The Gottlieb 1951 Route 66 had never hit the production line, but had any EM
with that title? Didn't find anything on one..

IPDB doesn't have any other EM with that title.

That's a good enough answer for me.

Also, consider that manufacturers preferred to have themes that would be understood worldwide, though that was not a strict policy in 1951.

Looking at IPDB, there are 4 pins that sort of have a driving travel theme. No Rte. 66.

1952 Gottllieb Cross Roads. 1952 Williams Four Corners. 1961 Williams Highways. 1965 Bally Cross Country.

I checked out the Cross Country. Nice looking playfield!
The (so called) Route 66 looks to sit on it's own somewhat in the center of the floor.
I was thinking maybe a late 60s/early 70s machine converted..

    Quoted from Mopar:

I was thinking maybe a late 60s/early 70s machine converted..

It has score reels and a second set of 2 reels. So it would have been either, football, baseball, or auto racing theme that counted laps.

    Yea, I bet you're right..
If this pin does exist, perhaps someone will recognize its original title,
or even perhaps the way it sits as Route 66..
