Wow! You move quick.

Curious as to why you decided on a new PF instead of a hardtop? I will be doing something to my Taxi within the next year and am considering these two options.

To attain maximum performance levels, one must stay well hydrated with energy drinks.

I feel a hardtop is a good option for a less valuable machine. If u dont want to strip the underside of pf, it's great.
If I take on a project machine, I'm doing everything I can to make it as good as it was when new.
And it's only a couple hundred dollar difference..

Flippers rebuilt. I switched these from compression spring to much better extension spring design.

What's required do this? I'd like to upgrade my Funhouse flippers one day.

The only mod to your existing hardware is drilling a hole in the mounting bracket for the capacitor where the spring attaches. Otherwise I believe it's just a matter of buying the newer kit.

The only concern I had when I did it on my Pin*Bot was making sure the new hole didn't have super sharp edges. Was concerned about cutting through the spring with use.

Simply getting the mechs of the updated parts. Coils stay the same.

You won’t have to worry about this if you just buy the complete mechs.

Looking good. I have a pretty beat up Taxi in my queue so I will be following along. Just out of curiosity, what did you soak the harness in to get it looking that clean?

#65 4 years ago

2 gallons of Greased Lightning degreaser. I keep it in a 5 gallon bucket just for harness/parts cleaning. Soak them overnight.

#66 4 years ago

So on this one it looks like you left allot of the mechs and switches soldered. Then after the de grease are transferring them over as on unit
If that. Is correct, it seems like it would be a big time saver for most swaps.?
Curious if a downside to this bc it seems easier as well.
Thanks for posting this

Refreshingly simple playfield, for a good playing game. Well designed.

Yes! Taxi is one of my favorite games because it is a simple table, yet very challenging to actually play it well. I got a Jokerz! a few months ago as my first table and have been tinkering with it learning the ropes of how to repair and diagnose things. I actually really like playing it because, while the rules are simple, there is a lot to do on the table to actually get a good score.

Looking forward to seeing your process of bringing this table back to its former goodness. Would love to find one to restore at some point.

Is there a parts listing somewhere ? Don't want to forget anything. Thanks!

Easiest to get the full mech from pinball life.

But if you wanted to try and use the current bracket just get the rebuild kit that has the extension springs.

#71 4 years ago

I buy complete kits from Marcos. Although for some reason, they don't include flipper bushings, so be sure to get. And then just drill a hole for the spring in the switch mount.

Filling in the topside of pf. I got all new ramps from Starship, incl the blue proto color. Awesome that he makes these available, I always thought the red looked out of place.

FWIW, I like how the blue blends in also.....

Checking ramp fit. Looking good.

This was the first time doing this way, and this is how I will do from now on. Before, I used an ultrasonic cleaner, which is limited on space.
Not anymore.

Still need to go thru the drop targets, but top of pf almost finished.

I wanna play that thing.

#84 4 years ago

Jjsmooth, if you don’t mind me asking, do you know how many blue plastic posts this game uses by chance? Mine are all hideously faded, and I’m planning a similar restore soon. It would be nice to order new ones before I tear down the playfield to count them.

#85 4 years ago

I would get 30 to be safe. They are cheap, and u don't want to run short.

Come to Pincinnati 2020. I'll bring it.

The drop targets on this era Williams sometimes get slow from dirt buildup. Typical cleaning doesn't help alot of times.
There are 2 washers that sandwich the target under spring pressure.
One under the target here

#90 4 years ago

These are 2 of those washers. One on left cleaned with degreaser and brush. One one right lightly polished under wire wheel.
Makes all the difference.
There is also another of these washers under the spring clip. I omit that one to lessen spring pressure, and get quick dropping targets.

Me too. It's great seeing this old machine back in its original shape/colors. Such a good looking game. 99% of Taxis look tired, so we tend to forget how beautiful they were. Seeing Phoebe's made me look to find one.
And Mircos playfield sealed the deal.

#97 4 years ago

How’s the quality on the playfield? Did you have to do any drilling or correction to the dimples and such?

#98 4 years ago
Quoted from PantherCityPins:

This is probably the 6th Mirco pf I've used. 99% of holes/dimples have been spot on.
Finish quality top notch, on par with Buthamburg, in my opinion.

Did you soak your micro switches? How do you get the water out?

#100 4 years ago
Quoted from Jenniebear:

I do leave them on when soaking. There is nothing but a copper leaf switch inside, so nothing to hurt. What little water enters is gone by the time I hang and blow with compressed air.
I was always nervous about leaving them on, until I saw someone take one apart.
