Great find, Jeff. Thanks for posting!

Good mercy...that Sportsman is out of this world! I'm still trying to put my eyeballs back in there sockets after pouring over those pictures. *gasp* Just...gorgeous. Thanks for posting those shots.
Glad to see this thread coming back to life.
Someone save this Knockout:

Probably because he can't be bothered to take his microwave off the glass.

Here's another item of note, a 1947 Gottlieb "Flying Trapeze".

You may recognize the year as a significant one, same year as the invention of the flipper. In fact, this was Gottlieb's final flipperless game, released directly prior to Humpty Dumpty.

A little rough, but I'll bet she'd shine up nicely in the right hands. Also, that backglass looks like it has some incredible backlit elements (this next image is from IPDB, not the seller:
Also, the lowest priced ad I've posted yet.
Get it!!!
A 1940's(?) Bally "Play Feature"
ebay.com link: Very Rare 1940s Bally Play Feature Horse Racing Pinball Arcade Game
The ad heading says "Very Rare" and I'm actually inclined to believe them for once...as I couldn't even find a listing for it on IPDB:
Quoted from way2wyrd:$1200 and its 3 times lower than the value and its missing the ball lift lololololo
1930's parts...those should be easy to come by.
Okay, here's another from the 30's, TRIGGIE(?):
So here's another item of interest, a 1940 Bally "Vacation"
There are no images or price on the c-list ad, but I contacted the seller, James, since he's sort of in my neck of the woods, and got some pictures and a price from him.
$500 firm.
It's not working, but a pretty cool lookin' game. I tried my diplomatic best to let him know that non-working flipperless games are a tough sell and that he's not likely to get his asking price. However, I also told him I'd try to help him by spreading the word. Here's hoping someone proves me wrong and saves this machine with an asking price. ...or does a better job of diplomatic haggling than I did. Here it is:

Quoted from way2wyrd:I like that home run
Still available...albeit several states away.
The playfield says the name of this game is "Big Shot," but I couldn't find it on IPDB. Looks purely mechanical so I'm guessing it is from the 30's.
Any info on this one?
Ad says 1931 but IPDB says 1936. Regardless, it's a Rockola "Big Bank Nite"

Quoted from way2wyrd:I've seen like 6 variations on this game. Never seen this one. It's probably 32 or 33 not 42
Ha-ha! Right. IPDB said '32, I corrected the listing here. Looks like a copy of Ballyhoo. I'm guessing that's why you've seen so many like it. But, hey, that listing is in your backyard, Jeff! Fort Worth!

Man, were those flipperless Exhibit backglasses ever gorgeous. Seems like they were mandated to use every color of the rainbow. Haha! Love it.
Odd thing about that ad, tho, is they've posted screen shots of the pictures (!??!) instead of the actual pictures themselves.

In other news, a 1946 Genco "Spellbound"

No images in the ad, but I'll spare you the trip to IPDB:
At first I thought this 1932 Seeburg "Gold Coast":

Also, while that ebay listing I posted a while back has ended, it has been relisted here:

Good luck meeting the reserve!
I'm guessing this ad:

1937 Chicago Coin "Dux":

Wows, a couple things...
1) I think these photos are better than those on IPDB (to that end, I attempted to contact the seller...let's hope they take the same stance as the "Big Bank Nite" seller)
2) This looks like it has a similar mechanic as that Chicago Coin "Mars" listed on eBay a little while back that had us all salivating. In the backglass there's a pair of ducks (dux...ha!) that rotate into view. Bumpers score when birds are in view and turn off when not visible. So cool and theme appropriate. Additionally, from this picture of the backglass it appears to also (like "Mars") have a multi-tiered backglass(!!!)

Unfortunately, it looks like the background artwork in the backbox is gone, though. Regardless, wows again.
Okay, I'm about to leave on a 4-day trip to go pick up a flipperless gem of my own. I'll report once I'm back, but all that to say...you might need to take care of this place in my absence.

