would be the place. There's some other decent spots around Hannibal as well. And yes, I get some stuff from Jake's now and then, but my favorite QC fireworks place is Crossroads Superstore in Bettendorf.

Dude. The way you framed Rod Sterling between fireworks like a picture frame is freaking awesome.
I was wondering where the hell you got a Twilight Zone themed firework!
Quoted from tomdrum:Sorry! Just a reminder that alcohol consumption and fireworks don't mix. It's hard to play pinball with fingers missing.
Please... I don't think I have ever seen a local monster fireworks display set off by a sober person once.
Thats part of the fun.. same guys that go "boating" which is code for day drinking on a boat.
Quoted from mzhulk:I have one of my bedrooms filled with fireworks, about 8000 worth. That's with buy 1 get 2 free and whole case discounts.

I see that your mannequin lost a hand. Perhaps it's time to talk about fireworks safety with her...

I feel for ya. I waited my whole life for that moment in 2017 when Iowa legalized fireworks. But even then it was still not a sure thing because tons of places started putting local bans into place. I got lucky that my city and county both let things be. That said, they did pare down the time span that they are allowed to be used. That I was okay with.
Anyway, Ohio just legalized them, so maybe Minnesota will be next...
Quoted from mzhulk:That's with buy 1 get 2 free and whole case discounts.
Where do you find sales like that? They just don’t come up here locally. Thanks.
Do they still make jumping jacks?
Me and my brother used to have fun throwing those at each other to see if we can get out of the way while they are bouncing around.
We were smart... Jart dodging was another thing we did.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they still make those. They also make a fountain that shoots like a dozen of those out at the end.
Do they still make something called a Two-Stage Silver Jet? It was like a pill shaped plastic with a propeller that was usually 2-colors red/white, blue white, etc. Those things were awesome and flew so freaking high!

Got some the other day. They are great bang for the buck fun.
Edit: picked up 10 more packs of jj's today.

I found a set of those at an antique shop a few years ago. Easier to buy a gun.
I was at a family BBQ yesterday and my girlfriend's uncle showed up with a set he found at a garage sale and sure as shit her son almost got hit with one if he had not moved in time.the cliche about them seems to be accurate but they are fun

They are fun as hell but seriously….what were our parents thinking letting a bunch of kids play with those….amazing we didn’t kill our selves. I am a child of the late 70’s and 80’s…the shit we did back then….

For sure! I remember playing with them with no adult supervision in the early 80's. So crazy. Different times.

When I was ~5 years old (mid 70's), I accidentally put one of those dead center in a Corvette hood. My uncle says to the fella "well you shouldn't have been parked there".
