My premium shipped out today. Hopefully I can post pics next week. I've got black and white art blades, a shaker motor, HD glass, and pin stadium lights ready to go.

Quoted from Darkfader:

Hey guys, First time poster on this thread. My Munsters Premium will arrive on Tuesday!!! I am going to make an unboxing video. So stay tuned...
Here's a link to my brand new youtube channel for all things pinball! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdHfiagwISS_15WwJk804aA
There is no content up there yet, I just created the channel. I should have the video up this week!

Can you please include the installation of the 2 lower playfield balls in your video? This is my first ever pinball machine so I'm a little fuzzy on how to install them.

Quoted from He-Man40:

Munster Premium button guard side rails

Does this require drilling into the sides of the cab to install? If so that is a no go for me.

Quoted from Sethman:

What model kenwood did they use in the LEs?
They’d look good on B&W premium.

I've been trying to figure out the model myself. I want to change out the speaker grill to these in silver/chrome and install a set of LE speakers:

Quoted from DugFreez:You would also need different speaker plates to attach the 5 1/4" speakers (the LE size) in the premium or pro games.
I did see someone mention that they did buy the LE speaker plates from Stern to accommodate the bigger 5 1/4" speakers (I wasn't sure if they would sell them since they are an LE exclusive item), but they mentioned they were pretty pricey. On the bright side...if they are selling the LE speaker plates separately they might also sell you the larger Kenwood speakers too.

I just bought a pair of new Kenwoods and you can get speaker plates from pinball life for cheap: https://www.pinballlife.com/stern-spike-2-speaker-plate-for-525-drivers.html

#2505 5 years ago
Quoted from Ramzr1:

What was the installation like?
Did you have to remove the original gold rings around the speakers?

The gold rings are just painted on the plates. Most likely OP covered them with the lighted rings

#2508 5 years ago
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

The kenwoods look nicer, but for $30 speakers - do they sound that much better than the premium speakers?

I've played the LE a lot. When people are not playing the machines next to it, the audio sounds crisp and vibrant. I put a lot of time on the premiums at TPF, but it was so loud with floor noise that I couldn't make out the audio.

I'm just upgrading because they look nice.

#2514 5 years ago
Quoted from DugFreez:

I hadn't seen those yet. Is that for a pair or a per plate price? I considered getting some of those made when I was getting my Replacement SPIKE 2 Speaker Plates made, but I had decided they were more speaker related (not my business) than Speaker Light Kit related (my business). The ones you linked to look to be compatible with my Speaker Light Kits...so I got that goin' for me...which is nice.
I'm quite surprised FF or PP didn't get on these first. Replacement speaker plates and bigger speakers. I really expected the aftermarket speaker crew to have a complete new line of bigger SPIKE 2 upgraded speakers within 6 months of Batman 66's reveal.

Naw....it's actually an extra square piece that mounts behind the hole in the speaker plate. I was expecting it to be a (gold) plastic piece (as were Batman 66 SLE, Deadpool LE and Iron Maiden LE I believe), but it's actually painted metal...or real gold. I didn't give it a test bite to check when I was examining it.
Doug (SpeakerLightKits.com)

I think that's the price per plate, makes it a little more expensive than I initially thought. I'll need to get a light kit from you soon.

In other news my Premium is going to be delivered in 10 minutes!!!

#2515 5 years ago

Just got delivered! There is a hole in the box but doesn't look like anything was damaged! There looks to more cardboard and foam inside the hole.

Good to know! I'll have pics posted tonight. I've got to install a shaker motor, art blades, and I've got some HD glass to put on it.

#2518 5 years ago
Quoted from thebosson:

Will the Kenwoods need to be wired differently than the stock speakers (Pro version)? I've read some different things on here about 4 and 8 ohm differences, but wasn't sure if it applied here. Assume so? Thanks.

I'm fuzzy on it myself. From what I've read all models use the same amp, just a speaker difference between the 3.

This is my first pin so it took a while to set up. I installed a shaker motor, HD glass, and my GF installed the art blades, it took her like 5 minutes it was crazy.

Shout out to Zach @ Flip N Out for helping me get this machine!

Quoted from Who-Dey:

Holy crap man that thing is beautiful dude!! Congrats to you! Love those art blades.

Thanks man! I just realized I left the foam behind Herman. Fuuuu... I'm too tired to screw with it tonight lol.

#2573 5 years ago
Quoted from 2manypins:

When you put on the art blades, it looks like you missed putting the cut outs back on over the hinge bolt. They just stick over the exposed nut.

One of the cut outs was missing when I got the blades from Stern. I kinda like the blades without them, so no biggie.

#2605 5 years ago

I somehow scratched the shit out of my lower playfield during midnight madness. Thankfully I have novus on hand and got it looking new again. Time to wash my balls again.

#2638 5 years ago

I've noticed that my Marilyn led on the left inlane is constantly dimly lit. It still flashes and gets bright, but it never turns off. I've power cycled and and reset to factory settings but it's still on. Is anyone else having this issue?

If this isn't code related what else should I check for?

#2643 5 years ago

I checked the connections and reseated the LED connector. Maybe the LED board is bad? Everything looks ok. It's definitely the LED staying dimly lit.

Quoted from ZNET:

Let me see if I understand you correctly. Marilyn is constantly turned on and you want to do what?

Yes, Marilyn is constantly turned on. I want to fix it so it behaves like every other inlane LED...

