The 2017 Northwest Pinball and Arcade Show takes place June 9th - 11th at the Tacoma Convention Center in Washington State! The show features around 400 pinball and arcade machines from the 1950s to today, tournaments, world record high score attempts, vendors, seminars, guest speakers, raffles and prizes. This convention draws thousands of collectors, players and fans of classic coin-op games.

-This is our 10th show! Find out why so many people consider this one of the best shows in the world. Over 100 volunteers help put on this yearly non-profit show and it runs quite smoothly. For our 10th show we promise to be bigger and better than ever before!

-Hundreds and hundres games on freeplay the entire weekend, all 31 hours the show is running. Last year we had around 420 games, dude! None will be pulled from the floor before the show is over and you won't see a bunch of games turned off. We have a crack team of repair techs on the floor the entire show, less than 5% of the games are ever down at once. This is a show for games and fun, we expect you to come ready to play!

-Top speakers from the industry and lots of tech seminars. And don't worry if you can't make it to every seminar or talk, they will all be filmed, we stream all our seminars live and put them on the web later for viewing. Speakers and special guests include:

    Stevie Ritchie
    John Trudeau
    Mark Ritchie
    Greg Freres
    John Youssi
    Jersey Jack Guarnieri
    Butch Peel
    David Thiel
    Tim Kitzrow
Joe Balcer & Jolly (American Pinball)
    Dwight Sullivan

-Vendors galore! We draw the top vendors from around the States and Canada. Seattle has a massive pinball and arcade collecting community and lots of money, if you aren't vending at our show, you are missing out on promoting and selling your products to a large audience, nearly 4,000 people attend our show over the course of the 3-day weekend.

-2 hotels within a block of the venue! The Courtyard Marriott is the main hotel across the street and the Hotel Murano is 2 blocks away. Dozens of restaurants, microbreweries and bars within a few blocks of the venue, there are 2 local barcades as well.

-Half a dozen pinball tournaments, including womens, classics, kids, rookies and the main tournament. Seattle is one of the biggest tournament towns and the Pacific Northwest region is home to many of the world's top players, including Raymond Davidson, Robert Gagno, Germain Mariolle, Zoe Vrabel, Kevin Birrell, Dave Stewart and Julie Gray. We offer all types of tournament play from kids and rookies to playing against some of the top players in the world of competitive pinball.

-Raffles! We raffle off a full-sized pinball or arcade game every day of the show in our $1 raffle, along with tons of other great prizes and game related merch. Our $20 raffle is for a brand new title, generally the latest release, in 2016 it was a Ghostbusters LE.

-Lots more goes on, including arcade tournaments, world record high score attempts, a large Kid's Zone with children's games and learning opportunities, home brew and one-of-a kind pins and vids, rare prototypes and whitewoods, debuts of the latest Stern and Dutch Pinball games, etc.

Much more info to come over the coming months, but get the dates on your calendar now, you don't want to miss the action!

We are extremely happy to bring pinball legend Steve Ritchie back to our show to celebrate 10 years with us! He's been called The Master of Flow for the way shots on the games he designs feel and flow. Ritchie began his career in the 70s at Atari and became a superstar at Williams in the 80s and 90s with games like High Speed, F-14 Tomcat, Black Knight 2000, Terminator 2, The Getaway, Star Trek the Next Generation and No Fear. He was on the design team for the classic videogame Defender and did voice acting on a number of arcade games and pinball machines, including the Mortal Kombat series. Now a designer at Stern Pinball, Ritchie's resume includes some of the most popular newer pinball games like AC/DC, Star Trek, Spider-Man and Game of Thrones!

    Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

The same weekend as SFGE? Bummer.

Indeed a bummer, the Denver show is also the same weekend. I don't know who picked their date first, ours has been planned for that weekend since Summer. We are a much bigger show and it's our 10 year, sadly that may hurt the other shows in regard to vendors and speakers, but in reality it hurts all of our shows. Hopefully in 2018 we can all talk and plan better!

That sucks, I wanted to check it out.
    Next year

Bummer, this is going to be the year to go since it's our 10th year. We have more speaker announcements coming soon and some very cool game debuts and other stuff planned.

    Quoted from BorgDog:

Freakin sweet poster! Available to buy somewhere? would love to hang one on the wall in the pin room.

Just got the artwork. We will have 11x17 and large format posters at the show and will probably have them available online after. As well as tshirts and other merch. This is the year we need to get our online store going, we have a bunch of the older posters available and a lot of people have been asking about them.

    #27 2 years ago

I just moved and all my games are still broken down and wrapped up in my new garage. A friend was joking that they are all ready for the show early. I definitely plan on sending a bunch of games this year, I have 4 months to get them all dialed in great. We will be starting to host repair parties around Puget Sound next month too.

I live in Seattle and would love for it to be in the city proper, but there are no spaces we can do there now! The old space was too small and was rebuilt to be the new KEXP studios and live space, plus the hotels and parking in that area now cost a lot more than in Tacoma. People forget how much Seattle has grown, changed and become way more expensive and less car friendly since the old days of the Seattle Center show.

The Tacoma Convention Center is a killer space with good climate and lighting control, it's new and way bigger and nicer. And there is lots of free and cheap parking, multiple hotels, some great bars and breweries within walking distance, a 5 slot loading dock for our trucks with an additional ramp for self-delivery, etc. If you fly in, you can get there and checked into a hotel faster than you could at the old spot. The show will never be back in Seattle, there are no places that could host it now, if it moves again, it would likely end up at a place like the Everett Event Center and the commute from the airport would be twice as long. I get it, I live in Seattle and loved it there, but the city just doesn't have a location we could do it at.

