Quoted from Kiwipinhead:

Is the Munsters Topper worth it?

I bought one.
Can I justify the price? No.
Am I sorry I bought it? No, not really.
Am I glad I have it? Yes. Especially if they are NLA.
Would I buy it again? Yes.

There is something to it when you are having a hot game and that bird jumps out and starts squawking. So, you hear it even though you are too bust playing to see it. For me, the only thing missing is that is does not cuss me out and tell me what a shitty player I am.

Quoted from dashv:

I’ve said it before but it’s worth repeating. It’s worth the money and worth the inevitable repairs you will need to do as the out of box failure rate of these is ridiculously high. But we can help you get sorted.
The topper really adds to the game. The Raven is a total ball breaker and interacts with you frequently throughout your games mostly heckling. It really works well with the theme.
This is easily one of the best toppers ever in my book.
Played some Munsters tonight and drained my last ball with grandpas basement lit and ready for Munster Madness Level II!!! Soooooooooooooooooooooo close!
My wife played tonight and also made it to level 1 Munster Madness! Good night.
I also took a picture of my tables and their plays...

Shit, you need to play more!

#8904 3 years ago
Quoted from C0untDeM0net:

Is that total plays? I've got over 2k on my Munsters. My stranger things over 2500. I just picked up a stern pirates a little over a month ago and have put over 500 on it. I play a lot I guess

All total lifetime plays (in my home) across the board yeah.

Me and Stranger Things just aren’t gelling. I’m going to be trading it for maybe a Batman 66, TMNT, or Ghostbusters.

You can multiply those plays by three because truth be told I really suck at Pinball and have all the tables set to 10 balls per play.

Still not a lot I know. But my current work demands a lot of time. So I only get to play a couple of times a month.

#8905 3 years ago
Quoted from dashv:

Assuming you could set the games to more than 10 balls, what would you set it at? Let’s say the max is 20 balls per game, would that be your setting? Very interested. Never seen someone do this before. Haha

Really like it and it gets your attention when he pops up.

Fantastic mod. Great price....$15 and to my door in 3 days. Good instructions and easy install. It really makes Spot mode more special. I love to see the lights.

Maybe my best mod/$ ever.

Thanks,
Chris

I am actually the better player in the house. If just set for me I would probably have it down to 5. But my wife likes to play and it really takes the wind out of her sails when she does really well but still doesn’t make it into the scoreboard.

I never install the plumb bobs either. I leave them in the coin box.

My son would set buy ins to infinite if I let him.

I cancel out buy in every time.

With 10 tries I take the extra tries to learn the rules, and shots, and appreciate the flow. I take a lot more risks.

My work for the last decade has been pretty high stress and I’ve been on call 24-7.

Pinball on occasion is a chance for me to slow down. For STNG I’ve spent as much time restoring it as I have playing it. Now that it’s restored it’s been rock solid.

Munsters I’ve got several hours into mods.

I like to tinker as much as play.

Also, dialing in that TK Multiball lock on ST with only 3 chances is a bear.

It ain’t easy that’s for sure!

I never played pinball as a kid. Parents didn’t have a lot of money and thought it was a waste.

But I was fascinated by it.

In college I’d watch this absolute wizard own Attack From Mars for an hour on a single quarter.

Just got my parts back from the powder coat shop. I really love how this turned out. The color is called, "Disco Teal" and really compliments the art. It matches the spider webs quite well in person.

As you might see inside, I'm trying out different rubber. The slings are Titan UV glow. They are very close to the green glow around Lily. I have more coming tomorrow, along with UV bulbs that I'm going to swap out with the white GI's. Art blades and my DIY stadium lights are next.

Ha! I wasn't happy with how Pinside knocked down the resolution, so I deleted and uploaded again at Hi-Res. It is still pixelated more than I would like, but you get the idea. Refresh your tab, and there should only be one.

Great job. I’ve always wanted to do a nice powder coat on one of my games. I can’t stop playing them long enough to do it though. Haha

That's why I ordered unfinished legs and side armor. As long as the back box bolts are installed, you can take the hinges off. I stuffed a rag in the lock down receiver to keep the glass from siding out after removing the lock down bar. My game was playable until I started swapping things over today.

There is a guy in OH who does great work. Search "powder coat your pinball" and you will find him via the thread. You have my permission to blame me when explaining the process to your wife.

Has anyone unlocked the mystery to the actual name of gold color powder coat on the LE's? Want to match the coin door and shooter.

My topper arrived today. Thanks to whoever it was that suggested Classic Gamerooms. I've also just about got my tweaks to my Pinstadiums complete.

-Never mind... I see in some previous posts that you are using a DIY setup.

#8924 3 years ago
Quoted from ScottyC:

I'm picking up from the white and green GI sockets. I added an inline resistor to the UV/ GLOW side. I'll solder it now that I've settled on a value. I started with a pot to get in the ballpark. Then I lowered the GI settings in the service menu to 40 percent. The out of the box UV settings would either blind me, or induce seizures! It was like welding without goggles. They should really be app adjustable, in my opinion. But once I figured out that they dim with voltage, I knew adding a CLR would be the trick.

I have DIY on my JP. I got frustrated on my Munsters and decided to cut bait. I still ended up having to modify them to meet my standards.

I was thinking Herman would look better in his racing leathers ( Leather jacket and hat ) If somebody made a replacement for the one that's on there. I would be a buyer for one.

How much for the color ones? Also do you do these for any other games? Like say Star Trek the next generation?

I have been looking around for weeks for a topper, but can't find one anywhere. Is it expected that there will eventually be another batch of these produced? If anybody knows of someone with some stock, or you have one but are moving on to another pin and would be willing to sell it separately, please send a PM my way.
Thanks!

