I recently went to a local arcade and got some plays on some of their newer Sterns. Had a blast.

One of the things I noticed when I scanned into the Insider connected, the name on the screen displayed my 10 letter name from my Insider connected account rather than my 3 letter initials. I can’t seem to get my personal machine to do it (LE Deadpool).

Pictures from the settings that I thought would allow for this and what displays. Am I missing something?

Maybe the game on location is not at the latest code update.

Yea, perhaps. I am on the current code. But all 7 sterns I played were like this. So I figured it was something I was doing wrong.

Next time out, cycle power on the Deadpool to see if it is at the latest code. If it is, then their adjustment setting still must be set for 3 initials. Default is 3 initials.

Let me clarify: The arcade had my 10 letter name showing on play screen. I can’t replicate it at home while playing. The arcade also allowed for Highscores with 10 letter name.

On my machine, the Highscores allow for 10 letter name rather than 3 letter initials — but my play screen (pictured in first post) does not.

Thanks for the clarification. I think I may have seen the same thing once when I played a friend's IMDN 3 weeks ago.

Did you scan your QR code before/after starting a game or after playing a ball or two as you did on location and at home?

I will see about trying the different scenarios on my SW later this week.

To further complicate the question:

(This is on a Rush machine, so it's not exactly the same, but I would've thought the IC stuff would be pretty much the same across any Stern machine that supports it, so...)

I have my machine configured for 3-letter initials for high score display. And yet, the player name on the play screen comes up as my username, which is more than three letters.

In other words, I'm pretty sure that the setting you found, "HSTD Initials" does not actually have anything to do with how the player's name is displayed while actually playing a game. Now, what does control that, I don't know. But at least you can be reassured about the seeming disconnect between the setting you're looking at, and the way your name is being displayed when you play. That seems "by design" as far as I can tell.

I believe it's game specific. Might even be software revision specific. Most games will show your 10 character name, some only show initials. I've also had a situation where I got my initials in for champ something, but it wouldn't allow me to change my 10 character name to initials. Not a big deal, but with the depth of newer games, programmers shouldn't have to think about it. All games should be the same.

As mentioned, changing to 10 character won't change this. Great setting, allows for friendly taunting, but won't affect IC.

Interesting! Thanks for the information everyone.

Finally got to show up on my SW premium today. Issue never happened on a one player game. My game is setup for 10 letter name/initials.

If I logged in and moved around to player 2, then it showed only my 3 initials.

But when it came to me playing, it switched to my 10 letter initials while I was playing and would switch back to 3 initials after my turn was over.

Klemp were those one player or multiple player games that you played on location when the issue occurred?

The IMDN premium I played was a 4 player game when I saw it occur.

The initials on the game play screen have nothing to do with the setting for high score initials. One the game play LCD, that is Insider Connected related.

Still looks like enough of a software bug to me to get reported to Stern. Should at least be consistency in displaying a username, not flip flopping as reported in this thread.

#14 4 months ago

The Insider Connected user name is 12 letters, not 10. Games designed prior to IC display the 3 IC letter initial for the user in the score frame. Games designed after IC (GZ and beyond) display the username. If you get a HSTD and the game is set to 10 letters, the username will be used if it is 10 letters or less, else the 3 letter initials will be used.

Both on my Deadpool machine.

I've played on a friend's Guardians of the Galaxy Pro, it shows the 10 letter name (in two spots actually).
