I’m complelty new to pinball and I just received my first pinball machine. I bought a used AC/DC machine with a lot of tricked out mods. It currently has LED flipper buttons and I’m hearing a high pitch squeak coming from the left flipper button. It sounds like a bird chirping. Lol. You can hear it with the machine off too. Any sudgestions on what to do?

Is there dirt inside the button? Is the nut too tight?

Maybe your game also came with the chirping bird mod? JK. Pull the button and clean and make sure the LED is not rubbing on the button when pressed.

I was unable to locate a newer thread on this topic

Is there an easy solution for this problem ?

I have 2 pins with the bright mods flipper buttons and the squeaking is driving me up the wall !

Plastic on plastic friction makes the irritating noise.

Seeking easy long term solution please.

Thanks
Ando

I have the same thing with the bright mods flipper buttons...not squeaking like crazy but do get the occasional chirping which is annoying...

I'm wondering if it is the spring inside the button (not the leaf spring but the actual button) as Stern doesn't have a spring in their factory installed ones. I'm going to try removing those springs and see if there's a difference. My thought is the internal spring is adding just a slight imbalance to the button and causing it to ride slightly on the inner wall causing the plastic on plastic friction....I'll report back when I get around to it.

Well it beats me how inner and outer section on britemods can be separated ?
it is certainly the plastic on plastic that creates the squeak.
Some silicone grease applied with a toothpick has fixed the problem.

I'm wondering though will the grease gum up over time and start sticking?

Replace them. The clear flipper buttons tend to squeak.

I’ve used a few of the clear flipper buttons from pinball life that aren’t in the bright mods kits. Those haven’t squeaked yet.

Yeah, good point.

I am just so happy that there is no annoying squeak now.

If they gum up I'll do as Chuck suggested and replace them.

So I got the spring out. I just took a tac hammer and gave a slight tap to the back of the button assembly that makes contact with the leaf spring and the button pops right out. Took out the spring, pushed the button back using a little force to get the ridge back through the hole and good as new. No stress fractures on the button. No squeaking at all now. The buttons are much more responsive and sensitive now and I can flipper juggle and post pass much easier now than with the stiffer springs.

Hope this helps

Removing the spring is a huge help, although the clear ones still don’t feel the same as the colored versions.
You can easily separate the flipper by applying pressure to the inner post that is inside the machine. Hold onto the outside of the flipper button and press down on a hard surface. The spring is only needed if the button is installed vertically, like a lockdown bar button.

Awesome. Now put an e clip on the inside of it to ensure the button never pops out.