1937 Bally "Skipper":
This one looks VERY very clean, plug-and-play, and sports dual projection units(!!!). *drools* Looks like it's had an alternate color scheme painted on it's cab at some point, which I actually quite like.
It's true. The light/blue/grey goes with the backglass and playfield a lot more harmoniously than the original brick red. But peep those individually hand painted dots on the cab. Ha-ha! Those...I could do without. Nit-pick, nit-pick...here it be:

Jimeney...I'm starting to think we might need to make form an UnscrupulousIPDB.org to house all these found images, cause it sure would take a lot of time to ask each of these sellers for permission to post. I just had to commend you publicly on your love of, and dedication to the flipperless pin world. These beauties are underappreciated and run the risk of being forgotten if it wasn't for the work of you and a handful of others.
Keep the faith Brothers!!
OH!! And go buy that Midget Racer!! Cool game...but aren't they all...

Ha-ha! I consider the fact that you posted anything here a personal victory. The fact your post contained some awfully nice words is icing on the cake. Thanks for post, Sean!

Quoted from Matesamo:I would 100% buy that Midget Racer if it wasn't half way across the country! Love everything about it!
That price isn't bad. Cool lookin' game, for sure! Looks like it might be missing a lockdown bar, part of the backbox frame, and the glass has some pretty sizable scrapes.
...but, you know, motivation and some elbow grease can fix all that. COME VISIT MICHIGAN! It's...lovely(?)...this time of year. Regardless, thanks for posting in the flipperless thread, Matesamo. Good seein' you around these parts.

Then I'll have two project pins stored in my workplace office.
Happy Thursday.
1940 Genco "Powerhosue"
Despite the ad stating:
"Hi i have a 1933 pinball machine in great condition. Let me know wha you have I'm open to trades"
IPDB lists it as a 1940 production machine and it's hard to tell from the worst pictures ever, but it might actually be in decent shape(?). That blurry picture of a picture on a cell phone showing some of the backglass doesn't look half bad! In fact, the glass looks like it has retained more color than the photos on IPDB, which show a lot of white.

And like an enigma, Sean "Finger Model" K reappears. Thanks for mentioning these points of interest, Sean! Very interesting about the compression bumper and spinning disk(?)...triangle(?).
Quick question on the compression bumper; is there a solenoid that draws it downward to sort of push out the springs...akin to a pop bumper? Or does it stay at rest and the ball just sort of careens off of its at-rest springiness?
Quoted from Tyamry:I posted the link to the "Mexico" that was on Craigslist in Seattle. Post # 246.
I knew that sounded familiar. *LOL* Thanks for keeping us honest around here, Tyamry. Honestly, I'm just starting to lose track, and getting occasionally lazy about double-checking.
Quoted from michiganpinball:Here is the BG and head art. Will put up the rest after I unload the body from the trailer.
Neat. Not a bad lookin' glass, especially for a conversion game. Usually I feel like those art packages are pretty sub par. Looking forward to seeing the playfield (and price ).
Quoted from Pecos:So, you ask, how do I find these pins?
From the Project Pin thread.
Currently, I just highlight the first part of the Craigslist URL and type in another city to jump around to different parts of the country.
If this URL is in the URL box: "h-ttps://dallas.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=pinball"
I highlight "h-ttps://dallas" with the mouse.
Then I type in a new city, like "Tucson" and press the enter button.
Tucson.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=pinball
I have been searching the Internet since 1995 so I have a bit of experience. I don't use search engines to find the pins I post here but if you are, here is an article that might help you weed out some of the noise:
https://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10-things/10-tips-for-smarter-more-efficient-internet-searching/
Nice! Thanks for droppin' the knowledge, Pecos! I'll have to try some of that on tomorrow's search because today's search did not come from ANY interweb listing!
*suspense!!!*
So I was having a conversation with the guy who keeps your games and mine playing like a bunch of champs, Steve Young of Pinball Resource fame. We got on the topic of flipperless games and he told me about a BEAUTIFUL game he has. I asked him if I could post it here and he obliged. Here we go:
1940 Gottlieb "Summer Time"
You know as well as I do where and how to contact Steve (and for those new to the scene, his contact info is at the bottom of this page: http://pbresource.com/ ). He's willing to part with this gem for $650, no shipping, gotta pick it up. He also mentioned that it looks even better in personWHICH HOW CAN IT LOOK AT ALL THAT GORGEOUS IN TACT MIRRORING!!! *dies!!!*
P.S. Steve wasn't shy with the resolution, so give these pics a good click if you want to inspect.
Sooo...I'm guessing this is a 1935 Bally "Majestic"
...because it's certainly not from the 40's or 50's (as the ad suggests) and there's no pictures on IPDB:
http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=4150
Gameplay looks crazy-difficult! ...like every scoring pocket is only accessible from the side, except for that 5000pt jampot that requires you to skate between those upper two holes. That's straight cray!
BTW, I just realized after staring at this thing for about 10 minutes straight that it is a nautical theme; playfield graphics show a big overhead shot of a ship, flanked by little metal ships for those 200 and 300 scoring pockets (perhaps life boats?). Also, does it really say S.O.L. near the drain (Sh!t Out of Luck!??! *LOL*), or is that a nautical term I'm not familiar with?
Regardless, enjoy your gander of another title not on the database:

