Facility will be open to play pinball ALL NIGHT Fri into Saturday morning and continue with Saturday's activities. Sales of qualification entries will cease Friday at midnight, but can be scored overnight as we will have scorekeeper(s) on site throughout the night. Sales of qualification entries to resume Saturday at some point.

    Quoted from TaylorVA:

What time does play start Friday?

They are targeting a 2pm start on Friday.

    Quoted from TaylorVA:

Also not sure how the qualifying games work. Do you pay per game?

    - $10 to get in the door each day, whether you are a tourney player or non-tourney player.

    - Non-tourney players can then play as many non-tourney games they want on freeplay (except Avengers which will require coin drop).

    === CLASSICS TOURNAMENT ===

    - Similar to Main Tourney, but smaller, quicker and more informal. I recommend doing this even if you never have done a tournament.

    - All games limited to pre-DMD games (or some similar vintage-based restriction)

    - Friday only. One division only. All qualification entries are $5.

    - Classics players will need to buy and play at least one qualification entry ($5) which is an aggregation of the 4 scores on 4 games you choose from among those in the tourney bank of games. No coin drop needed for any tourney games.

    - You can attempt to improve on your submitted entry by buying more entries.

    - As the day goes on, your submitted entry may get weaker as more players accomplish better scores than you for the games played on your entry.

    - Last entry sold at 7p Friday with bracket play starting by 8pm Friday, seeded according to collected entries.

    === MAIN TOURNAMENT ===

    - Main Tourney players will need to buy and play at least one qualification entry ($5 for B div., $10 for A div.) which is an aggregation of the 4 scores on 4 games you choose from among those in the tourney bank of games. No coin drop needed for any tourney games.

    - Main Tourney players can choose to buy another entry (for any 4 games) in hopes of improving their position.

    - As the day goes on, your submitted entry may get weaker as more players accomplish better scores than you for the games played on your entry.

    - You can submit an entry/entries on either Fri or Sat or both. If you skip Friday, you can do an entry/entries on Sat (before 5pm).

    - Sometime before 5pm Saturday (like 4pm ??), the sale of entries ceases and an A division bracket and B division bracket is constructed with seeding based on the ranking of collected entries. The 2 brackets are then played through to determine the winners.

    Quoted from MrWizzo:

Should be a good turnout. Thanks Jeff. how are things shaping up at Mike's on Mondays?
    Dan

I haven't made it out to Mighty Mike's myself, but looks like we've got 28 players:
    http://fspa.league.tater.org/meetStats.php?section=all&latest=true&leagueId=10

A bit of a logistics challenge as there are only 5 machines, but we are glad to be running a VA league. Stern was nice enough to tweet out this article you may have seen covering the new league:

Dan, hope you can make it out to FPO or to Mighty Mike's as a guest or for a season.

    Quoted from GListOverflow:

What is a mini-tourney? Is that the Classics tournament, or something else?

Not Classics. They typically run a side tourney or 2. Split-flipper 2-person game. Or one-handed game - something like that.

    Bump for FPO10 this weekend.

    #45 11 years ago

Supposed to start Fri 2pm. It doesn't close at all Friday night - it runs all night Friday overnight into Saturday. Saturday's end time is a bit loose. At some point Sat evening the non-tourney games will start to be moved out. The tourney games will stay until the tourney ends which is targeted for around 10p.

Congrats to Trent Augenstein for winning Friday's Classics Tourney.

Results are below. Hope people enjoyed it - especially newbies. Even if you don't think you are that great, you still have the possibility for great games. And it is fun to compete even if you end up doing poorly (as I did in Classics).

    FPO 2013 A DIVISION WINNERS
    1st Trent Augenstein
    2nd Frank Romero
    3rd Dave Hubbard
    4th Mark Steinman
    (top qualifier was Mark Steinman)

    FPO 2013 B DIVISION WINNERS
    Shawn Hillman, 1st
    Jeff Brocketti, 2nd
    Jason Salce, 3rd
    James Daley, 4th
    (top qualifier was Taylor Reese)

    FPO 2013 CLASSICS WINNERS
    1st Trent Augenstein
    2nd David Horner
    3rd Joe Said
    4th Pete Hendricks
    (top qualifier was Trent Augenstein)

    Quoted from triadwatch:

I would like to bring some of us carolina pinballers and wondered if this tournament is once a year or a few times a year and if so is there any dates to put on calendar for future.

Once a year. We used to also do a Fall tourney, but with the closing of John's Place I'm not sure that will happen in 2013. Next FPO would be Feb 2014, but dates are not set.

PM me your email address and I will add you to the announcement list.
