Quoted from pinballaddicted:

I got out topper going today. Turns out to be an easy fix. I removed the front plastic (4 screws out, tilt from the top down to clear Raven and remove) off the clock and drilled the hole the clock shaft comes through a little bit bigger. Turns out the shaft was binding on the plastic as there was not enough clearance in the hole to account for movement in the shaft.
Also the wires are not tied together properly and as Raven pops in and out it would have eventually worn through the unprotected wires. We cable tied the wires together.
Hopefully this will be your issue as well!

Drilling out the hole just a little bit wider fixed my stuck clock issue as well.

I first confirmed it would work by taking the front plastic off and pressing the flippers 24 times. The clock would go all the way around twice.

Put the front back on, clock gets stuck hours 5-7.

Drilled it out just a little. Clock hands rotate all the way around as expected.

Now the only issue I had is the Raven came out once during the game and didn’t go back in. I had to nudge him.

I’ll play with it a bit more and see if that was a fluke or if more tweaks need to be made.

I contacted Stern Sunday night with my issues and videos I posted here. Haven’t heard back yet.

Thanks for posting. Our Raven gets stuck occasionally but I am confident this will wear in. Awesome topper, definitely one of the best of all time.

Awesome concept very poor execution and to boot expensive.

I am out, working on my own topper for hundreds less.

Didn’t ship with my Premium which arrived last week.
I bought one but haven’t put it on yet. I’ll take a picture.
I’ll tell ya what I do have though...
Washers around my post... and playfield pooling.
Less than 50 plays.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

The small posts (those with the molded nut at play field level) have washers on my LE, just like yours. You would not want them any other way. The other style of posts under the sling shots do not have washers. I have one area of pooling at the left outlane post. I have not looked at it closely yet, but I do need to remove that post for a better look.

My slings don’t have washers either. On mine, it’s only areas that have artwork that have washers.

Played some more Munsters tonight.

In a single game I went for and made every kind of skill shot possible (luck not skill). Got the super jackpot and got the 3rd place score with 25m.

Decided to call it a night after that.

Topper worked as expected with no issues. It was quite fun.

Hell, I'd just love to have my topper back working. If I have to "make adjustments" like y'all did, fine. I just want it back. Preferably fixed.

New code 1.01 released

LE/PREMIUM V1.01 - September 23, 2019
=====================================
New:
- Added a Topper test in the diagnostics.
- The plus (+) button will move the hand to the next hour first going
around a couple times and then stop.
- The ENTER button will make the raven come out for a couple seconds and
say the current hour.

Tweaked:
- Improved the Topper clock. The hand will spin around a couple times before
coming to a stop on the desired hour.

Moved to SYS 2.34:
Updated to nodeboard firmware v0.51.0

Using LEFT+START to end a game during bonus count could leave game graphics
on screen while in attract mode. This has been corrected.

Added Service Menu selection UTIL->ENDGAME. This selection is only
available when there is an active game. When selected the operator will
be prompted to confirm that they wish to end the current game. Once
confirmed and upon exiting the Service Menu, the game will be in attract
mode.

Added Standard Adjustment "ALLOW LEFT+START TO END GAME". Values are:
"NEVER", "FREE PLAY ONLY", and "ALWAYS". Default value is "NEVER".
During an active game, if the LEFT FLIPPER+START BUTTONs are held for
two seconds, the game will be ended.

Added Standard Audit "TOTAL PLAYS ENDED", which will track the number of
times a game is ended via the Service Menu or FLIPPER+START BUTTONs.

Added Standard Adjustment "CREDIT FORMAT". Values are:
"ACTUAL FRACTION" and "REDUCED FRACTION". Default value is "REDUCED
FRACTION". For a USA coindoor when inserting three quarters:
"REDUCED FRACTION" would display "1/4", "1/2", "3/4"
"ACTUAL FRACTION" would display "1/4", "2/4", "3/4"

Update Italian translation of "ENTER INITIALS" to "INSERISCI LE TUE
INIZIALI"

Coin door interlock switch support for Spike2.

...funny and Dwight said no more code updates were planned...lol...there will be even more yet to come...a good game will yet become awesome! Stern would be nuts to leave it with only 1.01 and they know it.

Received my replacement topper last week and the clock hands still did not work. I emailed Kurt at Hemispheres Amusements and he and Mark immediately sent a message to Mark at Stern, who responded that an update would be coming this week that would resolve the issue. Stern sent an email this evening confirming the download was available, and upon completing the update, everything including the topper works perfectly! In addition there are new video and voice clips from the show featuring Eddie and others. What an awesome update and resolution for all of us wanting this extraordinary topper to be integrated into the gameplay.

Huge kudos to Kurt and Mark at Hemispheres, and Mark at Stern. Exceptional customer support!!

Lol. Technically this is a code update, but it certainly doesn’t lead one to believe anything of substance is on the horizon. I’m sure Dwight meant game play, not a topper test and Spike updates.

Munsters under performed sales estimates and Stern isn’t going to invest in significant code without more sales. Add in concern about PF clear, unsold inventory at distributors and some Munsters money moving to Elvira and it’s not likely that we will see a big uptick in demand for Stern to do new runs anytime soon. Enjoy what exists because as much as I would like to see a code update with enhanced game play and theme integration it seems less and less likely.