For today, here's an oldie but goodie. Buried in this ad you'll find a:

So, Jeff posted about this pristine (understatement) 1935 Rockola "Army/Navy" a while back. Looks like it's still for sale for a mere $21k:

In the body of the email, show the URL of where the pictures appear. Do NOT email us their pictures or submit their pictures via our interface. The URL will be enough. We also ask that you put the name of the game in the email Subject line along with the name of the hosting website, (ebay, Craigslist, etc.). We do not open every email the instant it comes in so if I see in the Subject line the word ebay or Craigslist, I will know there is a timed deadline and I will jump on that email right away.

Wow! ...do you know what it is? (Year, manufacturer, title?)
Quoted from astyy:Are you guys interested in this type of thing
I know this is a collective group and I won't pretend to speak for the whole, but in my feelings "Flipperless" pinball games do not include pitch 'n' bats. I enjoy the pitch 'n' bats (and perhaps they deserve their own for sale thread?), but in my opinion they probably don't quite fit into the focus of this thread. But thanks for thinking of us, Astyy!
Quoted from jmsvero:Also this is a "Prewar" forum as well.
I haven't adhered to this when looking for games for sale, as there are PLENTY of flipperless games created after 1945, in fact a number of flipperless games have even been created after the (conventionally accepted) invention of flippers on "Humpty Dumpty" in late '47. Surprising to some, there are production, coin-op, flipperless games made in the 50's, 60's, 70's and beyond. ...and if I found any of those for sale, I'd certainly post them here. Ha-ha!
...and more:
http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?specialty=15&sortby=name&searchtype=advanced
I guess *PERSONALLY* I'm more focused on non-bingo flipperless games here (only because bingos have their own thread...and feel like a completely unique offering, TO ME). So I'm not sure about the rest of the two people who check this thread, but I know that I'm not wed to the "Pre-WWII" portion of the "EM AND pre-wwii" subforum title.