FYI, from my home in Maple Leaf, it would take 40 minutes to drive and find $20 parking 8 blocks from the Seattle Center. It takes 45 to Tacoma and find free street parking 2 blocks from the venue. Just don't leave between 3-6pm on Thursday or Friday when traffic is bad, come down between 9am-3pm or after 6pm, then the drive ain't bad at all.

    #37 2 years ago

Here's a great Google map we put together of restaurants and bars around the Tacoma Convention Center:

    #44 2 years ago
    Quoted from dasvis:

Last time we were there the service was so slow we left & went up to the Rock pizza.
I was not impressed with the Swiss

I usually hit both some time during the weekend, the Harmon Brewery as well. I've had good service at the Swiss when there isn't live music going on, Friday and Saturday nights not so much, but for lunch or dinner, good bar type food and strong drinks.

My current favorite Tacoma places are about a 5-10 minute drive from the venue, The Valley and the Eleven Eleven. Both have great sandwiches, lots of beer on tap, and a good vibe. For beer lovers, the Red Hot on 6th has a massive line up and does a bunch of great hot dogs. Within walking distance across the freeway bridge down by the glass museum is a place on the water called Social that is a bit fancier, but has a great happy hour, we sit outside there in the sun by the water and boats and eat happy food and pitchers of Sangria.

    #47 2 years ago
    Quoted from Mahoyvan:

Is this typically a good show to pick up or sell a machine?

It's typically a great show to sell a machine at, but I personally think there are a lot more buyers than sellers. Seattle is a pretty wealthy town, there are tons of collectors here, so the vendors do extremely well at this show selling parts, and the 30-40 games that are for sale on the floor and on the Buy/Sell Bulletin Board in the lobby generally all sell. Lots of first time buyers come to this show. If you are looking to buy at the show, I'd follow the "Pacific Northwest Buyers/Sellers Thread" in the two months before the show, because a lot of deals are lined up by folks ahead of time so they know what games and parts to bring with them to the show.

    #49 2 years ago

This is the place I think more people should check out during the show, especially if the weather is nice again, because you can eat outside here: http://www.thesocialbarandgrill.com/

Their happy hour is 4-5pm and 10pm-close and features $10 pitchers of sangria as well as:
    Seaweed Salad | $6
Fried Garlic Rice Balls | $5
    Sautéed Mushrooms | $5
    Chicken Donburi Bowl | $6
    Ahi Wontons | $5
    Fried Calamari | $5
    Hood Canal Oysters
    Smoked | $6 Fried | $6
Ahi Tuna Poke* Served Raw | $7
    Tacos | $6
Roasted Chicken, Pork Belly or Brisket
    Blackened Rockfish Tacos | $7

The Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show is happy to partner with Emerald City Comicon again this year to do the classic arcade. If you are at ECCC over the next 4 days, be sure to stop by the arcade on the second level of the main Seattle Convention Center. There will be 16-18 pins and vids on freeplay, all donated by local collectors! The truck just left my house and is on it's way to pick up a pile of pins before heading down for set up. Thanks to all the volunteers for helping make this happen!!! We will be staffing the arcade the entire weekend talking to people about collecting, the hobby and our June show.

Things are starting to come together for this June's show. We are lining up our raffle prizes and games you can win and we are going to have some rad stuff! We will be giving away at least one pin or vid every day of the show. Including this...

    batman-prize (resized).jpg

    #79 1 year ago

It was pointed out to me that the flyer could easily be interpreted that all the games we are raffling off are brand new. They are not, the grand prize final raffle is a brand new Batman '66 Premium, the other games will be refurbished pinball and arcade games. I'll have a list of all the games and when they are being raffled off closer to the show date! It sounds like the vids with be an Outrun and an Arch Rivals and we will have one 90s era pin, but those details will get nailed down later.

    Quoted from cody_chunn:

Didn't this show used to give away a trip there? I was hoping this would be my year

Indeed we have for the previous 5 years, it's been a fun and meaningful experience for both the show and the winners, we've brought a bunch of people to our show for the first time and they've all had great experiences! I think Pinsiders have one the contest the last 2 or 3 years too. This year we decided to use that money to bring in extra speakers for our 10th anniversary show. The contest is rad, but it really just benefits one person, this year we figured that money could be better spent benefiting all of our attendees with a more awesome line up of most of the top designers and artists in the pinball industry.

    #89 1 year ago
    Quoted from pinwiztom:

    Hoping i would win
it would not cost the show much
to pay for my free ticket and travel to the show.
You could still have a contest for just free entry, (w/ no travel/hotel expenses)

Good news is we do a ton of contests for free entry! We are holding a bunch of satellite pinball tournaments where people win entries into the show and it's tournaments and then do ticket give-a-ways every year through radio and the press closer to the show, and on our social media as well. I'll post about them when they are happening, 2 or 3 pairs of passes will be given away through The Stranger in a random drawing in May.

We also have a budget and want to stay with in it. While we are a non-profit show and everyone that helps out on it does it totally for free, we raise money for college scholarships which we award each year during the show awards ceremony at the end.

    #93 1 year ago
    Quoted from dasvis:

Me too, would gladly bring a pin if I did not have to stay all three days.

