The 007 Bond Scuba Kick Mod is a new enhancement brought to you by David Morrell of Pinball Wireforms. This mod replaces the existing left underwater eject which produces random and undesirable effects including:

continuous rebounds back into the same eject causing boredom,
unfair SDTM bounces,
added playfield wear and
randomly earns you progress in the game, taking control away from the player and generally stealing fun.

The Scuba Kick Mod solves all of these problems while cleanly and consistently returning the ball to the left flipper via a dynamic upkick that travels through an exciting 180 degree turn pipe that drops onto the existing left wireform return. The Scuba Kick balances the return paths to the flippers. Without the Mod, there is one return to the left flipper, yet there are 4 shots that need to be made from the left flipper, 2 of these start modes. The right flipper has three returns to it, and has 3 main shots, but none of these start modes. By adding the extra return to the left flipper the game requires less flipper work to pass to the desired flipper and creates a more even and enjoyable experience especially for newer players to pinball.

The Scuba Kick Mod not only improves the game, but it actually looks great as well. This is a James Bond Pinball after all. The new fully chromed wireform out of the depths mimics the existing wireform out of the DB5, complementing the look and feel of the game. It looks like it was always part of the original design. It’s also built to last. Not only is the wireform made out of the same 3mm wire and hand crafted and welded, it mounts on a new stainless steel plate which is etched to show the gun barrel design used in the iconic opening sequence of every Bond film. Nothing is left to chance with this mod, the existing VUK bracket with the deflector pointing up the playfield is being replaced by a custom modified VUK bracket where the deflector is removed. Simple to install, the SCUBA Kick will include all the parts required, will take 10 minutes to install, guided by comprehensive instructions and is totally reversible within minutes.

Rigorously play tested on a Pro machine, this is designed for all models Pro, Premium and Limited Edition.

Thank you to all our backers so far, we have sold over 150, YAY! For those that have fully paid, your mod should be arriving this week or next week.

Since it has been successful we have enough parts for another 100.

Pricing is the same $385 Australian dollars excluding postage. This equates to roughly to a bit under $250 USD (depending on exchange rate). Postage is around $39 USD to the US (again depending on exchange rate at the time).

To order one of these just head to:

Great work gumnut01 for all the work you've put in, to get this mod up and running.

For those of you who may not have seen my work before, you can view my wireform shop at
https://pinball.avidcreations.com.au

I've been making pinball wireforms for a relatively short time, but I've been welding wire for nearly 15 years, and it is currently my full time career.

What I actually make, is what is called a Rolling Ball Sculpture. You can view my extensive work here -
http://rollingballsculpture.com.au
Like most modders, making mods is not a full time job, however I'll make every effort to get these produced as quickly as possible, once we get enough orders to start production.

Anyway.. gumnut01 and I have been messaging/calling back and forth for quite some time in order to get this mod from an idea to a prototype, and I think we've come up with a fantastic solution for the game.
Most of my wireform mods are built, to try to fix an issue, and this one is no exception.

There's still plenty of work to do, including building a working jig in order to make producing these wireforms the same each and every time. To give you an idea, it'll most likely take around 10hrs to build a jig (as has been the case for all of my other wireforms), so bear with me, as each one is hand made, and can't simply be purchased off a shelf.

Cheers

David.

List updated, 22 dots left. Thank you everyone!

Please add me in as well. Thanks!

Pls add me. I like the idea of being able to pick tank or pops (+ now other shots) vs. it being random.

If you are getting sdtm from the eject you should use the time between now and getting this mod to learn to play better

I had the opportunity to see / play this modification in person and after a few games, all I can say is WOW! The thought, collaboration and engineering that's gone into making this deserves huge kudos. To make a modification that functions 100%, adds flow to the gameplay and looks like it was factory, is simply brilliant work. It doesn't block out the view to any of the left side shots either. I found whilst playing this game that frequently the ball would slip back into the scuba kickout hence delaying the ability to complete modes, but with the ball returning to the left flipper it allows you to continue shooting for the mode shots. IMO this mod adds another level to the gameplay and makes it even more enjoyable to play.  I'm on the list to buy and I don't even own a 007 ... yet!

List updated. Thanks everyone! 15 spots left for the initial run. If there’s enough interest we can possibly extend the run.

Thanks @symonz, great to see someone else enjoy the game with the mod. Here’s a short video of him playing my machine with a few bloopers. Only shows the Scuba Kick twice, but fun seeing 2 guys talking about a new pin. Nice meeting new pinheads.

I actually did not know about your offer, nice to know it exists.

I'm curious on the technical aspect of manufacturing these (not that I have any hope of replicating this, but curious nonetheless), is this made using professional bending machines, then welded together, or all done by hand ? If so, how do you achieve accuracy ?

Cheers

Check out the links he provided if you haven't already done so. He makes some really cool stuff and obviously knows what he is doing. Seriously, the ball rolling sculpture videos are mesmerizing

Just some of the old photos as we were developing this. Here is my proof of concept. It worked for 5 games until all the solder points broke. This is why I leave wireforms to David.

And this is how you develop a mod when you’re 1400 km away from the pinball.

Everything is done by hand. I bend the wire around various bending jigs, and I also have a wire bending roller. Then, once everything is bent to a near perfect shape, the wires will be clamped down in a jig and welded. The tricky part is making the first wireform as perfect as possible. As they are all hand made in the jig, there may be slight variances, but unless you bought several of them, you wouldn't see those differences. I try to make them the same as much as possible.

I'm just excited I was early to the party on this mod! Spot #1 My wife and more than a few of my friends have heard me say "there's no easily repeatable way to feed the left flipper" many times.

Do these get dipped in Chrome to match the other Wire forms?

Looks great, and seems like it would definitely improve game play.

Almost there 7 left. Coming up to the weekend.

We need to decide whether we are stopping at 50 or extending to 100. Will make this decision after the weekend. Just need to lock in our bulk orders for parts soon.

Thanks everyone for all your support. Dave is working hard on taking parts to the next stage. Will reveal as soon as wireform is chrome plated.

I’m maxed out on room for other pins. So when one comes in one has to go. I love the bond theme but felt like it was missing something and this mod will make it so it’s bolted down.

Same. That’s why I designed this. I was going to move it on in 3 months. Now I’m playing it more than Foo.

#48 12 months ago

So down to the last 4.

Our initial 50 will close soon. We have to get these out in bulk because of the chroming process and cutting and engraving plates. All of these are considerably more affordable if we do them 50 at a time rather than 5 or 10. That’s how we can keep the cost down.

If people still want one after this first run, that’s fine, I will extend the list to 100. Please let me know. In the next week after we have got deposits we have to make a big order from a US supplier to buy the VUK bracket. The weight is between 10 to 20kg for these brackets (and extra nuts and bolts). This costs us $500 AUD in postage alone. The brackets are cheaper if we buy 100 rather than 50. If we have enough preorders for the next 50, taking us to 100 we can keep the price down for the next 50. So please let us know if your interested.

A pinsider reached out to me and asked if our mod will stop the ball from ricocheting off the upper left flipper over the plastic and down the outlane.

Yes.

Yes it will.

Added the original bumper post to our metal plate today. Didn’t design this mod to stop erratic outlane drains, but good to have another benefit.

Ignore the marks on our prototype decal. It’s been through a lot of adjustments.
