Can someone please get some video of the linked P3s playing Cosmic Cart Racing?

Oh, and video of Gerry's seminar tomorrow would be great, thanks.

Great show! New location so much better in every way, obviously. Good to see a lot of people there. Show is really growing.

Thanks to all that brought games. Special thanks to those thought bought new games for the show. Cool to see premiums and pros of Deadpool and IronMaiden. My boys loved the VR games.

Back home and back in the line up. Dragonfist got some good reports back on playfield speed and a few people let me know how much of a d!€k this game can be, which in my opinion makes it a great tourney game.

It’s unfriendly tournament issue was resolved late Saturday evening so hopefully a few of you got to play it without the overly sensitive spinner switch issue.

It will at TPF unless something happens between now and then, and if it makes it there. Expect a properly done cabinet.

First; before we get into some constructive criticism... I wanted to thank the HAAG crew for an awesome show. I appreciate the work you did and the selection of a great venue. I think this hotel is MUCH better than the old location. Despite the issues below; I did have a good time due to friends who attended.

That said; I was disappointed for a few reasons.
    1) Pinball ... it wasn't there. WAY too many broken or barely functional Arcade machines and more than a few broken Pins before the soft open on noon Friday. I don't mind a few; but a significant number of the Arcades were down on Friday even before the show opened. There were just too many duplicates (weren't' there like 20 Centipedes ? ) If you ignore the vendors (Joystik and Marco); there were only 30 or so Pins... and a significant percentage of them were behind ropes in the Tourney area. When the Tourney was done on Friday (and Saturday?) night... The Tourney organizer kept the machines off and behind roped off areas... some of the best machines (TnA) were there.

    2) The music... OMG. This has to go or be separate from the game room. Having a live stage in the game room was worse than having a DJ in the game room. Please consider taking this elsewhere. I want to actually hear a machine I'm playing. The music was loud enough when pre-recorded... but was easily 20x-50x worse when "bands" were preforming. It was actually intolerable and I had to leave early because it was just too much. While the back of the hall was better... you couldn't even play any of the pins near the stage for two reasons. first being the shear pain of the music at that location. and second; the "mosh pit" which developed there. I do not want to get rich by selling HAAG earplugs next year.

    3) The Harp Twins were a welcome distraction from the game room. Thanks.

For 1); we as the community need to be honest with ourselves. If you don't have a good condition arcade game or better yet a working Pinball machine. Stop being arsehat who knowingly brings nonfunctional games just to get a free ticket. This does no one any service. I know this is happening because I've seen the same "nonfunctional" games for several shows.

If you won't outfit your arcade with FreePlay; then it's your responsibility to walk by every hour or so and make sure it's credited with massive credits. There was ?Vindicators? tank game which had NO CREDITS the entire weekend. Don't expect the public who probably doesn't know what a coin door is ... much less a coin switch to add credits for you.

I'd also like HAAG orgs to actively take a role here and minimize the abusers. Help keep the exhibitors honest. I get it these are old games which can and will breakdown; but a little policing can go a long way to make sure we don't have repeat offenders. No games should be accepted for exhibiting if they aren't outfitted with a external credit switch or Free play.

    B) When you are done with the tourney for the night; release those games to the game room. This is crucial if we are going to seen a heavily skewed game room in favor of Arcades.

For 2); Please follow TPF's lead here. Eliminate the "background" music. Do the stage performances somewhere else other than the game room - if at all. I just don't see any value in the party atmosphere. IF you actually have to keep this for some justifiable reason; then make sure the decibels are less than a Jet engine... and the stage performances do not exceed the same level as the background music. There is no reason people should have to escape the game room to ensure they don't end up with hearing loss.

Before someone gets defensive thinking; I did exhibit my game - the Only Star Trek LE on the floor. It was functional the entire show; and I even ensured that the flipper and slingshot rubbers were replaced on Friday night so they didn't break during the busy Saturday show.

    #138 5 years ago

The last game we played on Saturday was Star Trek LE! We did need to wait a few minutes to play it, but fantastic machine with an amazing blue starfield that was pretty effective at conveying the sense of space! Thanks for bringing it!!

    Quoted from Zitt:

    Quoted from Zitt:

When you are done with the tourney for the night; release those games to the game room. This is crucial if we are going to seen a heavily skewed game room in favor of Arcades.

Some people bring games for the tourney exclusively because they want tourney quality games to be able to play and because they know everyone who will be playing them. If they wanted their games on the floor then they wouldn’t have been put in the tourney...they would have put them on the floor. Tournament games are brought by the tourney community.

    Quoted from Zitt:

The music is awesome. My favorite part of the show. This show is meant to be a party. You can’t have a party without music.

    Quoted from Zitt:

    Please follow TPF's lead here.

To each their own. HAAG is the better show in my opinion. I’d be hugely disappointed if HAAG became more like TPF. No show is perfect but I think HAAG blew it away this year. I saw a lot of happy people having a blast all weekend.

I never noticed long lines of people waiting for machines. There were plenty of games available.