A couple/few days ago, there were a whole SLEW of flipperless games that were listed on ebay from a seller named indianapickers1958. (Probably close to a dozen.) I thought to myself, "Great! Now I can populate the flipperless thread for another couple weeks," as I've found it challenging to uncover NEW posts recently. Then, just as quickly as they all appeared, they were all pulled. I'm not sure if someone purchased the entire lot or what happen. I didn't attempt to contact the seller.
Anyhow, most of the listings I find these days I've posted here previously, or I'd be chastised for listing them. (Frankly, I'd agree, the non-coin-op toy versions aren't as exciting. But as I've mentioned, I've been struggling to find newly listed bona fide flipperless coin-op items.)
With all that said, I still have those pulled ads up in tabs on my browser. Due to the difficulty of finding new ads, the next several I post will be de-listed ads from the seller mentioned above. Still some eye-candy for those among us who appreciate this fine hobby's history, but unfortunately probably not available for purchase. ...but you're welcome to contact the seller (and perhaps report back to us here). 1941 Genco "Gun Club" and he's askin' $500 for it.
He can be contacted via the pinsider listing above. He's located in Battle Creek, MI, he's a good no-nonsense dude, and you should deal with him with confidence. Here are a poop-ton of pictures John forwarded to me personally, knowing I'd be interested. Honestly, I'm real tempted but just don't have the room. That backglass with the backlit shooting gallery ducks looks amazing (aside from the minor flake John points out), as does the gorgeous playfield (obviously the bumpers could use some work). Also...
I sincerely dig that red carpet in your gameroom. Nice touch.
Quoted from DennisDodel:I have one of these.
Hey Dennis,
Just a quick follow-up question:
What in the world are these? I was looking at them from every angle in an attempt to better understand them. Are they, like, a little ramp of raised wood? What's their purpose? They're positioned directly behind one of those pigeon hole columns, so it's not as if you could launch a ball off them like a ramp. Are they just glorified diverters? They seem a bit short for that.
Looking forward to your thoughts on these and how they influence gameplay.
Best,
Ryan
Quoted from DennisDodel:Unfortunately, my carpet had to be pulled up a few years ago after the basement sewer backed up. Just bare concrete now.
OHmygodthatsux!!! I'm so sorry to hear about that. We have a basement remodel in our future and after seeing that red carpet, I'm seriously contemplating a Dodel homage. If it comes to fruition, I'll send you some pix.
Quoted from DennisDodel:The two "ramps" appear to be aftermarket pieces. Either added by an operator or a later owner. The guy I bought it from said that he did not add them. They are crudely cut and of a different type of wood than the rest of the game.
Being rounded at the ends, they very slightly divert a ball running next to them off to the left or right making it just a little easier to direct the ball into one of the bell scoring areas. Probably not an operator add on for that reason!

Hey Flipperless Fans,
I've been neck deep in event planning for the MSU Comics Forum ( comicsforum.msu.edu ), so not much time to post these days. Figured I'd say something instead of just dropping off the face of the Earth.
Best,
Ryan
Quoted from AlexF:There was a 1933 Genco 42nd Street on Milwaukee Craigslist yesterday for $60. Looked nice. I was so excited but you just know a deal like that rarely works out.
Searched and didn't find it. Must be gone.
Okay, wow. Just looked up that title on IPDB. How interesting...
That's a ton of diverters. Very neat! ...and also, that's a really early example of the around-the-playfield launch as seen on 2003's Nascar:
...but I thought the origin of that layout was 1948 Williams "Speedy Way":
I didn't realize it had FLIPPERLESS origins...and in the early 30's, no less! Way cool.

Color me impressed. Nice work, Sean!
Quoted from Stoomer:The coolest thing about this era games is the schematic is built right into the circuit board - check out my pic of the interior of Bonanza: http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=346&picno=53925
Holy hell. I guess you never have to worry about losing the schematic. Wow. Now, the top right of that looks like it's a piece of black paper, but is the rest of that backbox board SCREENPRINTED?
That would be amazing...

"Circa 1948 Genco "Four Roses" pinball machine
Complete and last used 10 years ago.
Playfield is clean, no serious signs of wear.
Backlight is clean little separation
Coin receiver works
All playfield bumpers work(ed) last time out.
Needs playfield glass and front wood rail that holds glass in."
They're asking $1200. No pix in the ad. This one's from IPDB:
Quoted from Stoomer:Hey ryanclaytor....I was under the impression that only Metro used those "liberty bell" style bumpers...then came along Four Roses!! So I went and looked...turns out they used those on 5 games in a row, with this Four Roses being the last.
So maybe finding bumpers for the Metro will be a little easier

Quoted from Flukebat:Hey everybody, I'm new here...
Welcome, Flukebat!
Quoted from Flukebat:I picked up a 1947 United's Hawaii flipperless machine on eBay last week...
Congrats! Looks like a neat game! Always nice to see another flipperless game in some caring hands.
Quoted from Flukebat:I was thinking about replacing the bulbs with LEDs to use less power and expose the inserts and backglass paint to less heat.
Here's another opinion for you. I would suggest not for a couple reasons:
1) LED's were not around when this game was made and would look quite out of place. As BingoPodcast mentioned...
Quoted from bingopodcast:The color/warmth of light is not the same, and you can get bulbs that require less power to light and therefore produce less heat.
2) PERSONALLY...I wouldn't worry much about the heat because you're not going to be leaving it on day-in day-out for 8 hours a day in an arcade waiting for someone to stuff a nickel in it. Now that it is in your care, it will be powered on far less frequently in the privacy of your home. For the scant minutes or hours you turn it on, it's not going to start warping plastics or burning the house down.
...again, just another opinion for you.

