Your whale is out there, John!
With all due respect and I'm normally anti red heart shaming, but since you've been on Pinside for years soliciting money, maybe you could shoot Robin a few bucks?
Quoted from greatwichjohn:You guys can keep going on about the license. It is a big one, & I firmly believe it is there based on my past personal knowledge (sources & the owners). The operator (me) is standing by for the big whale with the cash.
This can be done in 6 months with the small team & contractors standing by. Even Predator was built in a short period of time.
Recently I asked where Jpop is, & Kim replied where he is.
And there it is folks, he is going the Skit B route and going to make one popular, but unlicensed themed pin, much like Predator.
Quoted from greatwichjohn:There is a licensed game planned & Dave Fix knows exactly that at American Pinball. The actual build start is Sept. 1, 2022 for finish date by March 2023 to go to Texas (SXSW & TPF). Not going to change my looking for $100k US Big Whale buyer of the only blinged out pinball. I plan on having a big badge with a huge whale, with 1 of 1. The artist & designer are dependent on a big whale being found.
Plan B: Mini Whales at $10k will be more like a stern pro model. Likely a home brew that already plays well with new art package. There are lots of people interested at that level. Only a small group will be selected & I will go by those who have reached out with serious interest.
Cabinets will be built here in Halifax. Might be something new for the big whale or mini whales. Time will tell. I had a nice afternoon on a bar patio Sunday, 4 draft beer for those that like a running total. My wife likely had her usual 4-6 bud cans at home.
Its not investing if there no possibility of a return on capital invested. This is asking for $100k contracted labor on a one off.
Quoted from greatwichjohn:Wish I was not a broke man, but those are the cards I was dealt.
stop drinking beer with your money in pubs while asking for our money and complaining you are broke.
Quoted from blueberryjohnson:Dragon's Lair? Based on my past personal knowledge, the license is there.
Don’t forget we saw how that true work of art homebrew ended up not seeing the light of day…
A classic example of exactly how not to roll out your one and done pinball machine.
Quoted from anynamewilldo:stop drinking beer with your money in pubs while asking for our money and complaining you are broke.
This ^^. Take your beer money and start making a pin.
Quoted from jp1985:From your posts it makes it seem like the bankruptcy wasn’t your fault. It may be helpful for potential investors to know how it unfolded.
What would be helpful is if this wasn’t framed as an investment and there was a binding contract that if agreed upon deliverables miss deadline there is some form of collateral.
Quoted from pickleric:What would be helpful is if this wasn’t framed as an investment and there was a binding contract that if agreed upon deliverables miss deadline there is some form of collateral.
He’d probably have you pay for it to be drafted haha.

Just fucking stop saying whale already. Regardless of your integrity and intentions you're just completely tone deaf to the valuable advice others have given you in this thread. You are 100% never going to get someone to invest in this project. Sorry, invest is the wrong word, I meant give you money for this project

It was a joke (albeit a poor one). Please try and keep the self righteous super-sensitive millennial holier than thou BS to a minimum if possible. It makes me want to vomit.

Ha settle down man! You ain’t the first to get whaled out and lash out, but I just don’t think it’s gonna end the whaleathon.
Maybe count the posts where he’s said whale and present him with the number and it will shame him into stopping?
I don’t think so though. The guy just can’t stop saying whale!
Whale!
Quoted from Mrsiyufy:What are the odds his next post says Whale ?
42-1, which is what Tyson was favored by on the only casino in Vegas willing to take action on his fight with buster douglas in 1990.
Quoted from gandamack:I believe he has also used the term: mini-whales, which apparently is a key part of the Plan B
I think 10 mini whales = 1 regular sized whale
Quoted from Mrsiyufy:I think 10 mini whales = 1 regular sized whale
Metric system.
They are way ahead in Canada.
Quoted from greatwichjohn:My personal bankruptcy is well under way, takes 2 years. I owed mostly high credit card debt of about $35k US. This was very crushing on my meager pension of $23k US a year to support my wife also. I had a lot of money tied up in new playfields, & other associated products I sold off to another party (Fantastic Pinball), to make sure my last remaining Seawitch playfields prepaid guys were made whole. All the pinball parts companies, & contractors were paid over the 15 years. Wish I was not a broke man, but those are the cards I was dealt.
Honest question… why are you sharing this information?
Quoted from jonesjb:Too much evasive communication from the topic creator
sort of like talking heads psycho killer.

