Quoted from RyanStl:

Right now my vote on poll should be not cool. I have my Big Buck Hunter up for three days and the guns work intermittantly. Resets work, but now the dog damaged the cord on one and the other gun's trigger and pump works to move through menu, but won't fire to calibrate. There is a tiny scratch on the end that doesn't feel like it is on the outside, but probably is. The guns hit the bottom of the cabinet when placed in. I can't find replacement parts or and suggestions other than reboot.
I finally ordered everything for the screen upgrade. Found a 2007fp on Mecari for barely under $100 after shipping.

This forum already blew me up once but this is the exact difference between 1ups and arcades. They are cheap but not very durable and even less support. A heavy hard to move unit meant to be in a commercial setting is built to withstand abuse and be replaced easily. That includes the guns and all components. Even the computer.

I like how the 1 ups are affordable but this is why even an old school BBH is 1500 and an HD is 4000.

I'm completely in the not cool unless it's for a small child group.

With that my 6 year old loves his modded with a pi 4

People have been modding the cabs for the gun hit problem with simply placing a pillow inside the back of cab, using those foam squares you stand on and some go all out with putting cardboard tubes set to make the guns stick out like a real one plus put Cushing in the ends. Bee Kong has other videos and tips on modding the guns also.

Arcade 1up has been great with replacing things when needed, just need to email them or open a service ticket.

Replaced my trackball deck on golden tee for free and out of warranty.

#454 3 years ago

You know things are out of hand when these sell for crazy money. Lol.

#455 3 years ago

Out of over 30 games I've bought to mod. With many being new from store. I've only ever had two issues. One was a bad screen in a new Ms Pac that they shipped me a new screen to replace it with. The other was another Ms Pac that the sides got damaged during shipping. Opened a ticket and 2 days later replacement sides are on their way. Can't beat their customer support and service.

I’m not saying they are not a decent company. If you buy one of these for what now appears to be inflated prices, then spend even more to mod them and change basically everything. Why not just build a solid, full size Mame? So in effect you are buying the 1up for only the mini cab and artwork. Is that worth the 300+ price for just that? For those that mod, what do you have into them by the time you gut it and get it the way you want?

All in, my modded street fighter was something $675...but that’s because I got lazy and paid for a full mod kit so that it took me approx 15 minutes to do the swap from stock to fully modded.

Full sized mame: more $$, more space, more weight, and it’s too big for my kids. My brother-in-law has a full mame. I love it. Kids love it too but, they can’t play it by themselves due to size alone.

Well, within 20 mi. of me, I found a retailer selling these at just $129.
Most locally, it was the Centipede +3 version, and 15 mi south it was the Asteroids Tempest +2 version.

However, I question the price and the WHY - at the store south of me, they had 1 lonely-looking one on the floor, and it had all the looks of being tossed off a truck. The more local one? None on the shelf (at that price I guess so!) but had 1 on the display shelf - assembled. It sold as soon as I got there. Neither store can say if they get more in.

Interesting to read these various comments!

You’re talking about the Ollie’s door buster sale. Most were sold in minutes. Most are now on Facebook and eBay at triple the price.

There are many that don’t want the hassle of a full size cab or have the space. Arcade1up is at 1.5 million sold right now. That’s a hell of a lot of games.

#461 3 years ago

Interesting how they don't show up on Craigslist very often, with there being so many of them.

Yep, you got it. The local manager told me "Good luck, once its advertised, they're gone. And I have no idea when I can get more."

They would have been cute for when the grand-twins come visit, but its not like we don't have other games here

Cannot argue a full size cab isn’t more of a hassle. Although, we collect 300lb pins. Soooo

I realized I probably sounded like a whiny baby in this thread complaining about price of old monitors and problems. I'm going to try to be more positive. Funny thing is I knew it needed a pad, but forgot when putting together. I have material, but didn't get it in right away. I will try to splice the dog bitten gun, but have had no time because of our move. The "good" gun does fire with games, but won't fire during calibration. The kids don't care because they don't really aim anyway.

