Quoted from labnip:do we have to print & mail our Expo attendance registration in with a check, or is there some online payment possible ?
Is there a reason to not do it when you get there? Last year I did it when I arrived and there was no hassle. If I remember the website right I think you're right and you have to print and mail with check if you want to register early.
"Pinball, Politics, Porn" That looks like an interesting seminar.
I like how the flyer reads for the Ghostbusters design team "Zombie Eddie".
Quoted from cards25:As far as I know, they will sign anything you give them. Hoping Borg is there, going to have him sign something off my MET and maybe IM.
There's not a list of who's going to be there though is there?
Quoted from KingBW:Signing list is ...
Greg Freres.
Pat Lawlor.
Margaret Hudson
John Trudeau
Paul Faris
Doug Watson
Wayne Neyens
Jim Patla
Dennis Nordman
Greg Kmiec
Dave Christiansen
Ray Tanzer
Steve Ritchie
John Popadiuk
It would be nice to know all of what these guys did.
Wow, Margaret Hudson. I was just looking up the artist of my City Slicker, Pat McMahon, and he seemed to be a frequent collaborator with Margaret.
I need to get Paul Faris and John Trudeau to sign my Vacation America.
Quoted from dmarston:Advance registration gets you a "real" nametag, saves you some money, and speeds up the registration line.
.................David Marston
I saw that. It makes sense if you're coming for all five days. I just went one day last year so registering when I got there worked for me.
Quoted from Gryszzz:Just joshin ya Jake...still have room. Headed up early Thurs-Sun.
Yep I'm only going Saturday but may bring my BSD to show off.
Is there a list of who's coming to the autograph session? I might bring some stuff if I know who's going to be there.
Quoted from KingBW:Yuk ... going to be driving through downtown Chicago during rush hour.
Maybe you should just hang out somewhere till it's passed. Rush hour in Chicago suuuuuuucks.
Quoted from KingBW:Yay ... not going to rush my wife out the door this trip ... in no hurry for that. Was going to try to get there as soon as we could and eat dinner around there. Guess we should stop for dinner on the way before we hit Chicago. Any locals know the approximate time that rush hour starts to die down from a grid-lock?
Last year at Expo. My brother and I drove separate and on the way home he decided to lead me through the scenic highway route so we could see a cool view of downtown Chicago. We were stuck in traffic for around an hour longer. It was not worth it.
If your driving from Michigan, there might be a highway that takes a wider swing around Chicago. If I remember right Expo is a little south of Chicago right?
Quoted from Aurich:I'll be in around midnight. If you see someone wearing this hat say whatup.
Nice hat.
Quoted from labnip:tired.... early morning coming.
have to sneak a nap in there somewhere if staying up all night thurs
6:30am get up
7:30am donuts
8:00am line for stern bus
9:00am bus leaves to stern
12:00ish back from stern
Be sure to take some secret pics of Stern.
Quoted from pinballkim:That's butterfly girls machine, it was there last year running sigma.
Yep but that's not Sigma.
Quoted from PinFun:Ready, Aim, Fire
Ah...the pin from the month I was born. It was a sad month.
Quoted from pinballkim:You are correct. I scrolled up to the first pic of Congo and missed the red the red at the bottom. Good catch!
Well, full disclosure, I had a little inside info that it would be there but I was looking for it in the pics.
Quoted from Pinballlew:LE Art (pin in the middle) looks the best to me...man cant believe they want 5k difference between those models.
The SLE art looks textured and has a chrome finish in one of the pics. I do like seeing Batgirl on the backbox.
Quoted from PinBackpacker:George Gomez said they were testing the idea and it may or may not go into full production. They actually looked pretty nice, like a stripped down pro with a small led display rather than a traditional DMD.
Cool. I was wondering if they would offer more info on those.
Quoted from kermit24:I wouldn't say trying "the pin" again. It seems like a total reboot to me. On the FB video, Jared called it "Home Edition" and mentioned that the cabinet was full sized.
It did say The Pin on the model name we saw from the ebay ad. I can't figure out why they don't put a coin door in it and see if it works for operators. The higher priced models are for home owners anyway. They need to market more to operators and less to home owners. That's what's going to grow their customer base.
Quoted from pinballrockstar:Now jjp and houdini ! Go! Go! Go!
We count on you!
Don't forget Alien. That's my most anticipated reveal. Oh and you might as well check out CGC's new remake. Maybe they'll have the color display already installed to try to generate more excitement.
Did Alien have a credit dot?
Right after free play there was a period. I don't know if newer games have a credit dot anymore.
Quoted from robotron911:Dear God, could a few of you guys cut back on the tree before you enter the main hall?
I didn't realize it grew on trees.
Quoted from labnip:Ha... Well someone grabbed my phone or edited the post.
Aliens totally rocks !!
Original post fixed & phone password changed
Sure. Blame it on the hackers.
I went last year for the first time and was disappointed with the game room and the lack of some games rumored to show that didn't make it.
Game room this year looked like a big success. Seems the new guy was really able to bring in some good games. Last year there were just a handful of DMDs.
Quoted from toyotaboy:Someone even brought a couple spanish Taito pins (one of them was polar explorer)
Those actually sound cool. I would have loved seeing them.
Last year, I just remember there was Congo, MM, Popeye, Apollo 13, TSPP, AFM, TAF,...and that's all I can remember. The rest were early SS or EM. I love early SS and EM but it's nice to see a mix. The lines were really long on the DMDs because there were so few. The vendor room had more for sure including an IJ that didn't work and Waterworld besides the new games.
Just from the pictures it looked like the Game room had a lot better selection.
Quoted from Phat_Jay:Too many machines with bad coils, warped playfields, and other issues.
I actually don't mind that very much. You just have to look at it the right way. I'm happy for all of the games that come.
Quoted from Pinphila:Gotta say, my only disappointment was Sterns display. In the past, their vendor hall display was pretty cool. This year, it was pretty blah.
What was the deal? I went last year and they had 4 GOTs, 4 Kisses, which were their two newest games, and 2 Whoa Nellies. Did they not bring as many games?
Quoted from pinzrfun:Flame suit on, but this expo has me seriously doubting I will be back next year, breaking a 15 or so year run. By Sat afternoon the free play hall was half enpty - again. Classic 90s titles nowhere to be found - TAF, TZ, SS, MB, STTNG, among others. The whole vibe just seemed off. Spent most of Sat watching football in the room with the rest of the disappointed crew that made the trip with me. Felt like nothing but a money grab. Ive seen enough 8 and 9k game reveals now, thanks. I'll go to the Milwaukee Gaming Classic instead.
If you check the other Expo thread where people posted their crazy picks you'll see what positives Expo has. It's in the vendor hall playing the new games, joking around with people that make pinball machines. I wish I could have been there every day after reading that thread. It looked like so much fun.
I went last year expecting something better than Louisville Arcade Expo. The game room isn't that good when compared but access to just released games and being able to meet pin makers is very cool. You just have to realize what kind of show Expo is and adjust your expectations accordingly.