#2798 5 years ago

I got my speakers in today, once I get the 5.25 speaker plates in I'll finally be able to upgrade. I also got 244 million last night on .96 code. I hit MM for the first time and that was a blast. I'm really enjoying the risk/reward of stacking jackpots. I'll be upgrading the code tonight.

#3012 5 years ago

I upgraded the speakers tonight. The sound quality is much better. The stock speakers sounded like "crunchy" when something like the Herman hurry up started. Now the sound is nice and crisp.

Quoted from DeathHimself:

Did you also go into the settings under audio and change the speakers ohms from 8 to 4 ? Wonder if that enhances it more so.

I left it on 8 ohm. When set to 4 there is a dramatic loss of quality. Almost like the tweeters are turned off.

#3115 5 years ago
Quoted from kcZ:

What do you figure this error means? Pretty sure there is no switch 35.
[quoted image]

I had that message yesterday on my Premium. I went into the settings and disabled and re-enabled the switch and it cleared. Not sure what caused the alert

I ordered a pair of speaker gaskets so my speakers won't be pushed against the grill. While I was digging through the LE manual I also noticed there was an additional speaker plate. I wasn't sure what it was for so I ordered a pair as well. As it turns out, this is what creates the gold ring on the LE speaker box. I'll be picking up some silver paint this weekend and painting them, but they do look kinda cool on the Premium.

Quoted from DugFreez:

I knew Pinball Life was selling the replacement speaker plates for the bigger 5 1/4" speakers and was just wondering tonight where people were getting their gaskets and 1/2" spacers from for them. I'm a bit surprised Stern will sell these LE parts to just anyone and even more surprised they are selling the gold surrounds. Not quite as surprised as I was when I realized that the gold surrounds were metal and not plastic....but still pretty surprised. I think the silver surrounds should match the trim and premium's black and white theme well.
Fun Fact: If a person would choose to use my SPIKE 2 Speaker Light Kit in this type of setup....they wouldn't need the additional gaskets and 1/2" spacers as my speaker light frames provide the extra 1/2" of front mounting space that the extended tweeters need. They also look pretty sweet with those white coned Kenwood speakers. My upcoming (next week) Deluxe SPIKE 2 Speaker Light Kits are shown in the video.

Doug (SpeakerLightKits.com)

I emailed Stern directly and explained to them that I didnt have an LE but wanted an LE look on my premium. Stern told me to give the part numbers to my local distributor so they could be ordered.

I ordered a set of your speaker lights but haven't installed them yet. I'm kicking around the idea of mounting the speaker lights behind the 5 1/4 plate so that light will only shine through the speakers.

Quoted from kidchrisso:

Spot is down and out, optos not registering, sucks on a brand new game...

Yeah tell me about it. This morning one of my pop bumpers starting going off on it's own. I had to pull the glass, lift the field and adjust a leaf spring in order to fix it. These shouldn't be issues on new machines.

I can’t tell if this is a joke or not. Haha

It was a joke, looks like it set some some people off haha

Quoted from TechnicalSteam:

I'm sure most of you have had the issue with the Static Electricity and lower playfield attracting dust like a magnet.
A few post back I recall reading more details about this but haven't seen anything about it lately. Nor have I seen
anything on Stern's website about it.
Anyone have any ideas? How to cure this.

I took off the plastic cover last week and cleaned the lower playfield, so far the dust hasn't come back.

I finally got around to installing my pinstadium lights this morning and then got an email saying the hovers were out. Great timing lol. They were incredibly easy to install. I connected the GI to a white bulb on the Lilly mono and the flasher to purple light in Grandpa's scoop. I might move the flasher to another location though. I haven't really played with the settings much but and I'm still not sure if this pin even needs the extra lights, but it's kinda cool.

That lighting is way too much and doesn't really fit Munsters. B&W tables look best with frosted warm white GI turned down to like 80%.

I turned the warm white down and it's looking much better

I set a new personal high score tonight. People can bitch about the code all they want. I'm having a blast.

#4572 4 years ago
Quoted from Who-Dey:

Wow nice score! Are you running the 1.0 code?

Thanks. I'm running 1.0 code and have all the settings still on stock, except for ball save which is set to 15. Normally I hit 70-100 million with exceptional games going to 200 million but I learned a few tricks last night.

Spot has been killing me with a SDTM drain so I spent hours yesterday just practicing a backhand shot from the left flipper. Once I got that down I was able to hit the left ramp 8 out of 10 times with a backhand so now I'm also able to easily kick off Raven and Raven restart.

When I start a game I go after Lilly first since her letters reset after a drain, then I clear grandpa and go after spot since he is so risky. Mystery can also help out here if Spot isn't activated and give a chance for an extra ball or Raven. Next I get an extra ball from Grandpa since 3 characters are finished and then go for Herman, Raven, then Munster Madness and I cancel every super jackpot until I I have 6X.

Last night I cleared Munster Madness twice. Games on average lasted 5 minutes but now they are going on 20. The right outlane is still a bitch, so I also moved the post down and that has helped some. I've also gotten better with nudging so that's saved me a few times.

Also my vision isn't the best and I've drained during spot when the lights would go out after a hit, the pinstadiums have definitely helped me do a better job of keeping track of the ball.

I loved the Munsters but after 6 months I got bored of it and traded it for a GB Premium. I only have space for 1 pin so I wanted something more challenging.

That being said I'll still be playing it at my local arcade and I can't wait to see how the code expands. I'll be picking it up again but for now I'm out of the club.
