I have a FunLand wedge head that scores incorrectly for the 1s, 10s, and 100s and then locks up when the 1000s reel attempts to turn over to 1.

No matter what switch I hit in the game the 1s, 10s and 100s score reels move in sync. Basically it scores 111, 222, 333, 444, 555, 666, 777, 888, 999 and then locks up when the 1000 digit wants to turn over to 1.

I don’t have schematics or the manual. And quite honestly I’m not great at reading schematics in these old EMs.

Any ideas where to start looking for troubleshooting this issue?

Thanks.

Start by getting a schematic. It's $16.50 from Pinball Resource. http://www.pbresource.com/pfplayfEM.htm

You're going to have to figure out why the 1, 10, & 100 are moving together. After you fix that the 1000s locking up will probably be fixed too. I'm guessing that when the 1s reel rolls over it's trying to kick the 10s reel and the 10s reel is attempting to kick the 100s, etc. All at the same time.

A quick first check would be to slide the score reels out one at a time and see if the 9th position switches are always shut. They should only close when the reels show 9. Why all of them would have the same fault is a mystery, unless someone with little experience was back there changing switches.

So probably not, but worth the minute to check, then wait for the schematics.

A little backstory on this. I bought it from my buddy that had 2 complete games. One worked, one didn’t. He swapped heads, no change to the working game. Then he swapped playfields and the working game suddenly didn’t work anymore. So, the problem lies somewhere on the playfield.

After a lot of troubleshooting today, I’ve found that if I unplug the “Spin Score Control Relay” unit, the game plays normally. But obviously doesn’t add any score from spinning the spinners.

I then took it apart to inspect and found that one of the boards has been cracked in half and repaired. The weird thing is, this is a very simple board and I can visibly see that none of the traces are crossed, yet when I do a continuity check everything seems to be connected. I guess I’m going to order a new board from Marco and see if the issue goes away but it bugs me that this simple board repair looks like it should be fine to me.

At the risk of stating the obvious:
Since the Spin Score Control Relay unplugs you can swap it with your buddy's game.

Another "Funland" with burned up/damaged "spin-spot" relay.
This particular title is unduly rough on this unit for some reason.

That would be too easy! Haha. Unfortunately he already sold the working one.

To wrap up this post, I replaced the damaged spin score board and the game plays great now.
