I've been having an issue with LEDs running hot in the GI in my Gorgar. Voltage at the GI sockets was 8.1 volts, so I added a bridge rectifier inline to bring it down to close to 7 volts, but I'm still seeing issues with the LED strips that I added overheating and failing. All other voltages from the transformer are within reason, so I'm thinking I've either got a shorted turn or two in the GI windings, or a transformer that was made at 4:55pm on a Friday at the factory. That may explain why there were bare spots in the backglass in front of the GI lamps...
Thinking of going one of 3 routes here and looking for some feedback:
1) installing a dedicated 6.3v filament transformer for the GI
2) adding another bridge rectifier inline with the GI to drop it another volt
3) seek out another 15B-6797 to replace the one in my game.
I should point out that when I bought the game, the GI was disconnected from the transformer. Didn't think much about it until I converted to LED and started having issues.
