Quoted from mrgone:I love this game. I played the hell out of it as a kid in a shakeys pizza.
keep us posted on the progress. great thread.
Glass bezel is in great shape, a little lifting but it will work. May need to seal some of the art. Suggestions?

Background and foreground pieces are a little dirty but not bad.
Some of the art is rubbed off though so will need to be replaced.

DOH!! Sorry
Quoted from jasonsmith:If I start buying EM shooters it's gonna be all your fault. Be prepared for a call from my wife.
Just like the real thing!
Quoted from mrgone:http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/406090
click on the pic of the flier. use the left button on your mouse of pad to fire. have fun.
Thanks for the great advise. I only plan on taking apart as much of the mechanism i need to clean it. If i can get the plastic score reels clean enough (and matching in color) then i'll keep them.
I was wondering about that on the coin doors - when possible, i prefer to match the flyer and i think the simpler coin door with the decal looks cooler.
Thanks for the offer to help if i get stuck I probably will when i get into this thing.
Quoted from PhilC:That's a pretty decent looking machine there! Insides look clean. Why do you need new plastic score reels? I have a box of parts if you really needed something due to it being broken, but Midway parts are hard to come by. Steve Young has the common stuff, and John Robertson has some stuff (expensive, but he HAS stuff) otherwise be prepared for a hunt. Seriously, just clean what you have and be glad you have it. If I can make a suggestion, do not take the score motor/reel assembly apart if you do not need to or are not familiar with them, seriously. I have a parts catalog for most midway games with explosions of the reels if this is REALLY necessary to help guide you if you make an error, but its really not necessary to take them apart in most cases. Removing the reel assembly as a whole one side at a time and cleaning while assembled is what I found is best. My HH was missing the score reels and other stuff when I got it, I took it on a gamble in a bulk purchase, and it took a long time and a lot of leg work to piece it together. I ended up with two whole machines and sold one. If you needed help, I'm no master, but certainly no stranger to these games either.
FWIW, my coin door looks like the one on your game, the one on ebay looks like the one on my Sea Raider, it seems to be an older design. I'm no authority on that, but actually both of the HH machines I had came with the door on your first one.
That looks pretty sweet!
Quoted from EM-PINMAN:Haunted House is a very cool game, actually the best for a Spooky theme IMO that I first played when it came out and it was at a Greyhound Bus depot. The best thing I love about the game is when you hit the targets they speak, rather then just a bleep from a sound card like the later Williams Gun Games and also the on going background Spooky music. It will be great to see another one of these restored.
Not to take away any thunder from this post but the next best Spooky theme Gun Game IMHO is a 1969 Williams Phantom Gun which I own. I will be restoring and upgrading mine in the near future with Chimes/Bells instead of the original sound card for the hits and a custom tape player for Spooky background music which Midways Haunted House already has and a new Backglass from bgresto.com. I'll post a separate thread when I begin the project.

It's all good - hijack away.
I have some triple thick (old and new) but i haven't ever used it for back glasses. Makes me nervous using it on something i can't replace.
Quoted from HisboyElroy:Hassellcastle, Thanks! I now know what I am looking for. Tom, thanks for the suggestion. I will try to track-down a part number for the motor.
PACMAN- sorry to hijack your thread! Your game looks very nice, I will start a separate thread asking if someone could supply a part number for the motor assembly.
My backglass/bezel is in good shape too, I removed it over the weekend and sealed it with about 4 coats of Krylon Triple-thick. I had one can left from several years ago, I understand that they have recently changed the formula for Triple-Thick and people have had mixed experiences with the new formula. I have had good luck with it over the years, I have probably sealed about 20 silk screened glasses with it.
I usually leave the glass and triple-thick can in warm (70-80 degree) environment for several hours to make sure they are the same temp, then mask-off clear areas with paper or post-it notes. I shake the can well and apply 3-4 coats. I remove the masking immediately after spraying and let it cure for a day, then clean-up the clear/masked areas with a razor blade. I'll post a few pics when I'm done.
I have the schematic for the game. It's rough but it's readable. Let me know if you need it and I'll get it scanned or take photos or ? Also, let me know if you need pictures of artwork or anything else? I'll be glad to take them.
HisboyElroy
That'll take a little more planning.

