This thread will document a Bride of Pinbot restoration. It will be done to a slightly higher level than my BoP resto of last year. It was titled "BoP resto/Buthamburg Pf".
I have gotten the email from Peter Brunner that my new pf will ship in a few weeks, so time to dig in.
This machine is available. PM me if interested.
Picked this up 3/5/18. Horribly yellowed pf, sagging bottom, not too dirty, spent it's life here in US.

Pf removed from cabinet, major parts removed. This one is not exactly a "wall hanger"...

Previous tech removed pins/connectors from the helmet light boards, and soldered directly...awesome..that makes disassembly a bit more difficult.
Pins/connectors going back on..

Bottom was sagging, getting replaced. I cut 3/4" off of the bottom of cabinet to get right to the top of the MDF bottom.

Bottom removed.

I will sand, Bondo, and paint inside of cabinet before I install new MDF, thereby eliminating any masking off of the new bottom panel.
Here decals removed (stripper), and glue removed (xylene).

Inside of cabinet cleaned, smoothed, primed, and sanded.

Temporarily set the cabinet on the new MDF bottom. Going to finish nicely.

Glued new MDF bottom to cabinet, and locking it in with these "L" strips of cherry. It adds the 3/4" that I removed before, so cabinet dimensions remain the same.
This will also be a much more durable edge than the plywood.

Appreciate that.
Applying bondo to smooth outside of cabinet.

H/D leg brackets, Stern style cabinet protectors.
Fresh artwork looks so good on this machine.

#21 6 years ago

Not sure. Ive actually never used them, but might be interesting.

#24 6 years ago

Ill be cleaning it up by replacing it with a new playfield by Peter Brunner. He does nice work.
It should be here in a week or so.

#25 6 years ago

Up on the legs, populating lower cabinet.

These resto decals (available from Treasure Cove) really make a nice statement when going to this effort.

Presently this machine is for sale. I won't do any custom mods unless I have a buyer in line, and that would be their choice.
Thanks for the interest.

Face cube cleaned, polished. Thankful Little Shop of Games makes these replacement ball guides. I set a yellowed original on there to compare.
Retrobrite treatment does not work on this type of plastic.
Flippers rebuilt as well.

Quoted from flynnibus:

curious what method you used to paint your backboard? did you mask all the sockets, remove, or just shoot it with old bulbs in there, etc?

When the lamp board is in good condition, as this one was, I am able to spray it, leaving the old bulbs in their sockets to protect the contacts.

#40 6 years ago

All under pf mechs cleaned, new sleeves, coil wraps. Flippers got new bushings, links, switches. Pops got new metal yokes.
Love my ultrasonic cleaner.

He waits until cure to polish. Otherwise, a waste of time. Buthamburg does a beautiful job. Highly recommended.

Mounting the major mechs, switches, etc, before bringing back the pf harness.

The pop bumpers got new bases, aprons, caps, lamp sockets, and clear bodies. Should look good with red LEDs inside.
