Remarked parts are a real problem these days... unless you know it's a good supplier; I'd be suspect of it.

Looks like an aliexpress or ebay purchase. They didn't even bother to put the transistors in an ESD bag.
Seems like they work in some cases; but, not all.
I think the problem is MPSA42 have been near EOL (end of life) for years.

seems to be the only supplier which still has stock. It's unclear how long these will remain available.
An EOL notice was issued in 2007; but it appears it was on the old leaded part... unclear how long the new part will remain available.