    #140 5 years ago

I’m with Zitt. I don’t play video games. I live an hour away and after I paid 60 bucks for my wife and myself to get in and there was a million vids and only a few pins and most were old and some not working I was disappointed. I stayed for a while and played the new stuff and left. I don’t care about the gamboling machines or all the shot for sale or the vids I come to play pins I don’t or can’t own right now. If it weren’t for Marco and Charlie I would have turned around and left.

The band on Saturday was not bad though.

    Quoted from zr11990:

Hey what was the deal with the two people dressed in what I assume was street fighter outfits. It seems the chic kept getting told her outfit was inappropriate.

I saw both of those couples. I'm sorry if this comes across as offensive but I don't know the character betters and can't recall if they were the same colors so I'm going to describe it as the bigger girl and smaller girl.

The bigger girls lower portion of her outfit wasn't covering "herself" at all times. I was walking by and happened to get a glimpse of more than I wanted to see. I'd agree it was past the level of appropriate so if she was asked to cover up a little bit I'd agree with that decision. And that is not because she was just a bigger girl (different strokes for different folks).

The smaller girl's outfit was more like a one piece swimsuit design and tighter fitting so kept her covered.

Both couples costumers were really cool though. One just wasn't executed quite as well with the fit and design.

Lol I appreciate the female form probably more than most but as an old guy I think some things should be left to the imagination and let’s just say she was not what I usually see in my imagination.

    Quoted from Zitt:

    1) When the Tourney was done on Friday (and Saturday?) night... The Tourney organizer kept the machines off and behind roped off areas... some of the best machines (TnA) were there.
    B) When you are done with the tourney for the night; release those games to the game room. This is crucial if we are going to seen a heavily skewed game room in favor of Arcades.

Not sure what you mean here. The very min the tournament was over Sat all games were opened up to general public. I stayed in that section till nearly 3AM playing them all. For Friday night they were not available for play as practice games on the machines were not allowed due to the format of the the tournament. I'm sure policing it between tournament players and non-tournament players for those 2 hours (we finished at about midnight Friday and shows was to close at 2am) would have been tough to police.

Music - I can agree with you here but with that said, it's felt the same the last several years so it's just something I know I have to deal with. I would prefer it to be toned down a bit as well but when walking by it seemed to have a lot of people enjoying it so I'm chalking it up to me just turning into my dad, so get off my lawn It was a tad frustrating while playing in the tournament as I couldn't hear the games at times. Specifically, in the semi's I didn't hear the queue that I got a double danger on a nudge. I saw the first danger in the DMD but not the second. I continued play and tilted doing a nudge I probably wouldn't have attempted if I knew I was on double danger. All the players had the same experience so not a "disadvantage" but something that I wish was better.

For the organizers. I will add a piece of constructive feedback. You need more security after hours. I was walking around the event a couple of times (after the close time Friday and early Sat morning) and it would have been stupid easy for someone to 5 finger discount some vendor products without anyone knowing. I'm very hopefully nobody did that. Just something I noticed was the lack of security after hours.

My biggest issue was that no Prewar games were represented..... Oh wait.......

    Great show this year everyone.

Great show again with a super new venue. From load in to load out I think it all went pretty well. Any complaints I have about the hotel would be on the hotel and not the show. (The same limited menu in the bar with the restaurant closed Friday AND Saturday? Really??)

The music is part of this show and is well tempered with plugs. Fortunately my musical tastes seem to run par with everyone taking turns as the DJ. If it were death metal or grunge or rap I might feel differently. While part of the nostalgia of a game to me is the sounds, I'm happy to be able to come and play them at all.

We hit up the tournament games after it ended on Saturday. Without a doubt some of the best games in the show. I get that they can't be opened up to everyone until the tournaments are over but the limited time really kinda sucks. I often think about entering the tourneys just to be able to play the games there. (Trust me, I am no threat to anyone winning but I hate to take a spot from a real competitor.)

Huge thanks to Keith and his army of volunteers who make the show great every year and to all the game contributors. It's not a show without the games! And every year it seems the same tireless bunch are manning the sales counter, repairing games, managing the lectures and performers and making sure the rest of us get to enjoy ourselves. It takes all y'all make it happen!

Was any thought given to making the "hallway" vendor area free to the public? Just a suggestion as the venue makes it easily doable. Might mean less entry sales but may do the vendors some good.

For the record, EBD did 555 games with 197 games won, Space Invaders did 377 games with 15 games won and until the Super Straight had to be shut off it started 272 games. (I finally removed the ball because people kept turning it back on. The right flipper button was sticking and the coil was going to fry.) I know many games weren't finished due to issues and breaks. It will be back next year after an overdue overhaul.

I figured it out. Load out is like that last day at summer camp where everyone is waiting for their bus or parent to pick them up. And you say goodbye to the friends you only see once or twice a year. Its a little sad, but you had a great time and look forward to doing it again next year.

Special thanks to hocuslocus for the loaner SDB. Couldn't have done it without you.

So, when is it too early to start asking about dates for next year?

    #148 5 years ago

I'm ready to mark it on the calendar myself. Let's go, 2019!!

I agree. The forum was great. Having the little café there next to the venue was great. Could take a break there. Tried a bunch of new games that I thought that I would like, but did not.

Saw others that I did not think I was interested in. They were great to play. Absolutely worth the price of admission. A huge thanks to all who brought their machines.