600 LEs sold, plus premium and pros. Has to be easily over 1,000 games by now. Not going to get 2000-3000 games without major code bump.

#5984 4 years ago

Hey all. While preparing my Premium for the code update/topper install tonight, I discovered 3 tech alerts (Check node boards 1,8, and 9 as not responding. Ran the node board bus tests, which returned the same. Any ideas on what to check? The game has been playing perfectly, so I doubt that there has been any gameplay impact, but would like to sort out before attempting the code update. I don’t know if it’s related, but I have noticed that the right flipper on this machine is underpowered on ‘hard’ when compared to 2 other Munster machines that I’ve had extensive time on. Basically, on those machines, on ‘hard’ you can backhand the right ramp from a right flipper captured ball (and my machine cannot, even on conservative playfield angle).

Thanks in advance for any help!

I believe you will get this error if the coin door is open. If you have an interlock switch on the coin door pull it out and i’ll bet the error goes away during test. Also - update the code to 1.01 and see if error goes away.

Respectfully disagree w this..BM66 theme still has way more mass appeal than Munsters, hence many of us put up with absolutely base code for almost a year.

Many ( including you ) want this game, and Stern knows this. Latest code was unannounced in Stern of the Union..They just did it. This game simply isn't as bad as many ( on pinside) make it out to be, and the topper is now quite the interactive toy.

They will revisit the code, and add some polish. Too good of a theme, already being well received by many as is.

It was endless pumped, then ruthlessly bashed on here " worse code ever". Even poor grammar from a pissed buyer couldn't stop the pile on this thread. Munsters is a great, fun game...period.

Hopefully Stern addresses poor play fields as they have in the past, and people will want new games again.

Explain B66 then? Game sat for over 1 year with poor code. Beyond the LE’s and SLE’s initial sales were abysmal. I would bet more Munsters LE’s alone (600) sold than all B66 models in the first 12-18 months.

Yet Stern invested in b66 code until it became the classic it is today. Exact opposite to your theory.

Edit: and what about Ghosbusters? Game isn’t even in production and it’s had a huge code workover.

I disagree with your assessment. What numbers do you have to ascertain that Munsters underperformed? Please share your findings???

I have numbers from a different source and they tell me and others that Munsters was a blockbuster title out of the gate. It may have slowed down a little, because those left wishing to purchase, want a significant code addition of show material. Stern knows this and since they will be producing the game for the next 3+ years, definitely has a vested interest to oblige us with more love in the way of Munster show material code. We have many examples of Stern doing this to other less popular games. A friend of mine in the mod business stated that no title has sold as many mods and could be considered block buster like Munsters.

You and I are saying the same thing about Batman. Batman Premium sales didn’t start to take off until there were significant code updates. Sales were indeed abysmal after LE/SLE for a little over a year. But the difference between Batman and Munsters was significant. At the Batman reveal Stern acknowledged the game was rushed to meet the anniversary deadline and that it would not be considered feature complete until Lyman and George said it was. So we knew (or took Stern at their word) that more was going to be invested in Batman. We later learned the game play underwent almost a complete redesign. Contrast that to Munsters which was essentially declared done at release.

Your comparison numbers are probably close because Munsters had almost double the number of LEs in the initial sales rush and almost all were sold before the “Munsters is done” announcement was made. Early Batman buyers knew what they were getting; early Munsters buyers were blindsided.

I think Ghostbusters is slightly different though I don’t know a lot about the title since I don’t have a lot of interest in it. However, it sold far more units than Munsters (so far) and was pretty much the poster child for the #wheresthecode? movement. Ghostbusters code status was a PR nightmare for Stern for years because it was such a high visibility title. Maybe Munsters will fare better because it’s still considered a current game. But I believe Munsters sales are pretty much done unless Stern revisits the code (and figures out the clear situation).

#5996 4 years ago
Quoted from jfh:

I believe Munsters sales are pretty much done unless Stern revisits the code.

There, we agree. To get sales moving they must significantly incorporate Munsters show material into the game, like they did with Batman. Sales are done if they don’t do that. A lot of effort for not much return if they don’t give us what we all want. More show material and call outs in the game. There are 70+ shows from which to take great gags and material from and I don’t mean just at the end of ball sequences. End of ball sequences are cute, but in reality, lazy programming. Dwight is better than that. Just look at Star Wars to know.

#5997 4 years ago
Quoted from Thunderbird:

Munsters was a blockbuster title out of the gate.

Agreed. Then Dwight made the now infamous statement that the game was essentially done. Stern will only produce more Munsters over the next few years if distributors want to order more. Right now they don’t and many are sitting on unsold inventory (made more difficult by playfield QC concerns) For the most part Stern doesn’t produce games that aren’t sold/committed to distributors.

I believe demand will increase notably if Stern releases a code update that substantially improves asset use and theme integration. But not before.

Edit: looks like I was typing this at the same time as the post above.

#5998 4 years ago
Quoted from JayLar:

So if I haven't got a topper, it really is no reason to update the code?

I always update my code to the latest release no matter what. Those code update notes aren’t not always 100% of what has changed or been fixed.

#5999 4 years ago

Does anyone actually think there won’t be another code update? Have they ever stopped this early on a new stern title. I mean we just got Got and Kiss this year. Both of those were huge sellers?

#6000 4 years ago

When i get a game I always assume there won’t be any more code updates. I buy based on what the game is, not what I hope it will be.