That's fine, you probably wouldn't really want to haul a game up from Oregon, set it up for a day, and break it down the next to haul back home. That's a lot of work when you could be having fun

Pretty much the number one thing people like about our show is it's super well run and organized and we don't pull any games from the floor until it's over. That's a huge complaint about a couple of the other big shows, by Saturday afternoon 1/3rd to 1/2 of the games are gone or turned off. Our show is for playing pinball and arcade games, we want people coming any day of the show to get their fix and enjoy our hobby and collections. We will have 400+ games up and running when the doors open on Friday and thanks to our fantastic tech team, 99.5% of them will still be on the floor running when we shut down on Sunday. It's something we are proud of.

The NWPAS Satellite Pinball Tournament Series is your opportunity to win your way to the Northwest Pinball and Arcade Show June 9th-11th, 2017, at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center. The series has kicked off strong, we already have 21 different winners of packages after just three events, with many different skill levels represented!

If you're not ranked in the IFPA top 2000, you also get an entry into the Rookie & Amateur tournament on Sunday of the event. This is a $115+ value, and we give one package away for every 7 players at each tournament, and guarantee one of those packages to a player eligible for the Rookie & Amateur tournament.

There is also a WIN GUARANTEE! If you play in at least seven of the satellite tournaments and you don't win one of those $115 prize packages, we will still give you the weekend pass, a $65 value! While I don't know for sure yet because vendors are still coming on board, it's doubtful. Do you know of any vendor that sells it at shows? I'm under the impression none do. It would be cool if Marco starts to now that Stern has their own version, avoiding the shipping costs would definitely make it more doable for a lot of people, me included!

    Quoted from Humph:

No, I don't know of any vendors, but it's a topic of interest among Pinsiders to buy this kind of glass at a local show. Not sure why regular glass is always available (which I have bought at the Tacoma show before), but not the specialty glass.

I think the answer is regular tempered glass can be made locally and there are a few locals that have good glass shop hookups and get quantity discounts. PDI/Invidiglass isn't produced locally and have pretty tightly controlled retail outlets that only sell it online.

If anyone can find a hookup for buying it cheaper when you order quantity and combined shipping, I personally would volunteer to handle doing a bulk order. I did that for legs and leg bolts recently buying nearly 2K in parts for 20 people from Pinball Life and it worked out pretty smoothly, we all got cheaper parts because of the quantities and combined shipping. It was kind of a pain, but I'd do it again.

    Quoted from GSones:

Just moved to the Seattle area from Texas and the wife and I are excited to check out the Northwest Pinball Show for the first time. Looking forward to meeting all the new folks and having as much fun as we've had at TPF.

Welcome to town! There is a local list-serve called Washington Pinball Crazies you might want to join if you are interested in things like game repair parties or getting involved in the show in the future. A lot of the organizing type emails to the collector community go out through WPC and it's arcade counterpart SMAC. Pinball is huge here, as I'm sure you are finding out with how many barcades, tournaments, leagues, etc. there are.

This is a great map for local pinball too: https://pinballmap.com/seattle

Set up is all of Thursday 7am-10pm and last minute stuff can happen Friday 7am-11am before the show opens, tear down is Sunday after the show ends. If you volunteer 3 or more games and are within an hour of the venue, we can pick up your games, we rent a bunch of trucks and have volunteers that drive and pick up games, this works great for big collections.

And we need everyone's games! That's what makes the show happen. There are a bunch of incentives for bringing games, beyond helping put on the show:

    The incentives for self-transported games:
    1-2 Machines = 1 weekend pass, 5 $1 raffle tickets
    3-4 Machines = 2 weekend passes, 5 $1 raffle tickets
5-9 Machines = 4 weekend passes, a tshirt, 10 $1 raffle tickets, 1 $20 raffle ticket (New Stern Pinball Machine)
10+ Machines = We would like to know what you would like + a $50 gift certificate to any Show vendor!

The incentives for games we transport:
    3 Machines (minimum) = 1 weekend pass, 5 $1 raffle tickets
    4-7 Machines = 2 weekend passes, 10 $1 raffle tickets
    8-12 Machines = 4 weekend passes, a tshirt, 10 $1 raffle tickets
13+ Machines = We would like to know what you would like. + a $50 gift certificate to any Show vendor!

There is a form to volunteer games and an email address on the website for Toby, who handles the game lists. There are a lot more details that go out if you've volunteered games closer to the show to give advice and answer questions. But if you have any specific onces, also feel free to ask them here. While I mostly do promotions and sponsorships for the show, I've brought my games for the past 10 years and help with set up and break down, so I'm familiar with the whole process.

    #129 1 year ago

Oh, I don't think either of the deadlines for show transported games or self-transported games has come out yet, but usually show transported games have a deadline of 3-4 weeks before the show so they can figure out all the routes. Self-transported games if you just want to bring a few or handle your own truck/trailer really can be volunteered up until a couple days before the show. Although it's nice to know the games earlier, people pour over the online game list looking for what games will be there. And we are trying to layout the Steve Ritchie games together this year to have a "Ritchie Row."

    #132 1 year ago
    Quoted from Mbecker:

I'll should be headed from sodo to northgate with one of the trucks Wednesday as well if it works to swing by for a quick pickup of one or two games

Which reminds me, I need to bring you back the show dolly, blankets and straps Mike!

We're still early in the Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show Satellite Series, but don't wait to start participating, so that you can take advantage of our Win Guarantee! Take multiple shots in different events to win an NWPAS package that includes the weekend pass and entries into tournaments. But our guarantee is that if you play in 7 or more events of the series, and you don't win a package, we'll still GIVE you the weekend pass! And with 9 events remaining, still plenty of time to earn your way to the show even if you've yet to play one.

So come by 8-bit in Rentorn tomorrow, then The Goat on Greenwood on Sunday as our next two events!