Admiral Benson: Gentlemen, we've waited a long time to hear this. In exactly five hours and 17 minutes, we hit the enemy toast.
Lt. Commander Block: I think that's the "enemy coast", sir.
Admiral Benson: Huh? Coast? That'll take a little more planning.
Quoted from Beatnik-Filmstar:I kinda want Pacman to restore a Shakey's now.
Yes, that would be much more pleasant
Quoted from CaptainNeo:or it could be cinnamon candy speckles. You know, for trick or treat cookies.
Thanks, should go quickly now.
Quoted from Honch:Great thread. I look forward to your progress.
Well this one and tons of other haunted/spooky rifle games came out in the 70's.
Only a couple came out in the late 80's - early 90's that i'm aware of.
Like this 1991 Bromley GHOST TOWN
Quoted from ajfclark:Thanks. This is great to see. I have very fond memories of playing a game that looked very much like this when I was younger. I'm not sure it was the same game though because that would've been early to mid-90s. Is there something similar I could be confusing it with or did Timezone still have something EM on site?
Yep.

Quoted from vdojaq:I see a Spirit cabinet being restored!
Awesome! I'll be ready soon, gotta tidy up the shop first
Quoted from seshpilot:Again. I want to come see your collection! I'd literally come fly there. Great work!
Shouldn't be too hard to find but if you still can't find one let me know. i'm selling a complete but project game when this game is done.
Quoted from phillyfan64:I wish I could find one of these. Can't wait to see the finished product. Awesome job.
Production number is unknown.
Quoted from pinker:Thanks guys .
And for the number of game produced, no one knows ?
Yeah, I've got a spare but it's mostly going to be a cabinet and a box of parts.
Quoted from ajfclark:Sounds like you have a spare...
Pity I'm on a different continent.
Thanks! I mostly understand what you are asking... you're English is way better than my French
The skeleton is original, it was screen printed with fluorescent inks.
The rifle is all original, however I powdercoated the grey metal parts to match.
Quoted from pinker:Very good job and nice photos, It's very interresting
Before the dismentling of my game I don't remenber the skeleton on black light on the decors board. It's of origin ?
And your backelite grey support rifle is new or just very good condition ?
Thanks per advance
Thanks! Hoping to wrap this up by next week.
Quoted from phillyfan64:Looks fantastic!!!
I'd like to set it up at the house for our Halloween Party along with a few other spooky games.
Ghosts n Goblins Arcade
Ghouls n Ghosts Arcade
Haunted House Pinball
Addams Family Pinball
Haunted Castle arcade
Monster Bash arcade
And a very rare Eeekk! Arcade

Yep, he actually installed cabinet decals for me a long time ago before i learned how. He's a huuuuge Elvira fan.
Quoted from MikeO:You and Robert Winter would get along well.
Yeah, its basically the same theme but way, way harder.
Quoted from yonizzell:Haunted castle looks like the NES game Castlevania!
Thanks. Would be much easier though if I could find games that weren't so thrashed
Quoted from MikeO:Bringing in your woodworking skills to a project can be some of the most satisfying parts of it.
Well done.
Naw, keep it together for sure unless something is completely dead. Lightly sand the contacts. Wipe down everything with a dry tack cloth. No paint, same labels.
Quoted from seshpilot:Hey man, would you share with us how exactly you got the board with all the relays on it so clean? Did you just remove all the relays, sand, and paint, then put new labels on it? I'm restoring a Fireball EM right now and not sure if I wanna mess with cleaning that part (Clay's guide says to avoid unless absolutely necessary). Thanks!
Selling my project Midway Haunted House $700 pick up only in SO CAL.
