None of that stuff bothers me. It all ends up with people who really want to go paying face value to go. As long as Pinburgh tickets remain non-transferrable (i.e. no scalping), the current system is about as good as it can possibly be, considering the demand.

You still need five names to buy five tickets. It's not like anyone can grab five "just in case." You need to coordinate with specific people who are all willing to pay the VIP upgrade. But yeah, these are going to vanish regardless. They could have charged double or triple and still sold out instantly.

    Quoted from plankalkul:

So for Pinburgh 2020, if the PAPA facility is up and running, ... could this be the last David L. Lawrence Pinburgh? Will Pinburgh split from replay and go home to roost? Is that even possible?

Very unlikely. In page 2 of this (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/papa-21-is-it-happening/page/2) thread PAPA Doug mentions future championship events (PAPA 21), but their January 13th facebook post explicitly calls the new facility a "non-public location." I think there's zero chance Pinburgh will fit in anything smaller than a convention center at this point. Also, ReplayFX attendance would plummet if they pulled Pinburgh out of it.

Easier to pull off the group buying strategy if each person is trying for the same number of tickets. Stay in touch, only one person checks out for everyone. Don’t try the semi-overlap where one person is buying three, one of those guys is also trying just for himself, etc. Recipe for disaster.

    Where was the stuck ball?!?

    Gomez game? No telling.

We play that a drain is a drain, ball save or not. Otherwise it's an unfair advantage to those who step up after a drain vs. a successful stall. Kickbacks are still ball in play.

I don't think we've used a game with virtual kickbacks, so it never came up. Kind of a gray area. I don't have a strong opinion either way as long as everyone knows the house rule.

    Hilton's track record remains intact.

    Quoted from epthegeek:

    - Always be sitting. It's a looooong time on your feet and it's on a concrete floor, when you can, sit down.

Let me be the 5th or 6th person to emphasize this. Sit early & often. If you stand all day Thursday you'll feel fine, but hate yourself by Friday night.

    Quoted from misterschu:

(though someone suggested that first era gottlieb SSs have a minute chance of ball save at random???)

My guess is the ball bounced clean through the trough without hitting the outhole switch. I've seen it several times over the years, especially on that era of game with a relatively flat single-ball trough.

That poker chip thing would absolutely DQ me at least once.

Any cool new shirts this year?

Sure, pinball is great and all, but was the chocolate-covered bacon vendor back this year?

    Quoted from RatShack:

    What's the secret sauce?

Dunno what they use, but here’s mine:
...after cleaning the spinner arms with a scotchbrite pad and making sure they’re perfectly straight & balanced.

    Quoted from kguenther6:

We should be encouraging people to get into pinball.

Agreed, but in this particular case I don't think the problem is lack of interest. Running more tourneys and dirt cheap tourneys, sure. Pinburgh is never going to be very newbie-friendly, because it already costs $230 and sells out in seconds. And that's okay! ...for the biggest tourney in the world, and a major.

    Quoted from kguenther6:

Are you saying their mission has changed and Pinburgh is no longer to "spread enthusiasm for pinball among casual gamers"?

I'd say you're taking that mission statement a bit too literally. Pinburgh can spread enthusiasm without every casual Jane & John Doe being able to stumble into it. The financial and ticket scarcity barrier is already so high that some of the best players in the world can't get in. Raising the price a bit more isn't the straw that breaks the camel's back. The camel is dead.

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Does the 800 computers thing really work?

I assume Josh was joking, but yeah, the math works out. Let's say there are a thousand people trying to buy VIP tickets. Would you rather be 1 of 1,000 or 800 of 1,800?