Everyone, thanks for all the help. A special shout-out to TonyScoots - and Jason over at ClassicGameRooms.com. They got me hooked up with a topper. Just wanted to close the loop.

So, on to the next mod..... Does anyone here have any experience with these LED flipper buttons?

https://www.pinballlife.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=bb_lb_munsters

All the mods I have added to date I think have "improved" the game. I saw these and thought they were kind of neat, but I don't know that I had really looked at the flipper buttons and thought "This needs to be improved". If folks here have them on any of their pins (Munsters or otherwise) I would love to know your thoughts/opinions on:

Did it add to the overall look and feel?
Was it easy to find power? Where did you pull it from?
Looking back, was it worth it?

Thanks in advance.

#8938 3 years ago

I have them on my Game of Thrones. I got green ones. They look cool. Feel fine. They come with instructions they tap the power right on the board inside the coin door.

I remember them being cheap. Sure worth it.

So throwing this in here. What's the current scoop with this game? Any you tube reviews are old and not positive. Has the game improved with code updates. Considered a pro but never gone further because other than art I've never heard a positive word about it.

Most games made recently are probably better than Munsters because of code depth but if you are a huge Munsters fan this game is worth owing. Munsters fits in fine in a medium to larger size collection but if your collection is small I would recommend you get a game like JP, Elvira 3, or IMDN etc.

i think it depends on your playstyle. If you like deep code then Munster is not the choice you should make. If you like an easy ruleset then yes Munsters.
I like Munsters for what it is. It is a fun shooting game, with an easy ruleset. I likeThe code did not much evolve since release and i don't think there will be major changes.
A lot of people were disapointed because they expected the code to evolve more over time, but it more or less stayed like it was released.

Best thing would be to play it for some longer time before you decide.

Have them on all my games. Different colors ( the TRON set is cool), some pulse.

Feel fine, and a nice touch to the game IMHO..

If you like quicker ball times, Munsters is a good change up from say an EHOH or a BM66. It is a simpler game but is a lot of fun. Interesting I just offered up 3 of my games to some one for a trade (did not pan out), EHOH, Star Trek and BM66. Thought about offering Munsters, but didn't ,as I like it too much.

I'm a big fan. In my 50's, so I have a connection with the show. I'm a pinball enthusiast, but would have to be labeled a "casual" player. With all the work-from-home, this is down in the basement with my office. It is great to play a quick game if I need to get up and stretch or need to get away from things for 15-20 minutes. It is a fast / fun game. It also has a simple ruleset. For me that is a plus, but if you are looking for a deep game, this isn't going to be the one for you. By that same token, JP (while an epic game) isn't what I am looking for. I haven't encountered any bad code related bugs in normal play (v1.0.3)

Also for reference, my daughter and her boyfriend moved in when they escaped NY city back in the early days of the lockdown. The boyfriend had never heard of the Munsters, but really enjoys the game. We have family competitions sometimes and they will come down in the late afternoon to get in a few games. They love the machine and understand what they are trying to do. Get LILLY going, go to Grandpa's lab, get the multiplier up with Kitty etc. More things to do, modes to activate wouldn't make it more fun for them. The game has a good sense of humor and comes across as fun, art is amazing, and it shoots well. Let the haters hate..... This one will be with me for years to come. If this kinda fits what you are looking for you won't be disappointed. If you want something deep and that you will have to really work at to beat, keep looking.

#8945 3 years ago

This fits in the same headspace as Scared Stiff. A simple, fun game. It's all about hitting a few modes, shooting the big endgame and ramping back up. It easily gets 90% or more of the play in my collection right now. The theme is tight, the modes make sense, the gameplay always feels light, and I still jump around like a kid when I get Madness and start going nuts.

I would echo and expand on the replies to your question. It is a beautiful game. It is funny. The shots are fun, and flow well. The integration of the show to the game is top notch. It wasn't even on my radar when I stumbled upon it. I drove a couple of hours to try out a Monster Bash. Munsters was sitting next to it, and to my surprise, I found it to be just as much, if not more fun.

I only have two pins: Munsters and JP. They are very much yen and yang. I thoroughly enjoy playing both of them, as do guests. In fact, guests typically prefer the Munsters. I always start them on that, playing a 2P game. I walk them through the shots (especially the Marylin skill shot on ball launch) while playing my first ball. "You made that look so easy!" is the typical comment. On my end, I play Munsters to warm up for my JP. Since trading an old SS for Munsters, my skills have improved greatly. Because you can go from shot to shot to shot very quickly, it is easy to work on various skills while just playing a game. My JP doesn't flow like that. There are a lot more obstacles and shots that are tight.

I would consider it a good thing that a game isn't that popular when it comes to purchasing games you are interested in. You can probably get a great deal on one. Until other people start buying my games for me, I don't give a crap if other Pinsiders are impressed with my collection. I have pins for my enjoyment, and for that of my family and guests. I'm happy to help people, share things I've learned, and be a part of the community, but at the end of the day, I'd rather play than type. If you are on the fence, find one to play if you can. I know that might be a challenge in SK, but it looks like there are a few in Calgary

I wanted to give a shout out to Kim over at Ler Mods. I had ordered the Spot Flasher a month ago, and the USPS misplaced it at a sorting facility not far from my house. She sent me a replacement at no charge.

https://lermods.com/shop/ols/products/the-munsters-pinball-spot-lighted-ramp-flasher

I did a little trial and error with placement, and liked the look of a glowing dungeon more than an overhead light. I used some of my own HD double sided mounting tape and secured it on the edge of the playfield where the Spot opening is.

Oh, and the original package showed up the next day. I mailed it back.
