Hi!

I'm working on a mod for Twilight Zone, I don't want to reveal too much about the mod as I don't want anyone to beat me to then punch.

I'm far from a electronic engineer.

Anyway, my mod needs 12v but I don't want it to be constant 12v, I just want it to last for a second or two. The best way would be to just connect it directly to one of the lamps but alas they don't produce enough power. Now.... is for example a way to connect the + lead to 12v and - lead to a switch or something to get ground just for a second? My guess is no.

Is my only hope some kind of a 12v regulator? like this:
ebay.com link: 1 DC DC Buck Converter Step Down Module LM2596 Power Supply Output 1 23V 30V

Thanks in advance!

Quoted from herg:

Without knowing what you're trying to do, I'd suggest looking into the GI buddy.

That would be perfect, just wish I could buy one already assembled.

Quoted from sed6:

My Mustang tach mod draws 12v from the spinner switch. It's only on or closed for a fraction of a second at a time. Perhaps something like that will work for you?

TZ, don't have any spinners unfortunately, how every, I'm unsure if it has any 12v sources that's not on 100% of the time.

Another thing I was thinking was using a switch.
How does a switch work exactly? When a ball rolls over it it completes the circuit? I assume that both ground power is always on and the ball rolling over it completes the circuit somehow?

Quoted from sed6:

Well spinners are just switches so the same principle should apply with any PF switch, AFAIK.
You could give us something more to go on w/o giving it away. Are you trying to light a bulb, run a motor?

I'm trying to light a 12v led when a certain action is happening. The problem is that this led starts cycling as soon as it gets power and doesn't stop. I would like it to just run one revolution and then stop and be ready to run one revolution next time it gets triggered. Does that make any sense?

Quoted from ThatsaKicker:

Is the 'action' cpu controlled, (has constant power and only runs/displays/works when told by code) or mechanical, (switch activated, has movement somehow)
If it's mechanical, just hooking the mod to it as suggested above or using a relay in conjunction I believe would suffice.
Or if cpu I assume, as also said above, the pig would work.

I'm stealing 12v from the proximity sensor board near the shooter lane but as far as I can see its feeding 12v constantly. Let's say I only want power for my mod when the proximity sensor board senses a ball, how would I achieve that?

If we for example take a look at the Twilight Zone Shooter lane mod.

Did they make a custom pig for that?

Anyone?

Thanks for all the help so far.
I have managed to reduce the voltage to 6v using a capacitor, I can now tie in the mod to the GI or any other 6v source, I think I still need a timer though because it lights up more than it need too.

Does the shooter lane switch open and close ground when activated or just turn on and off the juice? Shouldn't ground be constant?