Pretty soon all materials for my 20" upgrade will be in. i wouldn't mind replacing guns because of my kids and dogs if they were available to purchase. I suppose they will be soon enough. I won't do a warranty claim becuase of my dog, but nice to know they are good with warranties. Overall seems like a good company that has come a long way in a short time.

After not being a whiny baby, I'm back in cool mode.

The reason I like these is my staircase with 180 degree turn around on landing. Just can’t fit most full size arcades and especially not golden tee and original big bucks due to extra wide measurement at control deck area.

I can fit pins due to them being narrow and not as long/tall when folded.

These have a niche and it gets the job done for me.

Now if they can make a pole position, track and field and paper boy I’d be happy!

These things are not aimed at the arcade collector market at all, they are aimed at the general consumer market and the sales proves they have got the size/price right. Its actually impressive that even hardcore arcade machine collectors are picking them up as well. They are just fun wierd little cabinets to collect. I can definitely see there appeal and was obvious a MASSIVE gap in the market they have now filled. And I think they have done a pretty good. I had quite a bit of fun converting mine to mame.

Am going to purchase BBH Pro and just wanted to confirm I read some things correctly before I do. Thought I read that when you assemble it you should put some pad in the bottom of the gun slot as the gun tips hit the bottoms? I was thinking if this is the case were you or has anyone used those small round furniture sliders they make to accomplish this? Any info will be much appreciated about anything I should look for and how to avoid problems etc..

There are a couple links in this thread with information. There are 3 simple mods you should do. Pad or pillow at bottom of inside oh cab. Put a small lead weight inside the front of the gun to make it balanced and replace the stock micro switches in the guns with better ones. All 3 mods are cheap. You can also upgrade the stock 17” monitor to a 20” monitor. That one is more expensive. No difference then what we do buying a $7K pinball and spending hundreds modding it and hours adjusting and tweaking them.

#469 2 years ago

The Tulsa Arcade BBH 20" monitor kit came in today. It is such a bigger hole and will make a huge difference. In my mind 3" isn't much of an upgrade, but when your talking 4:3 aspect ratio it is a big upgrade when you see it. My $98 Mercari deal fell through for DEll 2007Fp because the seller didn't realize you have to ship while Mercari holds the money in escrow. He didn't want to ship before he had the money even though I had been charged. While he was cancelling I found one on Ebay for $60. Yay.

Yeah, I thought the same way. 3" not even worth the effort. Then I found my first 20" 4:3 monitor and was surprised just how much bigger it was. Had a "Holy shit, that's huge" moment. LOL

I’m going to try the arm mount and a 27” I have lying around. Really hate the Tulsa prices. I wish they had some competition.

#472 2 years ago

A 20 inch monitor has 39% more screen area than a 17 inch one. (in 4:3 land)

It does look real nice and when you compare it to pinball prices it's really not that bad. I guess we are conditioned. In reality it's probably double what it should be, but it does have a nice piece of plexiglass and made from good materials. Tried pricing plexi and wood lately, damn?

Got my 27” installed ok. I set it to 4:3 for now to keep it from stretching:

I cut the shotgun cord today where the dog knicked the cord with his teeth. There are four conductors in there and reattached cleanly. The gun works again!

The second gun, turns out had a hair or something on the inside of the clear end of the gun. I took the gun apart to get it out. There were two parts I didn't know where they went right away, but figured it out. I boogered the pump action spring a little, but everything works great now. Here are pics for the record because if you Google it you won't find anything. It came apart quite nice with just a little bit of glue on the end of the barrel. The barrel tip pull off. Tip, you don't have to undo the screws in the stock to open up barrel.

Just finished these two games for a customer. Both are 60 in 1 mods with 19” monitors. They look good together.

I’d be interested in doing a 20” Dell 2007fpb in my outrun. But besides knowing I need the monitor and a Tulsa Arcades After Market 20” Completed Kit - I don’t know what else is needed. I’ve not found any complete detailed lists or videos of an 20” monitor install.

