Picked up this beauty a couple hours north of me. My 16 year old son and I are in the process of cleaning, replacing, and learning about the relays, solenoids, contacts, motors and everything else. Power button brings up playfield lights. Game reset button brings scoring wheel to zero, but does not advance the credit wheel on the back glass. Furthermore, the score reset relay in the upper cabinet is clicking away without stopping. We have to power off before it drives us crazy. I'm wondering if I manually change the scoring wheel to see if the problem persists.

Each score reel has a switch which when in the zero position cuts off the power need from the Relay. Search on EM Tech for score reel zero position switch should yield results. There also is a great animated score reel operation video on youtube. If your machine is returning all score reels to zero but the relay is still chattering the switch needs adjustment.
Manually add credits either with a coin or your finger inside the door until you can set it on free play. I use the "Penny method" described on Pinrepair.com but there are other ways.

You can also check what circuit sends power to the credit unit reset solenoid. Check the following switches:

Coin relay switch - switch with yellow wire and red/green wire
Score motor switch IND-A - switch with red/green wire and black/yellow wire
Ball count unit - zero position wiper switch

Make sure these switches are clean and adjusted properly.

And check the ball count unit to see if it is resetting to the zero position during the game reset process...

Here's the chatterbox relay. The wheels do reset to all zeroes, so I'll keep looking around. This is where a local expert would help out in a hands-on tutorial.

I think this would be the score reset relay. You can also see how power is being sent to this relay coil. Check the following:

Score motor switch IMP-C - switch with yellow wire and grey/white wire
Reset relay switch - switch with grey/white wire and white/brown wire

Make sure these switches are clean and adjusted properly...

Newest problem (on top of the others) is the playfield lights don't come on when switch is turned on. All fuses were checked (out of the machine) and fuse holders are not cracked, worn, corroded, or have broken wires.

I found 5 total fuses.

There's no switches in the general illumination playfield circuit that supplies power to the playfield lights. This should either be a fuse issue, fuse block issue or a Jones plug issue. Check voltage at the following fuse:

15 amp fuse - blue wire and green/yellow/white wire

Also, unplug the the playfield Jones plugs from the main board, clean if necessary, and reseat the Jones plugs in the main board...

Fred, you are the man. A solder joint at the green/yellow/white wire to fuse had sheared off. Couldn't tell it was bad until I tried a jiggle. At least one thing has been fixed. I'm thinking the stepper relays may be the culprits for start up problems.

Update: I took most of the Credit Reel apart, cleaned and polished the steel plungers, cleaned the plunger cylinders, reassembled everything AND the Credit Reel steps down!!!!

I reinspected the score reels and made one leaf contact adjustment on the 10,000 reel AND the coin door is not energized, the motor stops running after the reels are at zero, and the Score Reset Relay is not energized any more.

Next up: clean the Ball Count assembly in the upper cabinet. Maybe then it will be ready to kick out a ball and I can play some pin action.
