Quoted from classicgamefan:FYI- This year's main pinball tournament has changed to a limited number of participants (64) in a match play format. Registration opened up September 1 and I believed filled up the first day (I missed the announcement). There is a wait list, but unless they expand the field, I don't have high hopes for getting in. It looks like even Phil Grimaldi (one of the top Texas players) is on the wait list. If anyone else was planning on playing in the tournament, you might sign up for the wait list and let them know there is demand for an expanded field.
Tournament Director here! I was quite surprised to see the tournament fill up so quickly. All 64 slots were filled in 2 hours! To give some context, the Houston tournament had 59, 45, and 44 players in 2017, 2016, and 2015 respectively. I figured it might fill up in a few weeks, but 2 hours is insane. This could be caused by a number of things -- the format itself might be more in demand, or it might just reflect the overall growth we've seen in the last few years. Who knows! I'm still skeptical that we'll have a full field of 64 on game day. Last I checked there were about 10 on the waitlist, and we've already had 1 person drop out.
Whether or not we expand is largely determined by space constraints. I need to sit down and do the math. While I want to see everyone get in, I'm not sure how fun it will be if everyone is packed in like sardines and tripping over each other. Tensions run high at tournaments as it is! The other factor is the conditions of the games when they arrive. If we get several duds, it may not be possible to expand. Won't know until the day of, unfortunately. If you're on the waitlist, and you'll be at the show anyway, I highly recommend you hang around at the start of the tournament to find out whether or not you get in.
Do note that the Texas Pinball League has their finals on Friday morning of the Expo. If you want to get your tournament fix during the expo, qualifying for TPL finals is one way to do it. More details at https://texaspinballleague.wordpress.com/

Hi, this is Phil, the tournament director. I'll be contacting people this week about these logistics, but the short answer is to drop off any time during the load in hours. We prefer Thursday evening, but whatever works best for you. All games should be loaded before noon on Friday. The tournament does not start until 6pm Friday, so there will be plenty of time for testing.
The tournament will be live streamed on Saturday October 20. Women’s finals at 4:30pm Central, and A-Finals at 6:30PM Central. https://www.twitch.tv/spacecitypinball
I’ve made a ton of recent improvements to the stream to make everything super polished. Our new mobile rig will allow all 20 games to be shown in 1080p, 60fps. We have new cut animations for a professional feel. We’ll also be debuting slow motion instant replay so viewers can get a second view of all the sweet saves and tragic drains. Hope you’ll tune in!
