So, after serious consideration, I have decided to go after my grail pin. I got my kick ass minivan rented (Avis will not put a firebird on the hood of their vehicles in honor of Smokey and the Bandit) and have just completed check point one of the journey. Im currently in Effingham, IL....made it in around midnight from KC. Thought I would share some of the journey.....

Tomorrow, I pick up the grail pin and start the trek back.
Im sure you Pinside Sleuths will guess my grail pin quickly

Congrats dude! Trons are not easy to find, in the wild or at home.

Thanks Man! Jesus I though our roads were rough in KC. Indianapolis is painful!

I did the road trip about a month ago for MB. Drove 3500 miles! Denver to west Philly. Longgggggggggggggg Ride.....

Holy fak! I get it though.. . This trip has been a blast so far. Heading back now.

@molder2010 has a great pin collection... wishing we had more time to stick around and play his pins.

#59 5 years ago
Quoted from MrBally:

I'm all for road trips. Did a similar one for two pins one in Springfield, Mass. & one in Atlantic City. Same deal, one night in Hartford, Connecticut. Had my own minivan.
Best one was two Bally slots in San Diego. They fit in my Audi 5000.

Man, this minivan makes loading a pin and visibility while driving......a breeze.

#60 5 years ago
Quoted from Frax:

Man, I am *seething* with jealousy. You've got to wonder how many more Tron NIB there could possibly be left. Just when you think they're gone another one comes around..

Yea man, cant believe there was one out there. Seller had this for a little over 4 years in a climate contol area. I will post some unboxing pics tomorrow.......see if the ole girl fires up, or burns the house down

#61 5 years ago
Quoted from ralphwiggum:

Did you open it to check it? The side of the box says "Shrek" on it....

-waits for Stones to pull over and open box on side of freeway-

Congrats on your pickup, those roundtrips are always fun.

Oh.....shit........

Quoted from roar:

Why wouldn't I? I'm not sure if I would or wouldn't... I was more interested in the OP's reasons. Like maybe the seller wouldn't/couldn't ship, maybe they were the same as yours... wouldn't want to get it damaged by someone else's hands. It was an honest question, not a judgement.

My responses have been semi short since being on the road, but my navigator is now driving.....so I can better answer the question

It was a couple of reasons:
First, the seller could have made arrangements to ship, Pete was fine with it. This is my grail pin, and I really wanted to see the box first hand and meet the seller in person. If I had a weird vibe, or the box looked tampered with...I could start asking additional questions or additional inspection.

Like Frax said, its my grail pin. I personally wanted to bring it back.....and not take the chance of letting Tron get damaged in transit by a shipping company.

I also have a coworker (great friend) that volunteered to be my navigator

Quoted from epthegeek:

Is that Dan's NIB TRON from MGC? or were there 2 of these that recently turned up?

Nib from Columbus, Oh

#86 5 years ago

Machine looks great, had to tighten right flipper.......this slight repair was unofficially sponsored by budlite.....

#89 5 years ago
Quoted from epthegeek:

Yeah - I mean, did whomever you got it from buy the one Dan sold at MGC and then flip it.
This one:

Would be kind of crazy if two of them popped up and sold so close together. Maybe #2 was impressed by how much Dan got for his - if it's not the same one.

This one had the same owner for at least 4 years.....dont think its same owners

Quoted from Skypilot:

Your passion for this game is inspiring.Pete has been sitting on this for a good while. Thrilled you got it and will enjoy it!

Quoted from kidchrisso:

Quoted from PinMonk:

That last picture it finally clicked for me that X-Men is essentially a flipped Tron layout. Almost exact. Wow.

Ive not spent much time on xmen, but love the layout

Loving it. Hope your enjoying your new dI!

Quoted from RVApinballer:

Game looks beautiful! I understand the madness when you find such an opportunity. I drove 22 hours to get mine and don't regret it for a second. In fact, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Congrats man! It's such a great game!

#105 5 years ago
Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

Cool that your game was nib. It is kind of a little time capsule being opened. Congrats. When you can, search for Tron alternate music roms. There's a few good ones to choose from that turn a great game into an even better one, if you can believe that. Lighted ramp mod is a highly recommended way to turn your pro into an LE.

Sweet! I didnt know that. Is this thru Pinball Browser? I watched the videos on how to install the Eli ramps. Definitely need some leds. Hoping to pick up a couple other things

#107 5 years ago
Quoted from alexanr1:

Congrats.
I live in Columbus. Wish you would have had enough time to stop by Pins Mechanical, downtown. Awesome place!
