i got this 2001 from a barn find. the thing was there for many years untouched. the cabinet was trashed, the jones plugs were cut. the head was intact and pf looked ok. i just couldn't bring myself to part this out so i decided to save it. i do like a challenge.
i planed to just clean it up and put it aside to restore at a later time. but once i started to clean it i just could stop. 10 days later i was done. it still needs to be tuned but that should be the easy part.

I need to get a job like that. Not really, though, as I'm departing the work force in about 8 months anyway. That doesn't mean, however, that all that time will be devoted to pinball restorations, unfortunately.

Amazing transformation, you REALLY know what your doing.

#16 7 years ago

Great job!

#18 7 years ago

It would take me two months to do that and then it wouldn't look half as good.

#19 7 years ago

thanks for all the compliments, i really enjoy the restoration / saving part of the hobby.
i plugged it in about an hour ago... waiting for it to burst into flames. other than a few misadjusted switches it plays fine. now i need to find it a home. i am starting to get to many doubles. 2001, atlantis and el dorado and tomorrow i am picking up another jacks open
4 doubles and no room.
deals have been pretty scarce in the last year around here. so i grab good project machines whenever i can.

#20 7 years ago

just a note:not counting the cost of the machine and my labor. it took only 38 dollars from start to finish.
i already had the paint and stencils from another repaint, any bad or broken parts where replaced from the used parts bin
38 was for new rubber and a few new parts from the new parts bin.

Wow! That playfield looks amazing.

Did you repaint the cabinet, or did it clean up that nice?

i used a spare base cabinet, tossed the original just to much work.
repaint the new cabinet

I'm willing to pay even 4x that amount!

Looks very nice Dave; I know you have to stay committed, and you are to see the beautiful end result.

Can't help you out this time on the extra 2001.

chuck i am sure i can find it a home, these great wedgeheads are getting harder to find every year. that is why i grab them when i can so i have project work to do. i am afraid one day i will have all my projects done and i might have to start playing them

Great job as usual. Was that the original backglass? Is that the original head cabinet with a repaint?
