I'm calling this a 2020 resto, cause that's when most of the work will be done. Here is the candidate.

Refreshingly simple playfield, for a good playing game. Well designed.

Following! Just bought my Taxi and considering a resto down the road!

#13 6 months ago

Taxi an all time classic that's deserving of something like this.

#14 6 months ago

I just disassembled mine completely, must be in the air...!! I'm going with a hardtop..

Jeeze, the "before" pics are already better than 95% of the Taxis out there!

#17 6 months ago

I noticed you bought a Marilyn playfield but you have a Lola game. Did you get the Roms for a Marilyn?

I was thinking the same!

Time to start a pot of...harness stew.
I'll let that simmer for 24 hrs.

Nothin says holidays like harness stew.

So nothing corrodes or anything if you stick a harness in soap and water for a day?

#24 6 months ago

I use degreaser.
Nothing corrodes.
I'll rinse it with water, hang it up, and blow it dry with compressed air.

#25 6 months ago

Following.. Love Taxi..

#27 6 months ago

Following also....I'd love to get a Taxi someday....great game!

#28 6 months ago

Glad to have u along.
Fresh from the harness stew. Even the pop bumper switch stacks look great.

Connectors clean up nicely too.
And this is with no scrubbing. Soak for a day, rinse, and hang'em up. I used to use the dishwasher (wife hated that), got an ultrasonic (kind of a pain, and meant for small stuff), but this is the best way for me. And the simplest.

I put the pf hinge mounts on the new pf now, and check fit in the cabinet. So much easier now to adjust fit now, than when pf is populated.

If it didn't fit square in the box, I would oval the holes in the mount, get it right, then add the 3 wood screws.

I have a Taxi as well that I'd love to be able to restore. I learned my lesson from the last time I overreached lol. Following though.

New pf on the rotisserie. Started with installing new lamp sockets and ground braid.

Looking forward to this one! You do great work

#36 6 months ago

How did you know where to install ground braid?

Thanks. I appreciate that.

I have the old pf (with original lamp sockets, ground braid, and some hardware still attached)
to refer to. I will share pic tomorrow.

Can’t wait to see the cab restoration.

#40 6 months ago

^^^^^ Yeah hope to see those hangers and the lockdown bar assembly shining later.

#41 6 months ago

Enjoying the new thread! Does this mean the Funhouse is 100% done?

Waiting for a few parts from owner (display/panel, bg, side rails, and legs).

Original pf, current state, gives me a map of original ground braid.

Thanks! I have a playfield swap for f-14 in my future. I’ve done hardtop, but not a full swap yet. For the harness, you just unsoldered all coils and left switches attached to the wire harness for the wash? What degreaser do you use.

#46 6 months ago

I left alot of the small hardware on the old pf as well, so I don't have to rely on pics to populate the new one. Nice to have a physical reference when placing new, or cleaned, hardware on new pf.

I left coils, and some mounts, intact this time just to clean them. I will resleeve and put new wrappers on all of them.

The larger mechs are in the degreaser now.
I use Greased Lightning, available in gallons at Home Depot.

I buy longer coil sleeves than I need, and cut them to fit. 1 size fits all.