32 teams, 64 players in all, took part in the Phinney Ridge Meet: NWPAS Satellite Doubles Tournament this weekend in what was more of a party than a competitive atmosphere. Congratulations to brothers Mark and Paul Williams for their victory, the father-daughter team of Stephen and Chelsea Rakonza with their 2nd place finish, as well as all the other winners of packages to the 2017 Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show!, including Brett Wolfe, Sean De Tore. Maureen Hendrix, Heather Loudon, Neil Kubath and Nigel Colbert. Many thanks to the awesome hosts tonight, the staff of The Goat on Greenwood for their great hospitality and coming up with enough raffle prizes so that everyone in the tourney walked away with something!

Next stop in our tournament series is Add-a-Ball Amusements Bar & Arcade on Thursday for the Babes in Pinland NWPAS Satellite Tournament (for women only), then open to all Skill Shot presents: Belltown Brawl on Sunday at Shorty's, as we quickly cross the half-way point of the NWPAS Pinball Tournaments Satellite series!

Any chance of getting an Mario kart arcade game for the show?

I don't know of anyone local that has one. The game list is pretty much at the mercy of local collectors and what they volunteer to bring or have us pick up and then the vendors and pinball and arcade companies for the newest games. For new arcade games I think we are going to have that new giant Space Invaders Frenzy that Raw Thrills just put out and a couple of the Pac Man 4 players, along with hundreds of classic arcade games. But I can ask around and see if anyone has a Mario Kart they'd bring!

    #144 1 year ago

Jjp should bring dialed in I would think.. prob will be crazy busy though

While I haven't heard official word on it, I'm sure Jersey Jack will have a Dialed In at the show since he, Butch and David Thiel will be speaking and he always gets his latest games to our show... WOZ's first public appearance was debuting here, we snuck it in under a blanket to keep everyone in the dark.

It's starting to get down to the wire and we need more pinball games for the Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show next month! It's the 10th year of this non-profit, volunteer run show, we have a killer line up of new pinball titles and speakers, but we need more pins from the 70s-2000s. If you've been on the fence about donating games or can add a few more to what you are already bringing, that would be awesome!

Speakers and guests next month will include Dwight Sullivan, Stevie Ritchie, John Trudeau, Mark Ritchie, Greg Freres, John Youssi, Jersey Jack Guarnieri, Butch Peel, Tim Kitzrow, David Thiel, and Joe Balcer and Jolly from the new American Pinball.

We will have all the latest Stern games, along with the Houdini, Alien, two Dialed Ins and many more! But we really need your games too! Volunteering your games is a great way to promote the hobby we all love and help the non-profit show succeed and showcase pinball and arcade games to the public, as well as to the collecting community. There are tons of incentives for bringing games on top of that. Volunteer your games today at: http://www.nwpinballshow.com/volunteer/games

Or email Toby with the details directly at: 72douchebag@gmail.com

If you are donating 3 or more games and live within our transportation zone, we can have a truck pick up the games at your house and deliver them back for you. Thanks!!!

    #156 1 year ago
    Quoted from HighVoltage:

What is the pinball count? What is the top pinball count from previous years? We definitely need to break the pin record for the 10th anniversary!
If anyone in the north-of-Seattle area (Edmonds, Lynnwood, Everett, etc) has one or two machines they need help with getting to the show, get in touch. I can stage at my place the week prior to the show and the show transport truck will stop at my place to pick up.

Awesome offer, I can stage games at my house in Ballard too. Current game count is:
    186 pinball machines
    130 stand up arcade games
    19 sitdown/cockpit games
    8 cocktail games
8 other (kid's zone redemption games)
    6 countertop games
    3 shooter games
    2 EM arcade games
    1 dancing (DDR)

363 total right now. The deadline for games the show transports is Friday, I'd expect a jump in the list then. And then self-transport games will continue to trickle in until the show weekend. I'm pretty confident we will break the 400 game mark, which is always what we aim to be around.

All games will remain on the floor for the entire show, no games will be pulled early if sold! All games will be on free play and accessible the entire weekend with the exception of the pinball games in the tournament, which are listed separately on our website.

    Quoted from BorgDog:

I'm curious as to why Golden Arrow always shows up first on the list on the site and here? Surely something I messed up when I entered it (yes, it's mine).

Ha, me too! There is probably a space before the G. I can bug the database guy to look at it.

    #163 1 year ago
    Quoted from Beyndtstng:

Will there be a chance to play these after the tournament ends or does that coincide with the ending of the show?

The tournaments run the entire show with qualifying rounds and 5 separate tournaments. The finals generally run right up until the show ends. That's why we separate them out and say they are only available for tournament play.

Honestly, tournament games are set up really tough, they pull parts, increase the tilt sensitivity and change the settings to make ball times shorter--for the average player, they aren't as much fun to play. But if you really want to play them, you could enter in one of the tournaments

    #167 1 year ago
    Quoted from Lysurgeon:

Such a bummer that the only seawitch is in the tourney bank two years in a row...

I feel like 2 years ago it was on the floor. But yeah, most of the games in the tournaments are owned by tournament volunteers and players, they bring their own games, do their own set up and run that part of the show themselves. I can put a request in next year to rotate the titles out, specifically Seawitch

    #168 1 year ago
    Quoted from Beyndtstng:

Yea I only get to about 5 shows a year so the thought of spending a good portion of my time watching others play doesn't appeal to me. I would love the difficulty settings though. I really enjoyed Pinburgh because they opened the tournament games up on Saturday night. Looking forward to what see what additional games get added to the main floor. My friend and I love shooter games, will there be some of those there as well?

The full game list is here: http://www.nwpinballshow.com/games

It's increasing daily, it's gone up 100 games over the past few days as we approach Friday's transportation deadline (the show rents trucks and volunteers pick up games at collectors houses if they will send 3 or more games). So far the shooters look like:
    1959 Williams Crusader
    1976 Clay Champ (Allied Leisure)
    Gaia Crusaders (Noise Factory)
    Police Trainer (P&P Marketing)

There usually are some more self-transported EM shooters that get added later and some House of the Dead and Silent Scopes. I think we are going to have that new Space Invaders Frenzy game too. I used to own the Clay Champ, man is that a massive cabinet to move around.

    Quoted from yuriijos:

Why do you all have to run this the same weekend as the RMPS in Denver? Because of this we get no guest speakers, no cool appearances, etc. Sucks.

We definitely should co-ordinate better next year, Southern Fried is the same weekend as well. We normally do our show a weekend earlier, but our venue was booked. And yeah, since we are the biggest show of the three and it's our 10th year, we got most of the speakers and new game debuts. But we want to work with all the shows, help the up and coming ones, and keep this type date conflict from happening in the future. We all have the same mission to promote the hobby, so let's coordinate better next year!

    #176 1 year ago

We hit our goal of 400 games! The Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show board would like to give a huge thanks to everyone that have volunteered their games for this year's show!!

    #177 1 year ago

It seems we have filled up the two main hotels we use for the show adjacent to the Tacoma Convention Center. If anyone is still looking to book a room for the show weekend, we have lined up a deal at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, which is about 5 blocks away from the venue. They've made the block for standard rooms with the 15% discount, the discount code is NWP to and you have until May 26th to use the code and receive the discount.

    #187 1 year ago

Wow, I've never seen it broken down like that! I think it's a little higher than last year, maybe by 30-40 pins?

Yes, there will be more added like WOZ and a few more. I don't think Pinball Bulbs games are listed yet. And the coming soon I think are placeholders for games that haven't yet been listed but needed to meet the transportation deadline. Also crossing our fingers on the new Ritchie game, I know they'd love to have it finished in time to have it here since Steve will be here.

There will be minor additions and changes to the game list happening right up until the show, but it's probably 90-95% set right now.

    Dang, no skateball this year!

I dare someone to kiss all the speakers, get it in pictures and post theM, afterwards.

There will be lots of pictures posted and all their talks will be streamed live and put up on YouTube later. But I think your dare is taking it a little bit too far...

    Quoted from Lysurgeon:

Im pretty sure it was James's.

That's what I was thinking. James is out of town this year, so less or none of his games are coming, depending if he ended up staging some. I'm sure it will be back next year if we bug him. I want to play his Catacomb again too!

    Quoted from jrivelli:

A quick note to vendors, especially new ones, make sure to collect WA state sales tax! We totally forgot last year and the show submitted our info to the state so we got a letter reminder. Sucked because we forgot to collect tax and ended up paying an extra 10% of sales out of pocket.

Oooh, good tip. I'm going to get Holly to let all the vendors know, that should be in the info they get from the show. Thanks! The state is pretty tough on conventions, they ask for a lot of paperwork and who each vendor is up front, they always want their taxes and fees.

    #208 1 year ago
    Quoted from JoinTheCirqus:

Yep, that's the correct question. I believe the Northwest show booked their date over a year in advance.

Eh, we are partly to blame, we normally do our show one weekend earlier, but the venue was booked. But we announced this date about a year ago, I don't know when Southern Fried and Colorado picked theirs. Next year we will be the first weekend in June, so other shows can plan accordingly if they want to avoid doing it the same weekend. No one wants shows to compete for games and speakers, we want all the shows to be successful and fun!

    Quoted from hawkmoon:

At PAGG this year,Alien lasted about 6 hours on the floor! Houdini was put on 2 balls only! No four player games>It didn't hold up either! When folks saw their photos put up on Dialed in,mixed reaction! The new AFM was way cool! Full Throttle was there for one day only, couldn't get close to it! Same for the Rob Zombies Spookshow! ! Day!Have fun! Get there early!!

I think with new games that are prototypes, people should expect a few problems like that. Still, people flock to shows to see and play new games, often with the intention of trying them out before buying one once it's under production.

Luckily there will be 400 other games to play if the protos have problems. One of the big selling points of the Northwest show is we have an excellent tech team that repairs games throughout the show, we never have more than a handful of games down. We also don't allow people to pull games from the floor early, which is a major complaint about some other shows. If you show up for just a few hours Sunday afternoon, the game floor will still be packed with 400 working games and all the vendors. Cheers and keep flippin'!

    #220 1 year ago

Yes, online tickets just closed so they can build the registration database, but tickets will be available at the door at the same prices for both daily and weekend passes. The show never sells out, although it get pretty packed Saturday afternoons.

SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT! We have a late edition, Joe Balcer and Jolly from American Pinball will talking at 11am on Saturday about game design, development, how American got a working Houdini prototype done in 4 months time, it's current status, American's future plans and will take questions from the audience. Along with designing Houdini, Joe Balcer was also a pinball designer for The Simpson’s Pinball Party, Apollo 13, South Park, Star Wars Trilogy and Starship Troopers.

Right. Looking forward to going for our 5th time. Just wondering what time they'll be set up Friday morning. I like to get in when the doors open.

Doors open at noon on Friday! Yeah, I agree, the first couple hours on Friday are a great time to hit the show, after the initial rush to get in, the hall is actually pretty empty, it's a great time to get a game in on the new stuff like Dialed In, Alien, Houdini, Batman 66 and Aerosmith before the crowds all come.

Are you volunteering your games for this year's show? It's time to start getting them ready. We are once again providing transportation for the folks who need it, and as a reminder, the group really appreciates any games which can be self transported. We have a huge number of games being transported which means that we need everyone's help to make sure we can move the games as quickly, efficiently, and safely as possible.

If you are self-transporting, please review the instructions in this message as well - your assistance will keep the machines flowing smoothly into and out the convention center.

On a related note, if anyone can self-transport any of their games home on Sunday, that would make things easier for the transportation folks. If you can self-transport your games (one or all) home on Sunday, please send a message to Patty Okert and I with the name(s) of which machines you can take.

We have a few steps we need folks to follow when preparing machines for pickup.

    Game Preparation:
    • Pinball games must be broken down, including removing the legs, and securing the head to the cabinet (if possible). Pinballs must be removed from the machine, placed in a Ziploc bag along with leg bolts, backbox bolts, and the keys. The bag must be taped or shrink wrapped to the legs. All 4 legs must be shrink wrapped or taped together, and labeled with the machine and owner name.
    • Arcade games must have the keys attached to the game. Many folks close a Ziploc baggie in the coin door and then seal the key in the portion of the baggie that is outside the door. Others have zip-tied the keys to the joystick. Please do NOT leave the keys in the locks.
    • We are requesting that all games are wrapped with shrink wrap (wide/heavy plastic wrap available at Costco Home Centers and other locations). Even if you are not worried about the possibility of a minor scuff or scratch, the drivers will be more comfortable if the game is protected and will be able to move games a little quicker.
    • On the back of the game, please attach a label with your name and the machine name so that it can easily be identified and returned to you on the correct truck. Blue painters tape or an 8.5" x 11" paper with large writing can work well for labeling your machines.
    • Arcade - Place label near the top on the back of the game.
    • Pinball - Place label on the underside of the cabinet or near the front of the machine so it is visible when the machine is stood up on it's back.
    • Safety check – Please make sure your machine is grounded and nobody can get shocked from playing it (this has been a problem in years past). Refer to some safety tips here: https://docs.google.com/…/1vSuo8vNIjvI_toN3whY_muC8BzpXIRK4… . Note the document refers to arcades, the same info applies to pinballs
    • Please have your machine where it is easiest for us to pick up. That means a ground floor room or garage. We may not be able to do the pickup if you have a stairs or a steep incline to deal with. We will not pick up machines from an upstairs location without prior arrangements being made.

    Pickup/Dropoff site preparation:
    • Please make sure that the pathway from the games to the truck is clear and accessible prior to pickup and delivery.
    • The area where the truck will park and load/unload games should be easily accessible - please move vehicles out of the way so the truck can park.
    • When the truck arrives, please meet the driver and point out any obstacles such as low tree branches, soft ground, or other things that the driver should avoid.
    • Please be prepared to assist with the loading/unloading of your games as much as possible. The drivers are moving dozens of games each and a little help will make their jobs easier.

Proper preparation will speed the loading/unloading of your games and make the stop go as quickly and safely as possible.
We want to be as flexible as possible but with the number of machines being transported, we will not be able to transport machines that are not prepared for pickup. If you cannot prep your machines or have them available in an easy to access location, please let us know so we can find someone to help you get them set up.

Please make yourselves available all day Thursday June 8th for the pickup, and all afternoon/evening Sunday for the return delivery. The driver for your pickup route will contact you to schedule the pickup and deliveries for your machines. Pickups will be made on Thursday with the last routes scheduled such that the trucks can be unloaded by 5 pm. Deliveries back will begin Sunday, June 5th after 4 PM and will go late into the evening so please be patient. There may be a few instances where we pick up your games on Wednesday and return them on Monday, but you will be contacted if you are in one of those categories.

    For self-transportation:
    • IMPORTANT >>> You may bring your games to the convention center loading dock Thursday, June 8th, between the hours of 8am and 8pm. The fifth floor dock will be available Thursday from 8am-8:00 pm on Thursday, 8am-10am Friday, and all afternoon on Sunday.

*We encourage folks to set up and break down their own machines whenever possible*

    • The convention center is located at: 1500 Broadway, Tacoma, WA 98402
    • Driving, parking and transit directions are here: http://www.gtctc.org/attend-overview/directions-parking
    • The 5th floor loading dock is located on the west side of the convention center on Market street. If you follow the directions listed in the link provided above, then the entrance to the loading dock area is through a sliding gate that will be on your left (East) side if you are traveling South on Market street towards S 17th Street. If you reach 17th street you have passed the lot and need to circle back around.
    • When it comes time to pick up your games on Sunday, please do not bring your vehicle into the loading dock area until AFTER the first group of trucks have been loaded and are out on their route. Plan on starting to load your vehicle no sooner than 4:30 pm. Again, check with a member of the load-out crew to make sure that the area is clear of trucks before you bring your vehicle into the area and start loading. The game show trucks will be working until late at night, and everyone will get done sooner if the trucks receive FIRST PRIORITY for loading and unloading. We thank you greatly for your cooperation during these times and appreciate any help you can provide with preparing other games for transportation home while you are waiting.

These are the default directions, however there are always exceptions or special cases, please let us know what we can do to accommodate any needs. We would like to thank everyone for providing their games, without you we wouldn't have a show! If you have any questions, please contact one of the following folks from the transportation committee:
    Toby Udman: 72douchebag@gmail.com, 425-314-5192
    Patty Okert, sdhbic@comcast.net, 425-876-0423

    Quoted from BorgDog:

First time donating so a couple of simple questions...
Just for clarification leave the pinball legs with key/bolt/ball baggie separate from the machine, not shrink wrapped to the machine itself?

Correct. Unless you can shrinkwrap them in a way to the machine that they won't poke other games in transport or come loose. I do a separate shrinkwrapped bundle of legs, balls, keys and bolts, then label it with painter's tape with the game name. I think that's how most people do it now, it took us a few years to get it down to a good system.

    Quoted from BorgDog:

Also on em and early ss pinballs where the head is not hinged is it OK to leave wires attached and lay the head on the cabinet shrink wrapped in place against the neck so it can't slide down? I have transported them that way but wanted to make sure that's cool with you guys. And is that how you would be packing back up to return. Thanks, looking forward to the fun. Dan

Yup, that's how I'd do them. I use a rachet strap with some cardboard so the head won't move at all, then shrink wrap it. But you can get away without the strap if you use enough shrink wrap and get it tight. I can't imagine undoing on the connectors, that's gonna take to long to break down and set up.

These are cut and paste general instructions we've been using for years and I think mainly aimed at people that haven't transported a lot of games before, sounds like you know what you are doing

The Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show set up starts this Thursday! The two places we still need more volunteers are:

-Thursday morning starting at 7:30am helping unload trucks and moving the games into the hall. It's hard to find enough people to help with unloading the first load, are you available?

-Sunday afternoon from 3pm-6pm, helping break down pins, wrap games, and get the first load or two of trucks out the door.

If everyone can even stick around for just an hour after the show to break down and pack your own games or help with the games going on the first load out, that helps enormously!

I know a lot of you just show up to help with load in and load out, that's what I do, but if you officially sign up, you can also earn volunteer swag: http://games.nwpinballshow.com/Volunteer

Going to miss the show second year in a row. Last year a few days before show some idiot hit me on my motorcycle in a roundabout and hurt me bad. Fast forward this year, Tuesday of this week I fell off a ladder and broke my foot. I hope everyone has a great time I envy you guys. Maybe next year.

Wow, what bad luck! I think I'd still come with a broken foot if I could roll around on one of those little knee carts with a cast or boot on.

    Quoted from Pinplayer1967:

I thought about that but the thought of someone bumping into it makes me cringe.

Yeah, I'm sure you are still in the pain stage. A few weeks out you will be in less pain and antsy to get out of the house and do stuff.

Please tell me one of those boxes has a Star Wars pin in it...

I can tell you that the Marco booth with have 17 brand new Stern production pins on freeplay the entire show, including two of the newly announced AD/DC Vault Editions. But as of last week, it didn't sound like they had a Star Wars prototype ready in time to bring one to the show.

Chris and Ed just picked up my games for the Northwest Pinball & Arcade Show this weekend. I rolled them down to the street for a quick and easy pick up, then popped open a beer and waited for about 15 minutes for the truck to arrive. In those 15 minutes about 50 cars and trucks slowed way down to check out the games, 2 people took photos, 3 people asked if they were for sale, and I ended up meeting one of my neighbors who also moved into the neighborhood in January. It turns out his friend collects arcade games and is going to the show, I gave him a flyer and I think talked him into coming with his 3 year old daughter, who was playing Ms Pacman with no power while we talked and loving it. Load in with Chris and Ed went easy and it's the first time I'd met Ed, so we got to rap a little, Chris I've known since the 90s punk and garage rock scene but have re-connected with in the past year over collecting pinball games. So awesome, I love the community the helps put on the show and I love exposing my neighbors to my hobby when I let my games go out in the wild!

    Quoted from Borygard:

That's really too bad, with Steve, Dwight, and Jerry, all present and doing seminars, would have been perfect to show off the game.

Agreed. And then there is always that thing where they say it isn't going to happen and then Friday night of the show I get asked to help sneak a game in under a blanket and it's the top secret show debut of a new game. Which has happened at our show with Wizard of Oz, Magic Girl and a few others. People like to do big stealth reveals at the Northwest show, so you never know.

    #282 1 year ago
    Quoted from Beyndtstng:

This would be epic. My friend and I are really looking forward to attending. We were told this was a bucket list show to attend.

This year especially since it's the 10th year. Seriously, you saw the speaker line up right? Has there ever been a show with a more epic speaker lineup? Everyone in the pinball industry is going to be in Washington this weekend.

    #285 1 year ago
    Quoted from Beyndtstng:

Yea not sure how you pulled it off. We'll make sure to buy you a drink if we can find you this weekend.
I think I asked this earlier but I cannot seem to locate it. Any good pizza or bar food (nachos, burgers, wings) places close to the convention center that you would recommmend?

In the far right tab on the show website, there is a drop down menu with Restaurants on it that pulls up a nice Google map with a bunch and links to their Yelp reviews. My personal favorite places:

    1. The Swiss - 2-3 blocks from the venue. Old school Tacoma bar with liquor, good beer selection, good pub grub, big space. Sometimes have bands and cover Friday and Saturday night, lots of people hit this place for lunch and dinner.

    2. The Harmon Brewery - 3 blocks from the venue. Local craft brew chain, higher end pub food and lots of good beers. Another popular place.

    3. Rock Wood Fired Pizza - 3 blocks from the veneu. Cheesy rock'n'roll theme on everything, crazy drinks in buckets with shovels (I saw Todd MacCulloch put down two and he was pretty drunky funny), their own microbrews, pretty decent pizza.

