This hobby needs an annual award program to recognize the people and the work of pinball culture, voted on by the community. These awards will set the standard and help elevate the voice of the community (into one) in recognizing the exceptional achievments of the recipients and their commitment to pinball.

    The Award categories are:

    Best Pinball Machine
    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinheads-choice-2016-best-pinball-machine-vote
    Best Pinball Design
    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinheads-choice-2016-best-design-vote#post-3515038
    Best Software/Rules
    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinheads-choice-2016-best-softwarerules-vote#post-3515115
    Best Sound
    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinheads-choice-2016-best-sound-vote
    Best Artwork
    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinheads-choice-2016-best-artwork-vote#post-3515694
Best Product Quality & Customer Satisfaction
    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinheads-choice-2016-best-product-quality-cs-vote#post-3515776
    Best Pinball Company
    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinheads-choice-2016-best-pinball-company-vote#post-3515962

    Best Aftermarket Mod
    Best Pinball Parts Supplier
    Best Pinball Distributor

I will set up a new thread per each category to list nominees and a voters poll for complete transparency in results.

    What could help:

    1. Anyone interested in designing a logo for the Pinhead Choice Awards? It helps create an identity and allows the award winners a logo to display on their site supporting the achievement recognized by the industry. *This would be a donation. I'm not funding the awards or attempting to make money, just trying to make this fun and bring a solid "one voice" to the community.*

    2. Pinball Magazine - would be great to see you guys support and run award winners in an article to add credibility to community voice.

The community should determine who can claim to be the "leading ....(i.e. pinball company)" not company marketing organizations. Just like JD Powers awards for quality and the Academy Awards for achievements - people take notice of who won awards. It's time we recognize the hard work and achievements in pinball and set the bar for recognition - objectively.

Please nominate the best aftermarket mod. There are so many I need to cut down list to top 5

    #3 7 years ago

    Don't forget to vote.

    Thanks solarvalue!

Good thought. I was trying to keep the focus of this years awards more on achievements. Then expand next year to some additional categories.

Thanks. I totally agree. I'd like to see the community rally around the idea. One voice = people start paying attention.

I changed it a little so the flipper and ball in the circle looked more like a checkbox. Use whichever you like.

Id totally do a logo for this but my motherboard fried and im not at work until tuesday. I see it more like a plunger with a silver ball the spring being the body and the ball being the head.

Go for it. Voting will be open for a week. Nice to have options.

Very rough sketch but the idea woukd be to get the plunger and plunger unit to feel like a head and shoulders. Ring around would position the category and this could actually be made of metal if it were translated to actual physical award

I bet ULEK can do some trophies for you

    #13 7 years ago

Nice! I like the ability to transition it to a physical award.

Pending voting participation, I'm considering sending a letter and trophy to the winners. Really want this to become an annual industry staple.

    #14 7 years ago

I'd like to nominate myself as the best aftermarket mod.

    #15 7 years ago

    cool idea

Sadly, you don't light up. I take that back - insert beer here. You qualify!!

In sincerity, I can see a Best Pinball Podcast category in the future. There's a few podcasts now - seems only right to acknowledge the hard work there too.

what about categories for Community Members who contribute to the market?

Vid would always win dhould just give him and roger sharp a lifetime achievement award

    #19 7 years ago

I'm not a big fan of superfluous awards to stroke people's ego.

I do like voting on things though.

    #20 7 years ago

ohh... there's already a ton of stroken' going on here. don't think this will make any changes in those waves.

There could be an awards ceremony at Expo or Texas. Steve Richie always wears black clothes anyway, so a tuxedo should meet his dress code.

    #24 7 years ago

BYOAC had a user's choice award thing for while. Turned into a gold stars for everyone thing after a couple years.

I agree! There's a ton of helpful people around here that I'd love to nominate.

    #26 7 years ago

how about a category for "Customer Service".
This is different than satisfaction or quality.
This is about how the company handles bad/tough situations.

    #27 7 years ago

I think MezelMods should be one of the AfterMarket top five.

    #28 7 years ago

I second that, but would also like to add Zitt simply for his awesomely well built early solid state buttons, housings, and clear straps.

They have beautified all my classic machines and work flawlessly.

    #29 7 years ago

    NimblePin ... thanks.
Glad someone thinks they are awesome as I do. I was just tired of no one cracking that market as I've wanted Clear buttons for as long as I've owned a early solidstate machine.

    #30 7 years ago

No worries man, you do great work!
Mirror Universe is a testament to that as well!
My Zitt haul from 15' Expo.
    Worth every penny!

I like the idea of looking a these categories. However, I would have like to see something celebrating the community and what the community does. This seems very much geared to celebrating the current industry. That really only represents a small portion of all pinball and users on Pinside.

I could see this as a range of categories, but would really like a 'Pinside Award' to be about 'Pinside' with categories and nominations that focus on threads, users, specific contributions, growth, homebrew, etc.

Maybe we can poll and establish some community categories and put them all into a single award spectacular so we don't end up with an Emmy's vs golden globes situation.

    yup

That's all WAY too much. I like the simplicity of it with a few more as suggested in one of the early replies.
I think if it gets to nominating 50 pinsiders for this and that you're gonna create some bruised egos.

    #34 7 years ago

OK,lets see the list of winners!!!

    #35 7 years ago

how about "biggest loser" award ? jpoop, skitb

    #36 7 years ago

    #38 7 years ago

I think https://www.playfield-protectors.com deserves a nomination for best aftermarket product due to it not only being an awesome product that I hope to use on many of my games but for also being so vocal and helpful here on pinside

Sorry all, got pretty sick with flue then back to back colds. I've been sick since December!! Finally healed!

Monday at midnight the votes will be tallied and winners announced! Last chance to vote and have your voice heard. Some are awards are very close.

After-market mods will be the only category with an extension. I dropped the ball on that one, waiting for nominee selections. More to come on that one.