This is an interesting one. It seems to have a different backglass (with a game title) as well as some construction differences (no hole in the top of the playfield to access the balls) from the 1947 Williams "Pokerino" on IPDB. Here's the one from the ad:

Congrats on the pick-up! So great to see all these pix, too, especially with such little documentation on IPDB.
PLEEEEEASE send pix to Jay at IPDB.
Quoted from I_P_D_B:BTW, this is a good time to let everyone reading this know that, if you ever see games on ebay or leboncoin or Craigslist or any other site that has a timed deadline, and you think the IPDB could benefit from having those pictures, please consider emailing us direct about it.
I look forward to hearing from you, Ryan.

Quoted from ZNET:I located the "before" and "after" photos of these two restoration projects, posted here.
As the photos reveal, the Spot Bowler was in need of a lot of love. Jack sent photos in advance so I knew the extent of my undertaking. I found Jack to be delightful. I much enjoy sharing pinball stories with longtime enthusiasts, like Jack. I know that Jack had hoped to sell his remaining games in large lots. Alas, piecemeal sales are more likely and he has probably acknowledged that reality by now.
The only game which consumed more of my restoration time than this Spot Bowler was my EM Whoa Nellie (Continental Cafe conversion). Who can resist a Spot Bowler, even a half-dead one? Apparently, not me.
Can you please move closer to Michigan so that I can visit your collection?
Great work, as usual, Bruce.

I heard back from Jay at IPDB already. Despite STILL being in the throws of correcting the site mishap of this past week, he's still returning my email. Good guy. Quoted from DCRand:Hi, I am owner, guessing that it is either model 1 or 2 as it appears there were two models of this game, and they may have had different cabs. Jay at ipbd is trying to sort it out. Bought this with Chicago Coin Swing in a package deal and can only keep one. Seller commented someone had talked about a coffee table conversion for it and didn’t want it to have that fate. So really hoping to find a home with someone who will restore it. I just don’t have room.
Thank you for offering a very fair deal to someone who will keep it as it's intended use, A PINBALL TABLE, not a coffee table.
Finally, welcome to the thread. It's a beautiful game. I hope you can find an interested buyer with the right skill-set to bring it back to life. You're in a good place for such a search.
Quoted from DCRand:Ryan,
Good eye. Just found the label in pic below inside side cabinet door. So I have a Beauty of a Triumph. What the heck do I do with this machine? I really can't keep it and would be a shame to part it out or have it junked. Any ideas?
There are some Facebook groups you could post to. If you want some help with that, please let me know. I'd be happy to help post on your behalf if you're not on Facebook. Perhaps that would get it in front of some more non-coffee table enthusiasts eyes.
It really is a beauty!

Anyhow, how about another ad. Just found this:
1937 Genco "Silver Flash" for $525 near Cleveland, OH
Not sure if it's functional but it looks awfully nice.
(UPDATE: Just heard back from the seller, "it is all original, and will need a tune up to work fully. cleaning of contacts, lube. clean moving parts, power supply is not working but ran it 25 years ago with battery charger and worked fine.sold as is." Hope this helps someone here. I'm maxed-out on space (I know I know, you've heard that before), but I won't be going after this one. Good luck!):

Just inquired about this ad in Seattle:
...and received this from the seller:
"Yes, the pinball is 1930's machine called "Lightning" made by Exhibit Supply, Chicago. It has no flippers or back board, kind of flat. It uses old original marbles instead of steel balls and when it drops into the Lightning hole, a solenoid kicks the ball out and you score more points, etc. Yopu may be able to google it and see what it looks like, it is in excellent condition. I'm thinking maybe $300 on it."