    4. Social - 5-10 minute walk over the freeway skybridge towards the water. Fancier, but they have a kick as happy hour food menu and pitchers of Sangria.

    5. Dorky's Barcade - It's a good 15 minute walk or quick Lyft/Uber. Big barcade and food.

    6. Eleven Eleven - Old school dive bar with killer sandwiches and a bit of a punk and metal feel to it. Strong drinks. About a 5 minute drive.

    7. The Red Hot - Best beer selection in town for craft beers, especially smaller Northwest breweries. A bunch of good and weird fancy hot dogs. My buddies own this place, it's pretty popular. About a 10 minute drive.

    8. The Triple Knock - Pinball bar! Right near the Red Hot. Lots of restaurants and bars in this area on 6th.

    9. The Valley - Sports bar with great food specials and strong drinks. About a 10 minute drive. They have some crazy bucket of clams deal.

There are a ton more places, these are the ones I know and like. I'd love to hear other people's recommendations!

Oh, I found a pretty good coffee, breakfast and sandwich place kitty corner the Marriot on the side opposite the Convention Center last year. I got breakfast and coffee there each morning.

Here is our crew from the very first show we did in 2008 at the Seattle Center 10 years ago! We've come a long way and have a much bigger crew these days!

    Quoted from Pdxmonkey:

    Liquor is everywhere in WA
    Even at grocery stores.
No beverages allowed outside of this food drink area, alcoholic or non.
FYI show "food" is not good, but decent food within walking distance

It's a pretty professionally run Convention Center, which means no outside booze. There is beer and wine and pretty bad cafeteria type food. I highly recommend booze in your hotel room and drinking at The Swiss and Harmon Brewery if you want to get your drink on between gaming.

Set up is going well, the hall is getting filled with games, most the vendors have arrived, I just played my first games of Dialed In and liked it a lot. Tomorrow is gonna rock.

So Larry from Starship Fantasy had his RV catch on fire and get destroyed on his drive here. His trailer of stuff and he and his dog are safe and they were able to rent a truck to get his merch here and we could set him up in a room, but he would love clothes (socks, XL shirts, L underwear) and basic stuff like a toothbrush and toothpaste if anyone is feeling generous to help him out when they come Friday. He lost everything in his RV. Crazy. Buy lots of stuff from him, let's help him out!

Oh man is my body tired and sore today from break down and loading games. Unloaded my games from one of the trucks around 11:30pm last night and they had to head back down to Tacoma for one last load, those guys worked hard and late! Three of my six games had problems during the show, with help all three were pretty quickly fixed and running again.

It was a really good show, very little drama, massive turn out, not as much break downs as usual and almost everything that broke was fixed by our volunteer tech team rather quickly. With 400 games, I think only a dozen were down at the end of the show, and the show was packed until closing time with people on almost every one of those games. The speakers were great, we had awesome vendors and sponsors, there were so many rad new games and such a depth and variety of games in general.

Thanks so much everyone that attended, volunteered games, volunteered time, and especially those of you that helped with set up, tear down and transportation... I know your bodies are hurting today.

Is the show going to be at the Tacoma Convention Center next year? Last I heard the lease was up and renewing it would be too expensive. Just curious!

Yes, I think we are one year in on a new contract, but I don't think costs went up with the venue this year.

    Quoted from Darscot:

Was a great show as always. I wish there was more for sale but the market is what it is, you see far more wanted ads than for sale.

Interesting, every time I looked at the for sale board in the lobby there were more for sale ads than want ads. I thought there seemed like a lot of games for sale this year, along with a lot of deals lined up ahead of time via Pinside and FB groups.

    #375 1 year ago
    Quoted from Darscot:

I just meant in general, I didn't even know about the board in the lobby
I only saw two games on the floor with For Sale on them, but I only went Sunday maybe others had sold.
Also obviously there is nothing the show can do about what is for sale, just went down hoping to find something.

Oh for sure, it's just up to what people bring, but the for sale board was packed with like 20 for sale listings on Friday and a bunch of games said they were for sale, the Rich Bros had half a dozen for sale, and people had been posting about games for sale here and on the FB groups NW Pinball Classifieds and West Coast Pinball Collectors. I feel like there were 30-40 pins that changed hands this weekend. I think maybe we need a more centralized way to get the word out, maybe a for sale forum on the website, which we are just about to revamp.

For those that missed it - here's a quick video of the developer playing the homebrew pin2k. Hard to see everything, certainly better in person. If he keeps working on it this year it should be playing pretty good if he brings it next time I imagine.
    » YouTube video

I really like seeing the homebrew projects come along. The pot pin was fully developed with artwork that we saw as whitewoods before. I'm excited to see what the rollerderby and steam punk ones look like next year.

Also, the two homebrewed vids, the Asteroids Deluxe one and the Helio Sequence one, were surprisingly good!

    Quoted from kahlerm:

How about having a future swap meet / flea market like at the allentown show? Might be difficult due to the downtown location vs. the fairground setting at Allentown.

This has come up quite a few times. The basics:
-We'd love to have one if someone wants to volunteer to organize and run it
-It can't be onsite at the Convention Center, all vendors have to be registered, all sales taxed
-So it would need to be in a nearby parking lot or someplace that could be rented cheaply, which there might be, like maybe the $1 all day parking lot about 2 blocks uphill from the Convention Center

If anyone wants to take this on investigating it and running it, the show would be open to it. But no existing volunteers have the bandwidth to add that much work on top of what they are already doing.
