1947 P&S Tom Tom. This one has been on my short list forever but I won't be able to get up there to get it. At least for awhile. I'd like to see it get saved though as it's such a rare and cool game. More arcade than pinball but it is flipperless and has a plunger.

    Alex!

I've never even heard of this title before. I can't even figure out what in the world it is! ...besides more of everything I want:

    image-1 (resized).jpgimage-1 (resized).jpg

It's in your home state, Alex. With this being so high on your wishlist (and who knows when/if you're ever gonna see one again), I really hope you nab it. Please, at least contact the seller if you've not already. Maybe he'd be willing to hang onto it for a bit if you paypal him a deposit to let him know you're serious. It's worked for me before.

Tom Taylor has one and I've played it a few times and really loved it. It's sort of like a mini-skee ball with a rotating barrel. I'm not sure how long the gameplay would hold up but it sure isn't lacking in charm.

Ugh peer pressure. I've been mulling it over. Half thinking I need to make a move and half hoping somebody else grabs it. I like to let destiny play a role sometimes. If it's still lingering for some crazy reason in another week it may be meant for me. It can't be a priority for me before then so that's how it's going to be anyway. If someone else gets it, it's ok. As long as they don't make furniture out of it. I've had some previous grails come and go and the world is still turning. It does need some work but looks to be mostly there and worth the trouble I think.

Hey Ryan you've never been afraid of a road trip.

Remember this 1935 Mills "Ten Grand" from back on post #251?

    Quoted from RyanClaytor:

What an odd machine with that giant coin-holder (payout unit?) right in front of the player. In a change of pace, the pictures in this ad are the exact images listed on IPDB. o_O

Well, I barely did. Anyhow, looks like it's STILL for sale, 4 months later:

ebay.com link: Gaming Pinball Machine Ten Grand 1935 Mills Novelty Company

And just for posterity sake, it's got a starting bid of $1299 and located in Wooster, Ohio.

    #563 5 years ago

In the past year, I've seen 2 or 3 examples, including the one in post #560 above, of Bally's The Pennant. In the 30 previous years, I remember only a dozen or so, even though the game was mass produced. I sold mine (pictured here) years ago. It's a simple game. . .really nothing unique. Nevertheless, collectors seem to like the goal post diverter, the football theme and the playfield graphics.

Personally, I would rather dedicate that spot in my line-up to a more interesting prewar game. Rockola's Jigsaw was released the same year (1933) as Bally's The Pennant. There's no comparison in terms of ingenuity. The former is a Monet and the latter is finger-paint.

Just inquired about this ad in Seattle:

    seattle.craigslist.org link

...and received this from the seller:

"Yes, the pinball is 1930's machine called "Lightning" made by Exhibit Supply, Chicago. It has no flippers or back board, kind of flat. It uses old original marbles instead of steel balls and when it drops into the Lightning hole, a solenoid kicks the ball out and you score more points, etc. Yopu may be able to google it and see what it looks like, it is in excellent condition. I'm thinking maybe $300 on it."

I'm guessing it might be this:

    http://www.ipdb.org/showpic.pl?id=5608&picno=59392

    image-5 (resized).jpgimage-5 (resized).jpg

    #579 5 years ago

I have a lightning. It is a fun game. If you get a ball in the center 1000 hole, when a ball is dropped into the top "Lightning" hole, it kicks the 1000 ball into the 2000 slot. Second time you do that, the ball rolls around the 2000 slot into the 3000 slot. If you get the ball in the hole below the "Lightning" hole, it gives you back the out balls to play again. Well worth $300.

So it is! I guess I should have read some of those pesky words on the 1936 entry and I would have gained that knowledge outside of a public forum. Ha-ha! *sigh* Regardless, thanks for the education, Dennis!

Looks really cool. Not $4k cool, but cool nonetheless.

Interesting that the under-playfield has been rewired, but the transformer looks like it has no input, and wiring is suspect beside it.

Beautiful game - looks like someone didn't wind the bottom spring properly on reinstall. Good way to break the little welds on it.

Small amount of work and a beautiful game will be had by someone (hopefully not for $4k!!!)

I will say that I am extremely impressed by the game over indicator on the backflash. I want to know how this game functions. I'm in a bit of a horse race mode right now.

That appears to be the identical power supply that my '37 Arlington has. Pre war selenium rectifiers were toast, as I suspect is the case with this machine. It's a 12volt system. Easy and cheap enough to re power.

This one from five months back is still kickin' around:
