Star Trek Stern vs STTNG Williams - July 4th Showdown Post #19 in topic

Posted over 6 years ago by QuarterGrabber – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply over 4 years ago

I don't own either currently but i did own both in the past. I sold my STTNG to buy the new stern ST. I instantly regreted it. STTNG is a much better game with all the modes feeling drastically different and the two cannons kick butt! Stern ST still feels like chopping wood to me still, although it is much faster playing then STTNG. i have to vote STTNG by a mile on this one. I am a STTNG fanboy though.

I thought the new Star Trek code was great? No it's absolutely terrible! I didn't read it was going to be a location game. ST seems to be good on location but I wouldn't own it in a home atmosphere do to the wood choppy repetitive code. People that own ST will try to pump it up saying it's the best ever but best to try it on your own. But for location st does earn well because most people don't get too far into the code to see how boring it gets.

I want to put the game on location first and than into my collection. I looks like ST has a lot more to offer? Thoughts? Yeah but the code sucks. It's too early for GOT to make this comparison. GOT code could end up sucking too, then I would go with ST because it looks like it shoots better. But if GOTs code ends up being really good, I would definently go GOT. I haven't played GOT yet but it looks like it's current code is already better then ST repetitive code.

Based on what I've seen/read, there are 7 main house modes. Completing 4 gets you to the first wizard mode and completing all 7 gets you to the final wizard mode. For those who have played the game, did these modes feel repetitive? Was it too easy to reach the wizard modes? Obviously the code is new and will continue to change. From what I've seen in the videos, this isn't another Stern ST. It looks like all the modes have their own individual flavour and are not all the same.

Something I've noticed is that when someone makes a comment that TWD is shit or a dud I click on their collection and 90% of the time they own stern ST  likely a lot of other people don't like it either but this ST group seems to be the most publically vocal about it for some reason. IM and ST are a fantastic 1-2 punch in ANY lineup. They would probably be the last to go from mine (tough call between ST and STTNG) Deciding between STTNG and stern ST wouldn't be very hard for me, STTNG is MUCH better. I sold my really nice STTNG to buy a stern ST and regretted it almost instantly. I wish I could get a really nice STTNG again, that game is SOOO good!

I haven't bought a NIB stern in a long time I was just looking for some feed back as I am really struggling with this one. Sorry to piss you off with my poll. I'm not pissed at you or the poll. I really just think it is an unfair poll at this point. People made these same kind of poll comparisons when ST first came out and if you look back, I thought those polls were unfair as well. Good luck with your first NIB, nothing like that feeling.

These polls are always so stupid. Why not compare games that all have finished code? If the op is truly interested in one of these games wait until the code for all three are done then compare. I mean it took over two years for ST to get complete code, then you compare it to a game that's been out 6 months? So stupid. Drained.

ST_GettingUpdates.png (Click image to enlarge) I'm getting quite sick of ST owners still whining about the code. They spent three damn years on it. They need to spend their time on games that actually need significant code updates, not minor tweaks. They might as well do some minor tweaks in Xmen too while they are at it. Seems ST owners will never be happy. Stern spend the time on majorly unfinished code, not code that may need minor tweaks. Flame on.

TWD Code Update - Lyman not working on it.... Post #67 in topic

Posted over 9 years ago by QuarterGrabber – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply over 9 years ago

StarTrek took over a year to get the final code update, if you go by that then TWD is still 6 months away. I like the game very much right now just make Horde kick ass and the wizard mode that would be enough. Yeah but as far as I can remember there was at least three other updates for ST before the "final code" came out, and they are still whining for another one. Hopefully TWD will get a few more too.

you were like us when you had one. i'm not saying TWD is not a good machine but for the price ST pro Vs TWD pro is the winner here. game play is pretty damn close to the STLE. Lol, very true. I loved my ST pro. It just got sooo repetitive so fast. It is still a good game and maybe if they update the code I will pick up another one. But I find personally I like the difficult sharp shooter games like TWD, Xmen, ect... ST shots are too easy and buttery for me personally.

I love all the ramps and shooting for combos. Because you only played ST a few times. Try owning it. I loved it at first too, then it got really old ... really fast. To each their own though. I think it is funny as a lot of Pro owners state well I will just mod my machine to get close to the LE version and save myself $1000 - $2000. I tried that with ST pro, it didn't work. By the end of the modding I spent as much as the LE would have been, should have just bought the LE.

Is TWD LE really worth the $3000 price increase over the Pro? Post #41 in topic

Posted over 9 years ago by QuarterGrabber – in Buying and selling advice ‐ Last reply over 9 years ago

Agreed, but the full color-changing LEDs make up a lot regarding the visual experience. Not that it justifies the price difference, but there is more missing than just the VUK. I wouldn't down-grade to the Pro if I had the chance. I was only stating Gameplay differences for STLE, the visual is irrelevant to me. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind ST, I just think it is the best example for very little if any difference between pro and LE models gameplay wise. Pro is the machine to buy on that title IMO.

Stern The Walking Dead. Seems like a Hit Post #38 in topic

Posted over 9 years ago by QuarterGrabber – in All Pinball ‐ Last reply over 9 years ago

Well, it does have the Vengeance that actually crashes, as well as the kickback. I don't know if those would necessarily be considered "toys", but they are nice physical upgrades. They are not "toys" at all. Have you seen the crash? Lame. I think the violent shaking in the pro is much better and the pro has a virtual kickback so I would hardly count that at all either. Pro is the way to go on ST.

Definintly don't get the premium if you do end up picking up the ST. Not much if any different from the pro and doesn't justify the extra cost IMO.
