Yes, absolutely. Required for solenoid expanded coils in that game.

No, the extra diode is there is block all the expanded solenoids on ballys that use the solenoid expander from activating at once. Still just one coil of wire.

Yes, you can drill a hole in the coil bobbin to help mount everything and give it some shock resistance.
