Not a great deal at $500. Put pretty good considering condition of back glass and playfield, and it worked. Have a few minor issues like a ghost ball kicking out at the and of a game. And the person who put stick on pop protectors on without doing paint touch up first. But happy to join center pop club.

Yeah - a little too $$ to be considered an LEP buy, but prices are creeping up & it worked.

I prefer the derelict, neglected beaters as a starting point. - So satisfying to get them running.

    #353 2 years ago

I keep trying to be a LEP man but after buying them dirt cheap or getting them for free I always end up breaking the rules and making them pretty

That is what I do most of the time. Buy low price derelicts and make the pretty and working. Think really that is what this thread is all about. It isn't how they look and play when you are finished with them, it is how little you pay and how they look and play when you buy them.

    #355 2 years ago

I haven’t bought an Lep in five months. I used to search CL and FB many times a day, and that’s how I used to find them.

Cool! I liked my Fan-Tas_tic, but you can't keep them all....

Not only my first middle pop game, but the first time I ever rebuilt pop bumpers. The "middle" one between the flippers was so weak it barely did anything, so I bit the bullet and followed Steve Kulpa's excellent pop rebuild guide, and that bumper would slam that ball in a circle all the way around and back out the top of the other side - i couldnt WAIT to rebuild the other 3! lol

This time got two for $500. Double Barrel with decent backglass and pf. But terrible cabinet. And Stardust with interesting repairs on backglass but ok overall.

Nice. Great graphics on that Double bbl playfield, & easy to duplicate paint scheme on the cab. Good score!

Time to get this thread some life. Still deals to be made. I’ve missed more than I’ve got. Currently working on my $400 LEP Fireball Classic. It’s all there luckily. Ordered $100 in parts. It’ll never be pretty but it should play just fine. Previous owner(s) hacked up some wiring, pulled the mylar, removed plastic decals and it appears repainted then removed the paint on the playfield. It’ll be a player and that’s okay by me.

Scored LEP $350 Drop A Card!

Needs a little TLC, but is in great shape.

It has the lockdown bar, just not pictured.

Low end pin purchase this month: A Supersonic with a battery damaged MPU.

I repaired the MPU, installed NVRAM, replaced one borked display, new caps on the solenoid board, installed leds, added resistors to the lamp drivers, touched up the playfield and painted the legs.

Been awhile since I've posted a LEP buy. They were described as sitting in a basement, not plugged in for years, and 'should work' but might need a little tuning. Dear god they're beautiful. And $60 each.

Finally a real LEP buy for the short green.
With all of the postings boasting of $350~450 "LEP" buys, I was wondering if the great deals had all dried up.
    Congrats!

Coworker with 3 nonworking pinball games. Basement had flooded but hadn’t gotten up to the cabinets. She just wanted them gone for 3k. Restored all three. Sold the police force and Addams. Still have the cyclone after restoring and playfield swapping it. Best deal I’ll ever come across.

Here’s one that’s in fair shape with a nice backglass. It’s a good ways away from you and obviously you’d have to get stencils for the cabinet repaint but it looks like the base coat is already there, or really close to it.

Most Old Chicago’s you see have really faded colors on the cabinet and are in need of a repaint anyway.

You might get lucky and it’s acrylic paint. In that case you can remove it without hurting the original paint.

I bought a Wizard last year and I didnt get that lucky. The cabinet had an oil based dark brown gel stain on it to make it look like furniture lol.

I think that off white that’s on this Old Chicago is close to the original base coat color and would work for a stencil repaint from pictures I saw on IPDB. Could be wrong not seeing it in person.