Def less features than Five-Star Final, which it's based off of.
less metal cups, less pins used, seems like cheaper wood, etc
The video mentions there were various knockoffs, and IPDB even has this as "Unknown manufacturer"
Nice work, Cait!
VintageVideoGames.com in McLean, IL is purging a bunch of project pins listed here:
https://www.vintagevideogames.com/project-pinball-sale
...and I spotted a couple of flipperless games in the bunch:
-------------------
Yacht Club - $800 - 1940 Chicago Coin - 1,506 produced - A Pre-flipper pinball game with great artwork and in great condition.
What makes this one a project: Just needs a little tweaking. There isn't a lot to these early pre-flipper games. Just needs set up and checked to see if it's all working, and if not, some tweaking done.
This game is in excellent condition...especially considering it is 78 years old. cabinet, playfield, even backglass are in great shape. Still has original legs and original painted coin door.
Pictures: https://photos.app.goo.gl/vuhV5k9fpMUWd9L77
-------------------
Hawaii - $500 - 1947 United - unknown production - This is a beautiful pre-flipper machine.
What makes this one a project: I've never set it up and plugged it in. Looks to be pretty much complete and in good shape. It might be fully working - don't know. Bought it about 10 years ago from a guy with a ton of machines who had no idea whether it worked or not, and I never even set it up. Either way, shouldn't be too hard to get fully working -these early games are pretty simple mechanically.
Also, this game is physically in remarkably good condition for its age. The backglass looks nice, minimal flaking overall. The playfield looks gorgeous, very little wear. The cabinet even is in pretty nice condition, including the original coin door which is fairly uncommon.
Another one that needs saving, this time from Mr. Pinball:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Show Girl, 1946 Williams
Barn find. Backglass is pretty nice. Playfield looks pretty good. Head looks good and solid. Rest of game OK condition. For parts or restoration.

Ballyround, 1932 Bally: 650.00
Nice condition rare "Ballyround" round pinball machine. Bally tried, but the design didn't catch on. Playfield is an 8, all notice stickers are there. Ball lift mechanism works. Missing a small trim piece on the bottom.

Spellbound, 1946 Chicago Coin: 299
Pre-flipper game with flippers. Includes coin door (hard to find on these older machines). Backglass is rough but playfield is in great shape. Machine's parts are all there, just taken off machine. Great project to restore, or utilize it for all the parts. Needs a nice restoration. Have fun with this one. Alfred Hitchcock fans should appreciate this one. Prefer local pick-up but would assist w/ shipping. Best offers welcome or would trade.

Title: 1937 Pamco "Hi-De-Ho"
Price: $750
Description: I have a Pacific Amusement Company Pinball Machine. It's a PAMCO Hi De Ho Pinball Machine. It is complete & in good condition. Unrestored but well cared for. I am unsure of the year but I believe it is between 1931 & 1937. I am looking to sell it. I have been told that the legs may not be original but everything else appears to be original.
- --- ----- --- -
I chat with the seller today via Facebook and he seems awfully cool. He agreed to take additional pictures and send them to Jay at IPDB. I asked if I could post his email here and he said that would be fine:
MosquitoRanch1 ~at~ aol ~dot~ com
He had a great story about finding the game and said that he would listen to offers! He's also open to trades for "newer" machines, as he was looking for something from 1970's or 1980's when this machine came his way, and is willing to add cash for the right deal.
C'mon! Someone in the south go save this gem, restore it to working order, and report back here to make the rest of us jealous!

In Mississippi, about an hour from NOLA.
Quoted from cait001:is... is it just me or is this the most boring pre-war game? Only 3 things to shoot for... Am I missing something?
Judging by the point values, that left most shot must be near impossible. It looks like the game is essentially a skill shot. I can understand the suspense and satisfaction of achieving a really challenging skill shot, but I can't fully grasp why that left shot would be 10x as difficult as the right most shot, but perhaps we're both missing something.