I use one of these (3 Pin IEC320 C14 Fuse Power Socket) Remove original power cord that runs out the back. Cut hole bigger on back panel and screw this in. Then use a cheapy power strip that is spliced into the power socket. Plug both the original power supply and monitor into it. I also run the original on off switch into the power socket to turn everything on and off. It's a little bit of work but once it's done it's worth it 10X over.

I got my 20" Dell screen in with Tulsa Arcades kit, and Geekworm board last night. The game is still on the side on my work bench though. First problem I ran into was I powered it up and the monitor didn't turn on with the game. I realized maybe I need to hit the power button on the monitor. I had to partially take the Tulsa monitor bracket off the side of the cabinet to get to the button. Then the monitor fired up.

I tried several times turning the game off and on, and from there the monitor came on with the game. I then started reading the comments in Cooltoy's YouTube video that shows the install and several people were complaining about the monitor going to sleep while playing a game. Has anyone that has done the conversion had this issue? I'm thinking I may need to drill a hole in Tulsa's nice bezel and plexi sheet to open up the Dell power button.

My display powers up with game and haven’t had to modify for that.

I have had the sleep mode issue with screen dropping but only during the score tally. It varies by what hunt is being played. I recently followed a suggestion to ground the 1up pcb to the metal case it sits in and it is better but still get the occasional drop out but again only during certain hunts and only during the score tally.

Really odd that it doesn’t happen during any of the actual game hunts.

Still hoping for a better solution.

Interesting. I read some people had better luck turning off the dancing girls. Have no idea why that would matter. Others claimed they had to go through 3 or 4 Geekworm boards and then no problem.

I got the game off the bench after work and my kids and I played for about 45 minutes. We didn't have a problem. Hope it stays that way. My work monitor has the buttons on the bottom of bezel. I wish the 2007 had the same.

Resolution is a lot better. Screen does look bigger, but my 8 yr old (SOB, kidding) said I thought you got a bigger screen. I put the old screen next to it, and said ahh. I contribute my sons reaction to the factory look the Tulsa Arcades kit provides, which is high quality. I was worried the screen would be too close to the edge and the side of the cabinet would cause you to use the game more on middle, but it was fine.

how do you have your monitor power hooked up? I've heard the sleep problem is only if you have it connected to HDMI. People use an HDMI to DVI adapter to solve that problem.

The Dell 2007fpb doesn't have an HDMI connection, so went with the DVI conversation cable. Maybe this won't be an issue for us. That would be a win.

I think the key to success with this mod is the hdmi to dvi cable. I started with the standard hdmi cable connected to a plug in dvi adapter and game would play fine until score tall screen with the girls and it would cycle on off until next hunt.
Ever since installing cable, no issues. Must be a slight signal drop with the adapter connection.

All good now!

Well finally joining the BBH club. Picking up a slightly used one. Now gonna need to order that geekworm board. They just released a new version of it so hopefully I won't have any problems with it. Already have a few 20" monitors and a 32" TV laying around.

The Geekworm board I got from Amazon was good to go. Show us your end result when you are done.

Arcade1up kinda do the job, I have the Mortal Kombat one.

They are no contest to my Neo Geo Big Red but since I live in a second floor apartment and I have already too many pinball machines, they have to do the job.

Do anyone know when the Killer Instinct one will be available?

Cheers,

Chris

No Go on the BBH cab.
So this morning when I messaged the seller for their address they said pick up was in a hotel room?!?!?! Not just any hotel room but in a rundown section intown.
Call me paranoid but saving $150 off retail is not worth the trip. Plus I wouldn't even bring that thing in my house until it was fumigated for cockroaches.
Hell no!!!

Since I didn't go get the BBH, I was able to finish up two more 60 in 1 games to sell. Centipede and a custom wrap Donkey Kong.

They probably didn't even have the game...you were probably going to get robbed.