you're talking a lot,

when i have nothing to say,
my lips are sealed.
say something once,
why say it again?
run, run, run, run, run, run, run away.
Quoted from Mrsiyufy:I think 10 mini whales = 1 regular sized whale
Yes, the mathematics seem correct. Although this Plan B is intriguing, it could take longer and he may have to wait a whale.
Quoted from ralphwiggum:Honest question… why are you sharing this information?
I sincerely hope John finds his whale. Best case scenario, someone gets an amazing one of a kind $100k pin and we get pages of forum entertainment, worst case scenario, we get countless pages of entertainment.
I was on a surf trip to Nova Scotia, found John on pinside, and gave him a holler to see what was up with the location pinball scene in Halifax (prior to propeller opening), and he kindly offered to take me around and show me the spots, even though he was dead tired from a rough week of work. The swell ended up being too good to screw around with drinking and pinball, but the offer was appreciated. Give 'em hell John, I'm having a beer or 8 and cheersing you and your ambition, however hinged on mythical whales it may be.

Not a laywer but, posting about how you're going through a bankruptcy on a public forum while also trying to solicit $100k for a dream hobby probably isn't a good route. Courts and creditors have a strange way of finding this stuff out and there might be a chance that if somehow you get this money, you'll be back on their radar. Just sayin' (and it's just my opinion... I have no experience)
Quoted from MaxIsDead:I am a multimillionaire and 100k concerns me very much. Good luck to ya
Piffle. I'm a multi-hundredaire, ten bucks concerns me very much.
Trying to make sure I have the facts straight.
You are going to have to bring in outside talent to handle playfield design, mechanical design, art design, audio design, electrical design, and software design.
You are going to crank out a complete machine in six months and appropriately compensate all of the designers that you had to bring in for this project.
You feel all of this can be achieved within the given timeframe and for $100K.

At the very least, the court and the creditors would be concerned with John marching off on another adventure that incurs debt and/or wastes his money.
I was gonna suggest a drinking game where we all take a shot when you see the word whale but I just regained consciousness after passing out on day one . I’ve got a whale of a headache

It's basically beer money once you subtract the expense of all the parts for the machine, then divide what's left by by six months, and divide it again by the number of people involved.
But hey, good luck, and kudos for your upfront, cards-on-the-table solicitation of whale money rather than going after retirees like I hear the practice can be around here!

So to summarize:
Plan A = Make a super-duper, fully-loaded, blinged-out, licensed-not-to-be-revealed Greatest Pinball Machine of All Time (GPMOAT) for your whale, for the nice-and-tidy sum of $100,000.00 US.
Plan B = If no whale found by end of July (or so), find 10 "mini-whales" and build them "Stern Pro" versions of the GPMOAT, for $10,000 apiece.
If no whales or no mini-whales found, I am guessing the project dies. Or you push back your deadlines and start over at square one.
The license, theme, and all other details of the GPMOAT are top secret and confidential. Only if a whale approaches you, without knowing any details whatsoever, while you disclose the details of the GPMOAT. This approach assumes whales love to inquire about mysterious projects promoted by individuals in bankruptcy. This approach also risks the whale walking away, if he or she does not like the license, the theme, or any other aspect of the GPMOAT.
Accurate?

Didn’t he say something to the effect of money being separate?

Whales don't walk away. They swim.
Big whales have little whales that feed on generosity
and little whales have lesser still, and on to mediocrity.
Still searching out my Whale. Might actually be one of the license holder. $100k US Is not a big deal to multi millionaires. If it is a true pinball whale they will know the value of a 1 of a kind prototype game in their collection. The guys knowing about bankruptcy will understand that the $100k US is not coming my way. It has to go to all the contractors & parts suppliers in this build. I will likely see no money out of this. Just the satisfaction of showing it can be done.

Sorry, at this point my only conclusion is your are clueless.
I would rather go to Vegas and put 100 grand on black.
Probably less risky than giving it to you.
I don't know any multi-millionaire that thinks $100k is chump change.
Notice how he wants a "U.S. investor" to send him 100K outside of the USA..... No "investors: in Canada? The project falls apart and where does the money go? Possibly some of it spent on somethings to show intention but a big chunk falls to him later on. Just imagine how much time and money the U.S. investor would have to spend on lawyers going after someone outside the USA. The investor would quickly realize that it's going to cost way more than a 100K to try to get back what he can and in the end he doesn't follow through. Game over, pass GO and collect 100K
